If you’re brown skinned you will LOVE unseen sunscreen. I understand that it’s pricy and chemical sunscreen so not as great coverage wise but being a black woman leaving the house with a white purple cast is just NOT an option. Unseen sunscreen is a game changer.

You know you're a Dr Dray addict when you are looking for skincare products and ask yourself "What would Dr Dray think about this?" and then you don't buy it because it's too expensive and you know she would say that you don't actually need that.

Supergoop is the only sunscreen that doesn’t make me sweat even more than I already do. I live in Texas. It’s the only one that I actually enjoy putting on. It goes on like a primer. I will maybe try the cc cream. Think I will try the powder and the spray one to keep reapplying thru out the day. Hope this is good enough protection. I hate the white cast ones so much.

The reason why so many people love the unseen sunscreen is because it is listed as clean 🧼 ingredients, reef safe AND for us brown skinned people, we don’t get a white cast over our skin. It’s hard to find a good clean ingredient list sunscreen that doesn’t make you look like a ghost

I wish people would stop thinking that getting a tan makes everyone look healthy. As someone who had a nasty, nasty sunburn after a day on the lake at age 21, I am an advocate of loving the color that nature intended. 😊

I think it's more the colour they like, rather than the tanning process. I feel there's nothing wrong liking looking " more tanned /golden brown/brown" than our natural colour. Safest ways are organic tanning sprays I guess...

Tan is better than living in country that tells the people dark skin mean your poor where people are told to skin bleach their dark skin because fair skin means your rich. Your body needs some sun. Going overboard with sunscreen isn't healthy either. Getting tan isn't bad, but going overboard is.

Being white must be nice because you get to pick and choose... as someone with brown skin I’ve been made to feel my skin is inferior even though white people seem to want to have skin like mine. Weird world isn’t it...

JessieBanana which ones are your favs?😀😊
@JessieBanana
@JessieBanana 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, all the ones I use are fragrance free and the Japanese sunscreens that don't have zinc oxide are all super clear on me. My long time fave is the Nivea Super Water Gel SPF 50, it's only PA+++ (which is one less plus than the maximum Japanese rating for UVA), but it's the best texture you will ever encounter in a sunscreen. It's like a soft gel. The Hado Labo UV Perfect Gel SPF 50 PA++++, is great. It's been replaced and the new version of it is hard to get outside of Japan. It's also a bit more oily after application. Japanese sunscreens are constantly being repackaged and updated so don't be alarmed if one you like disappears. The Hada Labo UV White Gel SPF 50 PA++++ is probably my current fave in terms of protection and texture. The only downside is that this product comes in a tub, so I still like a having another sunscreen to reapply with. There are no whiteners in this product. Japan and Korea sometimes use white and bright interchangeably. Whitening can also denote SPF protection, in this case the white gel has a more stable form of vitamin c in it to increase sun protection. The Nivea also come in refill packages that are cheaper.

Would you consider reviewing the supergoop line again? They have reformulated all of their products to be reef safe by removing octinoxate and I think have made other smaller inactive ingredient changes as well. According to their website, they’ve reformulated the following products as of 12/27/19: Everyday Sunscreen, Unseen, Defense Refresh, Sunscreen Oil, Antioxidant Mist, 100% Mineral Mist and Hand Cream. I’m curious as to your thoughts on these new formulas!

Supergoop is one of those brands where I want to like them but I can't. Thanks Dr. Dray for confirming my suspicions. Their products usually don't work well for the price. The only products I've used that I would buy again is the Super Power Sunscreen Mousse (because it feels so nice to put on and reapply) and the Shimmershade eyeshadow (because there aren't a lot of eyeshadows with SPF on the market yet). The mineral primer feels oily and disgusting. The refresh make up setting spray usually winds up in my hair, which I hate. I would rather spend that kind of money on colorscience or Paula's Choice products.

I’ve used Supergoop before and didn’t know about their program! Very cool. My mom instilled sunscreen use at an early age. Skins cancer runs in my family. I never had a sunburn until I was 7. In high school, she gave me Eucerin’s daily moisturizer with SPF and I hated the feeling. Fortunately, I found better feeling ones when I was a bit older.

Supergoop has a new one called Zincscreen. When was the last time you had to arrange a payment plan for a tiny bottle of sunscreen? "Only 4 interest-free payments of $10.50" for 1.7 oz. If you use 1 T on your face and neck (as is recommended) this will last you 5 days. This is why we skimp on sunscreen. Thanks for helping us find affordable alternatives.

I totally agree with the spray not being used as a first line of defense. I use a physical sunscreen and a CC cream first. However, in terms of reapplication, the spray is useful throughout the day to refresh without altering your makeup for those who wear it. Thanks for this thorough review!

I was given the supergoop city sunscreen serem broad spectrum spf30+++ to try from a friend who just loves it. For some reason it seems to remind me of the Clinique broad spectrum 50 with uva and uvd. It went on really well I must admit I like this one. The serem supergoop just goes on well and I love the way it feels on skin. just love his one even at the pricing. I thinking will keep using Ithis as I get zero issues or burning and loves the way this goes on.

After hearing all the rave reviews I tried the Unseen Sunscreen but it was terrible for me! I have oily/acne prone skin and it made me so shiny and breakout. I looked and saw they put shea butter in it, dunno why they would put such a heavy greasy thing in something labeled "unseen". But I also got their standard "play" sunscreen for my body which I like a lot better and is actually much less greasy on my face.

I apply a matte broad spectrum SPF 32 (Image Skincare) under my makeup and use the Supergoop Setting Mist SPF 50 over my makeup for daily touch up. I apply the mist using the small travel size bottle because the spray is more manageable than the 3.4oz bottle. You really have to shake the bottle well so that the product mixes correctly. Otherwise, you’ll ruin your makeup look. Took some time to perfect the process for my oily skin but it works flawlessly! Thanks Dr. Dray for all your knowledge sharing❣️

I’ve been using the Supergoop Unseen Suncreen for a while. It’s the only one I can tolerate. I use a 5% Glycolic Acid Toner first then Drunk Elephant C-Firma Vit C (yes, I know how you feel about them), then I use the Cerave Moisturizing Lotion in the 12 oz pump. Finally, despite the price, I apply the Unseen Sunscreen. I do reapply several times a day. I can’t tolerate physical sunscreens. They irritate my eyes & skin where my eyes tear & my face hurts! I’ve ordered the Hada Labo & the Biore Essence Asian sunscreens from Amazon so just waiting for them to arrive! I really hope they work for me and I don’t have to spend so much for a tiny 1.7 oz sunscreen! Thank you for turning me on to the Asian sunscreens! :-)

For anyone that wants to buy this and watching this right now 8/21/19. At sephora you can by the Supergoop everyday SPF 50 in the value size (532 ml) for 48 dollars which makes it more affordable AND if you buy it at the VIB sale you can get 15-20% off on top of that so it makes it a much more affordable buy. YOURE WELCOME!!!! I was looking at their other sunscreens but the lasting power isn’t as long and this gives 80 minutes so I put it on while doing my 20 minute routine and then do my 30 minute commute to work and know my skins protected. I’m 26 so I’m at the age where my skin is still good but I’m starting to take my anti-aging/ skincare seriously and I want to get the best benefit before more aging begins. Been meaning to try out some of the Supergoop sunscreens in my ever-growing search for a decent mineral sunscreen that doesn't leave a white cast on dark skin! Thanks again for a helpful review, especially now that it's getting warmer and the UV index is rising. Speaking of which, have you already done a video or Q&A on summer skin care, specifically focusing on sweating? My face (especially my nose and upper lip) sweat profusely during the summer--so much so that I sometimes get prickly heat. I'm trying to figure out how I can keep reapplying sunscreen when that happens. I know I should after I've probably sweated it off, but should I wash (or at least rinse) my face first? Tips? Question for a future Q&A perhaps? Thanks again for all your helpful tips and reviews!

I was very interested in your thoughts. Had a terrible experience with the Supergoop setting mist. I bought into the line because I thought the owner/developers ideals seemed honorable. However after forking over the big $ I was very disappointed that I couldn’t use the product because the scent of alcohol was so strong I had trouble breathing and couldn’t get to the shower fast enough to wash it off my face, neck & hands. I absolutely agree that spray sunscreens don’t provide enough coverage. However, I think there is time and place for them. For example, when I go on long trail runs, I put cream sunscreen on initially, but throughout the run ‘supplement’ with spray one. Re-applying cream SPF on sweaty skin with dirty hands makes the spray preferable.

I use SPF every day as a part of my morning routine (I'm 29), but I find it very hard to reapply throughout the day because most days I am wearing (light) makeup. Do you have a suggestion for a good spray/ powder SPF that will not take off my makeup or look too powdery ??? Thank you! Love and appreciate your videos! -Gertie

I read that the unseen sunscreen contains Olibanum (Frankincense oil). Does this ingredient fall into same category of other essential oils or does this ingredient tend to be better than other essential oils for sensitive skin? Thanks! I love your videos!

Great video! 👍🏻.....yeah I wouldn’t like giving an expensive chemical to the mosquitoes 😀. Dr. Dray if I have two American sunscreens with SPF 50 and both have ZnO and TiO2 as the active ingredients, is it safe to assume that the one with a higher percentage of ZnO will have better UVA protection (inactive ingredients being the same in both)? Thanks!

Good to know!! I was using supergoop everyday, today was my first day using the elta MD sport and i really like it thus far. The big issue i have is i reapply so many times a day and eventually end up getting it in my eyes and then they burn. I am really hoping the Elta Md doesn't do that. I also use sprays, in a pinch but i am so glad you mentioned that as well. As always thank you so much for all of the good information.

Thank you for the info dr dray, I usually use a spray sunscreen on my children, mainly for the ease of application. Kids can be impatient lol. I will now be buying a cream sunscreen. I didn’t realize the sprays weren’t that effective, so thank you. I actually finally found Elta md sunscreen here at a local dermatologist office that sells it, and specializes in laser treatments. Otherwise I can’t seem to find it anywhere else here where I live in Canada.

Fitore Demiri Bare Republic face 30spf plays well with my Tarte concealer. It actually glides like a serum when going on. Banana Republic baby 50spf mineral base - much thicker. A little harder to rub on face but leaves your face and body very soft.

Those who don't experience white cast usually under apply, rub it in until the sunscreen cannot form an even film or are extremely pale.

This was a wonderful review of the line. I have a sample of the CC Cream and it's amazing, and the darker tone matches my skin well, but concerned about the methelyisothiazolinone. Would a patch test on part of the face be warranted? How long typically before a reaction shows up?

Hi Dr. Dray. Thank you so much for another great and informative video! Question: can a chemical sunscreen be applied over a physical sunscreen, or will it not be absorbed properly into the skin? I use a physical sunscreen in the morning (Elta MD) then spray on a chemical spray throughout the day. I wear foundation over my Elta, so I can’t really reapply that. I wouldn’t do this if I was at the beach or outside for a long period of time, but on days when I am mostly in the office, will a chemical spray afford any protection if I ensure a good application?

We have heard Dr. Dray talk about bergamot and other citrus oils cause photosensitivity in skin products... but what you probably haven’t heard is that drinking a lot of earl gray tea (bergamot) or Constant Comment tea (orange oil) before spending time in the sun will cause you to burn quite badly. I’ve lived at the beach all my life and know exactly how much time I can be outside without burning. On one cruise, they only had earl grey tea available in the buffet and I got burned purple.

The serum and the eye cream are the only ones that works with my husbands skin. Anything that has spf15 and up stings on him but these two doesn't. I use the eye cream as well because of the sunscreen and also, it doesn't give me eyelid dermatitis. I love Supergoop products. Unfortunately, not all the products are carried on Sephora PH like for example the eye cream so I have to bulk buy outside the Philippines.
