Quinoa has been eaten since ancient times by Inkas civilization. I am Peruvian and and my mom taught me to soak quinoa overnight and rinse while rubbing them with both hands. That's the proper way how to wash it. Unfortunately, when quinoa is sold abroad the instructions dont mention to soak it. Native people in the highlands have the knowledge...this super food is amazing as long as it is soaked and washed properly.

Great video and enjoyed it. Fyi, for anyone having issues digesting food. Avoid mixing protein with fruit it won't digest completely. And mixing dairy into the mix is gonna make it even harder for your body to digest. Proteins are best eaten by themselves or with leafy vegetables. Fruit is also best digested by itself or eaten with leafy vegetables or more fruit as long as you don't mix acid or sub-acid fruit with sweet fruits. Peace & Love

I dug deeper with reading various sources and experts recommend wash/rinse and soaking it. I agree with rinsing and soaking properly now which I wasnt aware prior. To sum it up grains and legumes can be very hard to absorb and digest, especially modern day grains. They mentioned proper “traditional” way to prepare grains allows you to properly digest them. Unfortunately in the fast pace society that we live in, most individuals have eliminated this process all together. Many agree grains are not bad for you..only if they are not properly prepared. If grains are not traditionally prepared properly then grains should not be consumed. Bottom line, they say if you want to eat grains and/or legumes you must soak, ferment or sprout them before eating them. Why? Soaking is necessary. For ex, to properly soak raw nuts. Nuts have phytic acid. Phytic acid is also found in grains and legumes. Like nuts, soaking grains and legumes is essential for proper digestions. When eating grains and legumes that haven’t been soaked, the phytic acid binds to minerals in the gastrointestinal tract and can not be absorbed in the intestine and too many bound minerals can lead to mineral deficiencies. By soaking, you are breaking down the phytic acid so it can be absorbed correctly for proper digestion. I hope this helps and found various readings that explain deeper! Nonetheless, lets enjoy Quinoa!

I love this stuff. Especially when you make them into patties. After it's cooked, let stand for 10-15 minutes. Then beat an egg and add it to the quinoa. Mix well. Ball it up like you would a meatwad, then fry it in a pan. Each side for 2-3 minutes to get it nice and stuck then finish until golden brown. For vegans, you can use an egg substitute like bananas or avocado base. And use a preferred oil to fry. It tastes just like a filet fish patty for some delicious reason and goes well with tarar sauce.

Someone I respect, Dr. Joel Fuerman, now says that all cruciferous veggies should be eaten raw or else processed raw in a blender into a slurry before heating and adding to a meal … ok for soups but I give up. I know this advice is well intentioned but fuck it, I live in the real world, do my best and refuse to get obsessed with this stuff. @@ESAATRAVIESAA - The video suggested soaking quinoa for 2 hours or overnight. In addition, I was informed by a "natural foods" person that soaking and rinsing beans - including canned beans! - eliminates the flatulence associated with them, and found it to be the case. For quick and easy preparation, at the very least, the juice which is in the can should not be used, as that is where the majority of flatulence-producing substances will be found. Fishercat 73, no, all dried beans have phytic acid not saponins. Phytic acid is bad because it binds to important nutrients therefore robbing you of those nutrients. Luckily, phytic acid is water soluble. That is the reason beans (and raw nuts) are soaked in water overnight. After the soak discard the water and rinse one more time. Then cook as directed.

What are the cooking measurements after soaking since it expands? For 4 servings, how much quinoa should soak and how much water is needed to boil? THANK YOU!

My doctor has told me to rinse it very, very, well with hot water. Is this sufficient?

who is your doctor? Don't tell me, don't want to know, this video was so well intentioned and got so many people so confused.

Have been growing this now for about 20+ years along with other garden plants. It reseeds quite easily so I never have to replant just thin out to desired spacing. I have grown to love the tender greens of the leaves and young branches cooked like spinach. Actually I quite prefer it to all other "spinach" type greens for taste and the nutrients. There seems to be no online recipes for cooking the greens this way and I read that the saponins aggravate arthritis or may cause other undesired health effects. Do you know how to properly cook the greens and eliminate the saponins so it isn't a problem. I always boil the leaves in water and discard the water before I eat. I haven't had any noticeable problems from eating it this way but I do have arthritis and am concerned about doing things the right way.

I Rinse it over and over again then fry it a little in a little olive oil before I cook it like rice. I don’t taste any bitterness afterwards but it still keeps me ‘regular’.

Soak the bloody quinoa, or simply avoid it. Eating it the wrong way caused me to have severe neurological issues and I almost passed out behind the wheel. It took me a while to find out it was the quinoa.

After its cooked. Something that I always do with mine is toast it. It helps make it tender and adds more flavor and it always takes that bitterness away thanks for a great video

Quinoa and soy yogurt is one of my 2 year old's favorite breakfasts. I prefer keeping it warm and adding cacao and maple syrup. We also use it in replace of rice and orzo in many meals.

Why eat healthy quinoa or oats ( fibre rich liw GI) if u ll put in high GI maple syrup in it? You might aswell have pancakes or croissant then...

I didn't rinse mine enough today nor did I take time to soak it. Major gut pain after having a spoonful. Maybe I should soak and re-cook it (or just start over). Never used to bother me before, but now the saponins are an issue.

I had quinoa the past couple of days and feel bloated, like there’s a brick in my stomach. Ugh… I should probably do a celery juice cleanse tomorrow.

Thanks for the information. I tried it for the first time today but just rinsed it and then cooked it. I didn't soak overnight. I'll do so from now on.

Quick question: Is it okay to eat Quinoa everyday? I an adding quinoa to my diet because I just became a vegan. And they say quinoa makes your butt bigger. At first I was skeptical about that but now I am definitely seeing results in that department.
