I remember reading about the 427 Cobra when I was 15. They said some Hollywood celebrities were buying them but Carroll Shelby made them take some driving instruction before they took them. I never drove one, but they were on another level in terms of power to weight. Even today they are a monster. Great job, no matter replica, beautiful car.

Carrol Shelby built the very last "true" Cobra for himself. It had twin Paxton superchargers, a Mickey Thompson cross-ram intake and a C-6 auto transmission. Less well known was the 2nd last "true Cobra was an identical car for Bill Cosby. Cosby, at the time, had a Ferrari, but Shelby tried to convert him to an American car. At any rate, Cosby had a segment of his night club performance in which he talked about the Cobra, it was on a 33 1/3 record, or maybe by now its on a DVD. At any rate, even for a man with a Ferrari, it scared the living crap out of him, and he ended up returning it to Shelby. The car was then sold to a man in the U.K., who totaled it withing a week of taking delivery. The collector who ended up buying Shelby's personal Cobra at auction said that he sometimes drove it on the street, and he was actively afraid of the car. He eventually resold the car, again at auction. I saw the car in the auction tent before it went over the blocks, and with its 427 engine and two superchargers, it was a beautiful car, but it was easy to see why it would be a handful.

...the cobra is a bit scary to drive, my ERA 427 was over 500hp and in a curve you needed to be super careful, got loose on a couple on-ramps and it tested your nerves... always wear the belts and shoulder harnesses....

@@NicksGarage THANKS guys for this VERY INTERESTING presentation. 🙂 I've had a few cars with knock-offs. Believe me, white Teflon tape...aka; plumbers' tape on the hub threads will end the issue of seizing. Also, it doesn't alter the torque specs for these wheels. In my opinion, Permatex Anti-seize Compound will work just as well. I mean if it'll stop steel sparkplug threads from seizing to an aluminum cylinder-head, it'll work equally as well for this type of wheel with aluminum knock-offs. Best regards from Yucatan Mexico, Ben

I guy I knew professionally who bought a real aluminum bodied continuation Cobra about 15-20 years back. It had a stroker FE around 480 ci with an aluminum block and made around 585 HP. The car weighed around 2400 lbs if my memory is correct. Got to ride in it one time. To say it was brutal is an understatement. It would spin those huge road racing tires at anything more than about 1/2 throttle all the way into third gear. You definitely had to drive that thing with a lot of respect.

The sound of the engine was amazing. I looked down on the side of the car and there was the exhaust pipe outlet. I will never forget that day that I got to ride in one. For anybody that's interested, the Superformance Company has a website that lists all their dealers and models, including the Cobra coupes. The new cars come complete except for the engine and transmission; you can put in anything your heart desires. Speed costs money... how fast do you wanna go..? One got sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, AZ a couple years that had a stroker 427 Cammer that got fitted in. They also have some used Cobras for sale as well. I think their cars are fiberglass-bodied. There is a company in Utah that makes metal-bodied Cobras, I think copper, brass or aluminum. When you've got 500 (+) hp in a 2200 pound car, exciting things can happen quickly

I have a Factory 5 Mark III replica with an Edelbrock fuel injected 5 liter engine. It has plenty of power, and is a LOT of fun to drive. You do have to respect the power for its weight though. It has a tendency to want to get squirrelly if the pavement isn't exactly smooth and level. And being a home built car, I find that I'm having to fix or modify things on it frequently. Still, I LOVE driving it!

Beautiful car. I always wanted to see an original. I 'worked' on an original GT40. The owner wanted the oil sensor on the pan tightened. I asked him if I could jack the bumper a bit so I could get a second jack under the car. He let me sit in it. All I remember was a pop-riveted aluminum interior, a very uncomfortable seat, and a windsheild that banged my forehead if I moved wrong. Loved that era.

My fav Ford was a 70 Mach 1 Fastback that I helped a friend and his dad rebuild with a 351 high compression cleveland we assembled with a cam and some other performance parts after having it blueprinted. After a little bit of gentle break in, that car popped a wheelie (first time I ever saw this..) and proceeded to twist the driveshaft like a pretzel. We had to finish that build with a custom driveshaft, dana diff (can't recall the exact one) out of a truck, ladder bars and wider tires in the back but the rest was stock. Was a fun build when I was a very young man and a fun car!

I hope to keep that Ford. In addition I have a 99 E250 high top moto va; a 02 F250 with the 7.3 liter power stroke, a 2010 F350 with a broken 6.4 liter power stroke (POS); and three different Lincoln models. It was cheap, but my dad wouldn't allow me to buy it. $375 with an engine that needed overhauling. I later acquired the engine after the car was gone. The thrust was out of the crankshaft. I used the block for my 390 in my 76 F150. It was a fun truck.

Hi Mr. Nick, responding to the in-video question of which Ford is my favorite; '66 R Code Fairlane. Thank you and your brothers Mr. Nick for keeping old school muscle alive and thriving especially for sharing your knowledge I'm very thankful, you're an awesome person and I'm grateful for all your time. My Dad and my Grandfather worked for Ford all their lives. I love the big 3, but the R code is my fav beast of all cars and makes. Anything with a 426 Hemi and a 4 speed would be a close second. Take care Mr. Nick and thank you =)

Nick: If you want to take it for another drive - go ahead. Manny: No.... I'm good. Nick thinking to himself: You have got to be kidding me... You WILL be taking it for a linger drive.

64 Ford Galaxie 500 XL Convertable with any FE Big Block with the 427 at the top of the list and the 390 in a close second. I did like the Cruise-O-Matic in my 64.

@@NicksGarage Yes, it was White, I believe Ford called it Wimbilton White with a White Top and Red interior. Power Steering, Manual Brakes and factory AM/FM Radio. That and my 75 Scout II are the only Cars I still wish I still had. The convertible was wrecked with in an hour of my selling it. I was in the Navy at that time and told the wife to sell it and Fly out to California as I unable to come home and pick her and our son up. I had a new 74 Mustang II on order and no place to store the 64.

Manny seemed to shift the gears much more smoothly than Nick. Beautiful car. I would love to drive it one day.
