Not only am i blown away by these beautiful (beautiful is an understatement by the way) houses and the timeless design inherent in all of them i can't believe my eyes when i see they are in such great condition after 70yrs...inside and out. It's as if they were built a month ago and the owners moved in last week. I've said this before and i'll say it again " todays architects got nothing on these guys..(John Lautner & FLW) keep these vids coming please

Once again, thank you so much for your effort in creating these amazing, detailed important legacy video's Jop! Lautner truly is one of the best architects the world has ever seen. I have a few favorites, but Lautner is nr.1 for me. 🙏 Missed your video's. I btw also own a quite incredible MCM house. In case you want to go rogue one day and show other architects let me know lol.

Thank you @milo that you like me videos so much, that really stimulates me to make more content. Lautner is also my favorite architect but I also lovwe Frank lloyd Wright and many houses by Richard Neutra. Also some works by Le Corbusier. in the future I will expand the channel and I will make videos about there houses as well! Great to hear that you own an MCM house yourself. Yes we can make a video about your home someday! send me a private message than share information and photos about that house. I can publish the video when I'm done with the Lautner videos (some 11 videos about John Lautner will come up).

ironically for a man considered today a man of his time this house is today nothing if not timeless. Architects are generally known today for their large scale commercial and/or institutional work. Lautner's work commends attention not only for its immaculate attention to detail but for its engineering. From the Chemosphere to the cantilevered driveway of Silvertop - to name two of the most obvious - perhaps there were genius engineers who have gone unacknowledged, but one has to wonder how many small practice engineers would take on similar projects even today? Not to mention architects.
@SuperJobbel

The many construction workers and egineers that worked should be mentioned to. They deserve more credits, but unfortunately it's difficult to track down there names. Also the video should be to long to mention all there names. But shout out to them and there great affords!

H beams and I beams are similar but not the same. H beams are generally used in vertical load position, and I beam used in horizontal position. The flanges are wider on H beams, the central web wider on I beams.
@SuperJobbel
@SuperJobbel Жыл бұрын
Okay thank you, I didn't know for sure wether H or I beams were used in the Tyler House. But if you say that I beams are more commonly used in horizontal positions, it probably that. Although H beams are stronger and the floating livingspace of the Tyler House has to be very strong, so H beams are still also possible. Thanks for your criticism.. I learn from it and so I an improve my videos.

@@SuperJobbel Thank you! I really do enjoy your series. I just mention this to help you learn and improve. These videos will be seen for decades and hopefully inspire others to look into Lautner. He was a favored student of Frank Lloyd Wright's, and indeed created his own style, and designed many great structures. Thank you for creating this series👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Beautiful design !!!. However, two observations: First, I suppose that the jalousie windows (ugh !!!) are kept for originality/period-correct reasons. Second, my wife says NO !!! to steps up and down from the kitchen !!! She says: "You try carrying the finished meals down steps to the table !!!" 😂
@SuperJobbel

Outstanding. If designed/built today, it would have the same progressive impact. The H beams explains the floor support out to the chimney. But, is the chimney reinforced in anyway to carry that weight? Anyone?🤔

@@SuperJobbel It's a bit too random to be just... well, random. I wonder what the purpose was. Directing draft / air flow? Pets? Sweeping away the dust? Thief trap? For leaving your sweaty shoes outside? Haha...
@SuperJobbel
@SuperJobbel 2 жыл бұрын
@@l.s.11 hahah... yes the only answer I can come up with: next to the house is a stair that goes up to the hill, when you climp up this stair the small windows are on eye level, so it could be used for looking inside when you are standing on the stair. Or when you have a package delivery, the delivery person can sldie the package through that window when he 's standing on that stair . I guess it safes a lot of time, instead of climbing up the whole stair and walking around to the front door............... I don't know if I have answered youre question correctly but this is what I think!

why did Lautner decide not to connect the main floor with the downstairs?
@SuperJobbel
@SuperJobbel Жыл бұрын
I don't know the exact reason for that, but in many Californian homes it's common to have separate floor levels, that are connected from the outside. The lack of an internal stair creates more livingspace and because of the hot Californian climate it's not a problem to go outside every time. John Lautner's " Dautsch House" and "Foster House" haven't internal stairs either. Just check out the videos about those homes.

For anyone interested, there's a video of the house (not everything is shown), and you can see how it "breathes" in the sunlight. Seems like it was bought and restored by an appreciative enthusiast. You can watch the video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKKngImMpspjm6s

Thanks for sharing that link: yes it's an interesting video, but the problem with any other videos about john Lautner is that, as you already mentioned it, they don't show everything and they don't show how the house was laid out. That's why I started this channel, the make overviews of the houses as complete as possible.

@@SuperJobbel Oh yeah, I really appreciate your effort. The video I linked is more so complementary to yours. I don't think I'd understand the layout just from watching it, but it was nice to see the gorgeous textures and the play of light and interesting to hear the owner talk about it.

I can't get over how much this design reminds me of tangram puzzles. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tangram And while I love the way Lautner uses the warmth of wood in his interiors, I was surprised to see him extend it all the way into the shower stall of one of the bathrooms. That has to be a maintenance headache.
