I must have a Berenstein thing going with the first movie, because I always pictured Dolph with the skull logo on his shirt, even in the box art. It’s so weird to check and see that it was always just a plain black tshirt.

If they reissued a version of the movie with the skull deepfaked onto his shirt, I wouldn't mind the change. I think there was some box art that had it, but of course box art often lies.

Apparently, Frank in the comics was heavily inspired by pulp novel vigilante known as The Executioner. I liked Ennis's Marvel Knights run on Punisher better than the Max stuff. It had more (dark) humor and Garth couldn't go quite as overboard with the unpleasant griminess. I hadn't seen that new comic design of the Punisher skill before. It looks like something out of Warhammer 40k. That song the assassin sings in the Tom Jane movie was later used by WWE in promotional material about The Undertaker. He might have even used it as part of his entrance once. Iron Eagle 1 and 2 are currently available on HBO Max! I found it amusing that the mission in Top Gun Maverick is similar to Iron Eagle 2's, just done better in every conceivable way.

@jkincaid5822 жыл бұрын
I'd daresay, while I think you are totally correct, and that Blade really started it all, I'm not sure how aware the general public was of the character. Even amongst the Marvel comic fans, he wasn't the most well-known character. Plus the movie played more like an action movie with vampires than anything. Starring one of the bigger action stars of the 90s. The sequels added more stuff in from the comics, with varying degrees of success.

Favorite comic series is Armory for me. Personally, I love the Jane film as I think it's much better than the stuff it was adapting, Year One and Welcome Back Frank, and I'm not as attached to the Ennis run as most people are. Dolph Lundgren and his portrayal of Frank Castle is so underrated. He would've made War Zone so much better. If they EVER make an Old Man Frank story, he's the ONLY man who can do it justice. He's far and away the best big screen Punisher yet. As far as your criticism, I agree. They need to do a grittier even more down and dirty Punisher film. War Zone is the closest we've gotten to that yet. As for other media, I really dig the Avengers Confidential: Black Widow and Punisher anime style cartoon movie. That did also cover ground from War Zone in that he killed SHIELD members... albeit under some kind of mind control.

I would love to see a Punisher movie where the Punisher targets racists and terrorists using his symbol, as well as Cops using his symbol and tactics, just to be an F you to the people in real life who have adopted his symbol and completley missed the point of his character. But then again that could just inspire backlash, from people who again miss the entire point of the statement. But either way there should be a law that prevents the punisher symbol from being anywhere nere a precint or cop.
@michaelroque26622 жыл бұрын
My mother works for the CT State police, and i have been exposed to the good and bad sides of the justice system my whole life because of it. And it just pisses me off when I see a cop with the Punisher symbol on his desk or on there cruiser. I onced delivered a printer to a Boston precinct and saw the symbol framed at an officer's desk. I found that cop and his Master Sargent and berated both of them for the use of it and for allowing it at a place that is supposed to uphold the law. Probably not the smartest thing I have ever done, but I don't regrent it.

I liked the Punisher more or less as a villain (or anti-hero, if you prefer). I was very happy, in the early 80s, when they decided he was crazy, and he was arrested and locked up. I think I read at least some of the Ennis run, and it was okay, but If I'm going to read Ennis and Dillon, I'd rather re-read Preacher. On the other hand, I loved the Netflix series. Then again, I think Jon Bernthal is very underappreciated as an actor.

I haven't read the recent Punisher series, but from what I heard, the logo change is similar to when Daredevil joined The Hand; and they might change it back to the original when the series is done. My favorite comic version of Punisher is the Jim Lee stuff in Punisher War Journal. I never saw the Dolph Lundgren film, but I did see the other two. I wasn't crazy about the Tom Jane one, as he just doesn't sell the badass, vigilante type. The Ray Stevenson movie was great. Very violent and had Jigsaw in it. His skull logo could've looked better though. The Jon Bernthal show was great, but that actor is too southern for the role.

It is a bummer that right wing psychos have managed to co-opt the character. I am not a fan of the ninja move but at least he isn't an angel or Frankenstein's monster this time around. Anyway my favorite run is also Max followed by his old War Journel series. Kind of off topic but a good reccomendation for any fan of comic anti-heroes is the 1990 Foolkiller mini. It does a great job of showing the 'hero' as technically doing good things while also effectively becoming a villain.

??? Fat? What does that mean? Ray Stevenson is an 'actor' that plays fat and fit characters - so what? ... Ray Stevenson is still the best looking Punisher and closest to the comics ... Thomas Jane turned down the role as the script was widely looked at as hot garbage, numerous directors had turned it down and public buzz was not very promising. Lionsgate basically dropped the uber-violent Warzone into the slow post-Thanksgiving time of the year (!!!) and barely promoted it as they were more focused on the release of Transporter 3 - go figure... I still think it is the best of the three Punisher films with Dolph second and Jane last ....
