Superfish home series Pro's VS Con's + filter box needs to go

These are the pro's & con's of the superfish home aquariums in my opinion. I had to take the filter box out as well, one of my fish got stuck behinde it.

So glad I came across this video......I've been trying to remove the filter housing in my "Home 30" setup. It frustrates the hell out of me trying to remove the Eheim 45 I have in there. Love the tank though, although I wish there was a memory function for the light intensity.

Great looking fish tank and I really do miss having my fish friends. My last tank was a massive 6 x 2 x 3, took me ages when I had to do a clean on it. Had some super fish but when my kids where little they would always run up to it and bang the glass which always worried me that it would break and completely trash my downstairs rooms as it was a lot of water held in the tank. I gave it up in the end to keep the peace for the fish

You can take the sides off by using a thin flat screwdriver under the three tabs at the bottom and lift out carefully. I did my 45 litre due to water splash in between like yours.

Love this setup, those rocks are awesome. I'm looking for new ornaments for my new aquarium that I'm getting in February. I'll be uploading a video when I get it. Your aquarium looks better without the large pump, it makes more room. That's what I did with mine ... way more room. Absolutely love your aquarium 🙏 👍

It looks like some of your plants got some more red color in them now 👌That sponge filter you got looks really good too. I've never seen one that has the bio media in it before

Yeah the plants are thriving, I'm starting to propagate them... and fit the sponge filter you can do with or without the containers to hold extra bio media. Its great if you ask me. Take care bro

Great review. I also had Ottos get stuck behind the filter box in my Home 80 - one died as a result, so also cut off with an old fashoned razor blade. Actually makes the acquarium look much bigger with the filter simply stuck on the back glass. On the 80, the light assembly on the top is fixed at both ends, and just tilts backwards, rather than lifting up to the side. That's a pain when it comes to maintenance as it gets in the way when vacuuming gravel etc.

So I got a 100 one a while a go and what if I told you you can remove the light... Just open it up and gently push it to one side to not break the pins and up you go. You are welcome, took me a while to figure it out to 😅. Makes life way easier when cleaning out the tank. Got me a small nano tank light that you screw on the back to still have some light while cleaning. Works like a charm

@@vertigoone-one-722 made a Rookie mistake…. I didn’t clean my gavel enough :/ glad I only part filled the tank…. Gonna let it settle then guess the gravel filter to hopefully remove the dust. Unless you have a better idea?

@@carlhornyak8541 oh and set everything up, let it run for a week and the add the beneficial bacteria. If you drop them in straight away with tab water they will die from the clorine, I made that mistake took me a while to get the cycle going

Great video - thank you. I've just bought the Superfish 80 and I'm planning on ripping the filter/heater holder off. Looks like it won't suck much through that plastic case. Do I just use a Stanley blade to cut the glue? Also, did you buy a led timer/controller for it? Been looking for a compatible one for the Superfish Tanks, no luck as of yet.

Thx for watching. Yes a Stanley is fine, do it before you get everything set up and take your time. I just used a plane timer, the one you can use for anything. Had no problem up to now

What's the width in cm of the cable compartement? Would it be wide enough to get a 12-16mm tube through? I have the idea to buy the same 'Home 40', take the filter box out too and replace the filter with my external one. So it would be nice if both inlet and outlet can pass throught the cable compartment.

It is 12mm deep but there are a lot off plastic lines sticking out that you will have file down. Not sure if it is the best option... I think that you would be better to black out the back side off the glass and pass the tubes behind the aquarium. There is only one side where there is cable management and it is in the line with the light. Just Passing as mutch info as possible. If you have any other questions feel free buddy

The tank should be visible on 'all' sides: it stands on the kitchen counter island and we can walk around it so the background is no option.

@@ackbardomination1807 if you use a glue like superglue but the thick form, not to liquid. Just let it dry verry well and use coton in between the rocks with more space then aply glue... there are a bunsh of vids out there on the toppic, I binchwatched a lot before getting started 😋😊

Makkelijk zal het niet zijn, ik zou hem een dag geven om er zelf uit te geraken indien niet stel ik voor van met een ijzerdraad dat in rubber is bedekt te gebruiken. Zorg er wel voor dat dat je de ijzerdraad dubbel plooit zodat je hem niet kan prikken. Met wat geluk kan je hem er van tussen schrikken. Ik stel ook voor van nadien de aquarium zo leeg mogelijk te maken en met silicone de ingang dicht te spuiten zodat dit niet meer kan gebeuren. Laat zeker weten hoe het is gegaan

It is possible. But I would go for a cheaper smaller version if it is for just one pregnant fish. Go for a tank that has no fix filter house and put a sponge filter in it

Heb de home 80 nu 2 jaar ben al door 1x nieuwe lichtbak en 3x 12v 2A adaptors gegaan. Wat voor type filter gebruik je?

Ik heb nu de 110, de 60 is op de zolder beland. Mijn 110 draait nu op de filter dat ik bij de 60 heb "gekregen" in het pak. Als ik me niet vergis is het 200l/U op de hardste stand, mijne draait op minimum daar er een axelotl inzit. Heb er ook nog een spons filter op zitten maar die is aan vervanging toe... Heb ze beide nu een jaar laten draaien en heb nooit wat moeten vervangen.

Is the filter good enough to keep in if it only has 1 betta in it and plants 👍

Might be a bit overpowered for a beta, they prefer calm waters. But if it is to keep just one beta in it go for a sponge filter or a under gravel filter instead. With the last one you can even add a few guppies but try to stick to male ones so that they don't reproduce and overcrowd the tank

It was easy, take your time, get the water as low as possible and you will be fine! It isn't a race... The calmer you are the easiest it will be. I broke a Stanley knife while cutting and got stressed out because I was filming it all. If it happens ceep calm and be safe, don't cut yourself. The hardest part is getting the silicone from the glass, or what is left when you got the filter of.

Use a stanley knife or a rasor blade, it is the easiest way to scrape it of with the rasor in the hand and the water as low as possible

@@ps4ify330 yeah I had a hard time to... I did it in 3 times, every time I did a waterchange I scraped a bit more of. Its all in how you scrape the blade on the window, the angle needs to be perfect once you have the right angle it will be easyier. You can still see a small smutch in my tank that I do not seem to get out

Hey Owen Edge, first of all thanks for waching and subscribing! Now The best aproche is to lower the water in the tank as low as possible, then take a sharp boxcutter and wedg your way slowly from bottem to top. Wach out not to cut yourself please it might slip or the knife might break like mine did, be sure to have replacement knives. Take your time!

You get quite a bit of algea if you leave the light at the brigtest setting. And if you have a high nitrate level in the tap water like here in belgium it is a hard job to keep algea down. A undergravel filter by airlift might be the best sollution to create anaerobe bacteria... If that is what you mean 🤪 Never heard of the light giving green reflections so I gues it is what you mean
