Supercharged LS Patrol EP4 - Diesel to Petrol Swap + Holden Radiator instal!

Swapping out the TD42 and Installing a Harrop Supercharged 6.0L LS into a GU Nissan Patrol is a good idea right?
We're slowly ticking of the jobs and getting the FFM Fabrication HQ Hauler closer to completion, WIth some CNC routed custom brackets to suit a VF commodore Radiator, Harrop heat exchanger and PWR trans cooler as well as a Raceworks Fuel system using -6 A/N lines and a GFB Fuel pressure mounted in a Bosch regulator mount!

Plumb in both fuel pumps and wire 1 to a Hobbs switch for boost reference. The pumps have check valve in them. If the main pump goes out it’s still just a wire swap. The static pump can go bad sitting in fuel if not cycled occasionally. Hi from TX!

the diesel sub has a dummy pump but the petrol has a proper intank pump that is powerful enough to run the engine when a dual fuel setup deletes the main tank for lpg. used a diesel main and petrol sender when I DE-BBQ'd my 4.5 Patrol

Ok so on the subject of the Aux fuel tank. The AUX tank has a low pressure pump in it that pups the fuel from the AUX tank into the main tank, usually there is a line that connects to the filler neck.

The GU Is a factory TD42 and has an external pump, there was a fuel pump looking plastic hosing in the sub tank but didn’t have a pump fitted hence why I asked the question. Maybe TB48 models had a low pressure pump fitted in the tank?

Sorry I meant the pumps attacked to the tank. These pumps are known to fail, probably why it was removed. I would use a low pressure high volume pump in its place as the stock Nissan one is dreadfully slow transferring fuel to the main tank. I had a GU and on the freewsy towing when I had to transfer the fuel over I was chewing the fuel just as fast as it was transferring.

Woody, you NEED to run it through the radiator. I had mine (hilux) set up with cooler only and it kept overheating on steep hills and backing up the van as there was no active cooling (radiator with fan). If you weren't doing 100 down the freeway there was nothing cooling the cooler.

Auto Trans fluid through the radiator is a dividing discussion. For as many people that say its no good, there an equal amount that says it's a must. Personally i cant see any reason why you wouldn't and all my cars are set up this way. The engine coolant temp in the bottom tank is usually 10-15 degC lower than the top tank. With an engine running at around 85-90 degC you should see around 80 degC in the bottom tank. Transmission fluid just like any lubricating fluid has an optional operating temperature at around 90 degC and running below that range is just as harmful to the mechanical components inside the transmission as it is running above it. Using the engine coolant to preheat the transmission fluid to get the transmission to operating temperature is advantageous. Obviously this is in series with an appropriate sized external cooler so its perfect at holding the auto trans fluid at an optimal operating temperature.

Those sub tanks. Petrol one's that plastic thing is the transfer pump, on diesels it's a plastic case with a solid piece of steel in it. F#@k knows why. Curiosity got the best of me and I cut one open.

I would keep the spare fuel pump on the truck but not in the tank as it takes up fuel space... having redundancy with a second pump in the main tank would be good, but you could just keep a spare one of those pumps as well in your spare kit... just replace if broken.. using same pumps in surge tank & main tank would reduce how many spare pumps you might need. Same thing with the axles... etc..

The old trol rad wouldnt of lasted for very long, I had a very similar style shroud on my Aussie desert cooler and had constant overheating dramas with my blown 383.... Why on earth you would want to essentially block off half the rads cooling area is beyond me-they need flow to work, remember the K.I.S.S theory?
