One of my faves from Superfruit and I didn’t know any of the songs/watch the show before seeing this. Top 5 for sure. Hip hop goes broadway 1 & 2 are a must. Don’t forget the bloopers. They’re hilarious.

You haven’t gotten into their EP “Future Friends’ with full production original songs, yet. I like “Deny U” “Guy.exe” and “How You Feeling?” best, but you can’t go wrong with any of them. Another great one of just the two of them at their mics like this one is their cover of “Happy Little Pill,” and then of course there is their cover of “Rise” they did with Brian Justin Crum, Mary Lambert, and Mario Jose after the tragic attack at the Pulse nightclub. It’s heart-stopping! Great reaction! I really love the “Empire Medley,” too. It’s among my favorites- such beautiful vocals.

If you don't know, Empire was a TV series that ran from 2015-2020 on Fox Broadcasting. It was about a black family-run New York based music / entertainment company, with lots of drama. And also a lot of good music; they had their own songwriters and producers on staff, some great singers in the cast and Timbaland as executive producer for the first two seasons.

FOX actually paid SuperFruit to do this medley. They used it to promote Season 2 as I recall.

This is all the songs from Empire Season 1's soundtrack album (and it's hard to know on the first listen, but they mash up all the songs at the end). Superfruit got a sponsorship from Fox Broadcasting to do this medley and they used it to promote the second season.

Great reaction to what has always been my favorite SF video. What they are doing is so complicated, and they move smoothly from song to song. The TV show Empire was about a family in the music business, and one of the family members was gay, resulting in a lot of competition and drama in the family. Every week there were new songs in the show, and Scott and Mitch covered some of the best of them. Superfruit put out a lot of great music, some covers and some originals. If you want more, check out Bad 4 Us, Guy.exe and Future Friends, all originals, plus they did their own versions of Beyonce and Rihanna medleys.

They don't have any credits on this, but Scott usually does the piano arrangement, which he evidently pre-records and they somehow sing along with it, even with all the tempo changes and pauses? Or maybe they do a demo with Scott playing the piano and sing along to that, then record the piano? IDK. I know sometimes they have a friend come in and play the piano part for them, but some of these studio videos list Scott as playing the piano. It blows my mind.

In their description of "Rise" they list Scott and Ben Bram as the arrangers, and then say "Thanks Ben for always playing piano for us." So obviously they have more than one possibility when it comes to accompaniment.

My two favorites are SuperFruit's Frozen Medley, featuring Kirstie Maldonado, and SuperFruit's cover of Katy Perry's "Rise." The Frozen Medley is hilarious, and I will say no more than that about it - no spoilers. "Rise" rates a bit of explanation. In the first place, it's serious, deadly serious. "Rise" was a response to the mass murder in 2016 at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida. SuperFruit got three friends who are also all singers and all members of the LGBTQ+ community and the five of them sang "Rise," both as a response to the haters and as encouragement for the community. The three guest singers were Brian Justin Crum, Mario Jose, and Mary Lambert. Sung by these singers, for this purpose, "Rise" is a powerful anthem of courage, hope, and empowerment.

I didn't listen to this for a long time because I had never watched the series and don't listen to much pop music, so I didn't know any of the songs. But when I listened to it a couple of times, I bought the Empire season1 soundtrack album and the original versions are just as good.
