The piece you cut out, you could reverse then weld it back in place, then just cap the open ends, maybe make the cut piece longer though for the movement of the shock as the arm moves up and down.

It’s very thin metal .would it be weldable or would it just distort ?

As others have said, shock other way up. But, also, if you're doing you cutting method, you need to cut extra either side as there's a reason the shock is on pivot style mounts - as the suspension goes up and down, the angle of the shock changes...

If you are willing to experiment with another guard. Watch a couple videos on ‘paint less dent repair’ and I think you could reshape that thin metal to clear the shock and have no hole.

Thanks for the shoutout! Just a thought couldn’t you have asked Brooks if it mattered mounting the shocks upside down? As the tops are longer and narrower, or heated the guard up and hammered/manipulated it to allow clearance? Get some Sugru (mouldable rubber) it comes in small packets and different colours and you could make a rubber bung . Thanks again and a great video..
@Mrfish20154 жыл бұрын
I wanted the adjustment at the top away from the road crap , I thought about heating and bending but that section would be a pain so off it came (if it was symmetrical I would have probably cut and reverse hammered

Props for getting it done! Now, something to consider: Get a machinist buddy to make a thicker Al. spacer for the bottom of the spring to move that end up to clear the chain guard. You have room to move the spring. No cutting needed. Part B. If you place the tape at the same angle as the shock then it will look like a painted accent. No trimming needed! Question; are you going to upgrade the springs in the front forks now? :^)

Hi Mr Fish, it’s been a good while since you upgraded/modified the rear springs on your Supercub. I’m over 18 stone and over the recommended weight for the cub and I find that the rear springs do struggle on bumpy roads, with the ride becoming very uncomfortable. So, do you still consider it was worthwhile installing the stronger rear dampers? Also, can you recall what they cost? I ‘m in Somerset, U.K. Thanks, and keep up the good work on your entertaining channel.
