Krypton's religion was called Raoism, but Superman was raised in a Christian family here on Earth. However, he does occasionally say "Great Rao!" or "By Rao!" as many of his people used to do, mostly as an expression of surprise. I'm guessing he does not want to misuse God's name because it goes against one of the Ten Commandments, so he uses Rao's name to express surprise or something.

Based on her backstory, Black Widow was likely raised an atheist in Soviet Russia. This is echoed in the comics, but interestingly, she is seen going to confession to a priest in Marvel Knights #1. In any case, Black widow isn’t perfect by any means, but it appears that there is something innate to her character that draws her close to Catholic symbolism. This also proves Voyage writer Matthew Heffron’s point on Why comic book artists rely on Catholic symbols to portray religion. She may not be a saint, but she does appear to be a sinner who seeks forgiveness for her past life, willing to sacrifice her own life to atone for them and save others.

The amount of belief varies of course, some are officially Christian mostly because their families were, but they aren't what you'd call regular church-goers, while others are deeply spiritual, Nightcrawler for instance being an ordained Catholic Priest. Officially Tony Stark is an Atheist, however I'd say he's more Agnostic, he's seen too much Cosmic stuff over the years to be absolutely certain.

The thing about characters as popular as heroes is that there are thousands of versions and writers out there all making different versions of the same character. A lot of the writers who wrote some of Batman's best and influential stories like Frank Miller and Grant Morrison did say that Batman was Christian. But since he's fictional and doesn't really talk about religion I guess just make him whatever you want. Personally I'm a Christian so I like to think of Batman as being one too.

The issue to me, is not if the people that are collector of the character, we know him very well, specially in the recent issues, we can spen hours and days debating about Batman's personality, even Frank Miller said, when he wrote Dark night returns, that Batman was the boss, that he has, his own porpouse and motivations. The core of the discussion is, what was the intention of Bill Finger when he created not only the personality of Batman, he also gave him name and last name, Bob Kane only was the drasftman. Bill Finger took 2 historical figures, that were real catholic persons. The name was taken from Robert Bruce, that was a scotish King, Angus MacFadyen play the historical figure in the movie brave heart. The last name was taken from Anthony Wayne, that was an officer in the Continental Army durante the American Revolution, he vas also a very catholic person. So we can argue about the religion of a comic character based on their creators, for example i know people who think that Superman is jew becose Joe Shuster & Jerry Shiegel were jews. I belive Bill Finger was the real creator of Batman, the best parts of Batman that has made the character still fresh, contemporary, not for nothing the character this year is celebrating 85 years of life.

the issue you are talking about is where Spider-man is exhausted from all the crime fighting and the guilt he carries for not being able to save everyone, so he slowly starts to lose hope... then he meets god and learns that his suffering is for the greater good(but really it's just the editors wanting more sales)

This is a very interesting video. When DC and Marvel first came out, most of their heroes were Christens but since America became less Christen, so did comics. It's pretty sad. @@josest645 Just because a character is an alien doesn't mean they have to worship the God their people/beings worshipped and just because they witness many Gods or cosmic beings doesn't mean these characters are automatically going to change their faith and automatically redefine their entire character based on it. Superman maybe an alien but he was still raised by the Kents who were church goers in the older comic books, not to mention he did not know he was an alien until his late teens therefore Clark could have adapted to the Kents religion. Despite having powers Superman never thinks himself as a God he even addresses this to Regieme Superman in Injustice Gods Among Us. Superman has also had run ins with Spectre and Phantom Stranger whose powers and existence comes from God himself, Spectre is The embodiment of God's Wrath which means he's above Superman's power. There's all possibilities for Superman to believe in God That is what I love about DC characters they are not define by what they are or their background, they instead make their own choices. They can be Alien and worship any of Earth's Gods or they can be like Constantine who has seen God and not care. Martian Manhunter in Justice League Animated Series checked out a church in the Christmas episode, Hawkgirl rejected the Thanagarian God Despite knowing his existence.

You have Catholic Christian, Protestant Christian, but for some characters it just says Christian (ex. Nightwing, Hawkeye, etc) what does that mean? Also Steve Rogers is Catholic. I imagine HawkMan & HawkWoman, they both get turned, into a rare type of Hawks I imagine both (Hal Jordan) & (John Stewart) & (Guy Gardner) the Green-Lanterns of Earth, they get turned into, huge Eagles. I imagine (John Constantine) the Anti-Hero, he gets turned into, a big golden furred Fox, and I imagine he still can cast magic spells. I imagine (Jason Todd) aka RedHood, who’s an Anti-Hero, he gets turned into a huge brown Wolf. “Now I imagine other heroes are turned into different types of wildlife, but despite that they still have their human minds.” Plus to add they are still able to use their abilities, and for others are able to use their, powers, and magic. But I imagine it took a long time, for each of them to adjust, to the curse cast upon them, and try to use their abilities, powers, & magic again. I also imagine within this realm, where the most popular heroes, had a curse spell cast upon them, it took four years for them, to eventually get their true body forms back.

Batman lives in a universe where the Bible has a lot of physical evidence - Spectre, Ragman, Etrigan, Zuriel, the Spear of Destiny, etc...not to mention God (called the Presence in DC) & Lucifer are actual characters as well. Batman would never believe in the supernatural...and that's understandable. But from Batman's - in the comics - perspective, there is overwhelming evidence to the contrary. In the context of the DCU they are objectively real - there is proof and evidence abound. Batman doesn't ignore the objective facts in his own universe

Yeah. As a Christian, it surprised me to see Deadpool being labeled as a Christian. My theory is that many of these people might have grown up with and still believe that in the basics of Christianity, they just don’t care about it and aren’t devout. It’s quite common for people who label themselves as Christians to not really care at all about what was told to them, which is sad but true.

Yeah it was confirmed that Hal is Jewish as during a flashback at his father’s funeral he said that while his mom was Jewish since his dad was Catholic she wanted him to have a catholic funeral. Partly according to Jewish law Jewish people are recognized as Jewish if their mother was Jewish thus making Hal Jewish as his mother was Jewish.

This would give Hal another connection to the justice society or all star squadron as his uncle on his fathers side was a superhero known as Airwave who was a member of the all star squadron and his cousin who took on his fathers mantle of Airwave became a member of the justice society. Also imagine if Hal’s maternal grandparents were reunited with the superheroes who liberated them such as the justice society such as Jay Garrick aka Flash, Alan Scott aka Green Lantern, Ted Grant aka Wildcat, and other surviving members of the justice society.

Christopher Nolan's verseion of Batman looks more like a Buddhist convert to me, as he trained in Asia and the choices he makes are those of a Buddhist. Also, because he embraces his darkness while being a hope-bringer. He may have started out as Catholic but the death of his parents could have caused a crisis of faith, and according to Nolan's movies, he wanted revenge first, then moved on and became "more".

Okay, could someone explain the following: Antman-Repentant Religion? That could be a lot of religions. One video has it as simply "Christian." Rocket Raccoon-Uplifted Animal Religion? Will google that. Cable-Asrani Religion? Googled it found little about specific beliefs. Side notes (not corrections, just observations): The Thing is Jewish, which makes sense because he basically looks like a Golem from the myth. He eventually got a girlfriend that was into Goddess worship. I don't know if he converted, or simply had her influence him, but in another video he was into Goddess worship. Professor X was labeled Jewish in another video, but I googled a couple of other sources, and some said Protestant/Episcopalian. Spider Man is a Protestant Christian but he has a Jewish Personality. Batman, from what I can gather, is somewhere between an atheist, an apostate, and maybe an agnostic. He has respect for religion. He knows Gods exist-he's fought and dated them. I heard from some source one of his parents was Catholic and one was Episcopalian. Dr. Strange might be Buddhist, but the supernatural world he lives in is very Hindu. Another video said Jewish. Considering Kabbalism, it wouldn't be hard for me to see him as steadily influenced by all 3. Another video made Black Widow out to be Greek Orthodox. Considering she's Russian, Orthodox or atheist, or somewhere in between can make sense. In another video, Hawkeye was atheist, as well as Scarlet Witch. Concerning Scarlet, there are "atheistic Jews", as people can take being Jewish as more of a cultural thing than a religious one. Another video said Iceman was Episcopalian, but a quick google search had him listed as "Jewish/Catholic." Beast is interesting. He's listed in other areas as either Protestant/Episcopalian or Agnostic. It's possible to be between levels of belief and disbelief. One thing had Storm as Episcopalian, but I guess even if that's how you were raised, it's hard to ignore aspects of another religion playing out in front of you. I wonder if she tried to keep some vestigial organs of Episcopalianism or just went full into Goddess worship. Wolverine was raised Protestant, in an area that's historically Catholic. He's sometimes atheist, sometimes staunchly so, but he also practiced Buddhism. It is possible to have Buddhism as a philosophy alongside your religious beliefs without contradicting them.
