More than ever, we need that unwavering sense of kindness, hope and compassion, that feeling that even with all the darkness, someone will do the right thing, just because it’s right. We need a hero who stands for the best in all of us-uncompromising in his ideals, always ready with a helping hand, and never losing faith in what we can achieve together. Zach Snyder never understood Superman. Superman is the symbol who lifts us up, inspires us, & never gives up on humanity. He brings light to the darkest corners, sets the standard for goodness, and reminds us that there’s something worth striving for: hope, love, kindness, and the unshakable belief that we can be better. We don't need another hero. We need a super hero.

This absolutely feels like what I want from a Superman movie. It seems like a pretty optimistic take on the character, which is something we really haven't seen much of in years. We even get a modern remix of the classic theme.

@ Hard disagree, it’s genuinely one of my favorite films. It’s campy, great cast, arch scene chewing villain, some of the best flying effects in the franchise, and has an amazing score - deliberately not mentioning the score’s composer, as that’s a spoiler & the TA will likely recognize the name.

@@wolfofthewest8019 So you don't have to go looking for it, the CW Show was "Smallville". It's set when Clark is in highschool, but then it went for 10yrs, so he's about 30 when it finishes. As a result, Lois doesn't join the story until half way through the series. Ironically, they did this show because they weren't able to do a young Bruce Wayne show, which did happen, decades later, as "Gotham". But, yeah, hmm, be interesting what you think of Superman 3 & 4 (Superman 2 is great).

“deathtrap” is a fantastic Christopher Reeve movie he did with Michael Caine (pretty much just the two of them make up the movie). Look, I was in the bag for this, I pretty much love everything James Gunn has made, so make of that what you will, but I thought this looked great. It's a really interesting choice to have other heroes in the film, Superman has often existed in a vacuum, even Man of Steel went that direction, we'll see if that distracts in the film itself or not. I love the look of the film, I love the overall tone of the trailer, I'm very excited. Great to have this quick reaction to the trailer!

On Superman The Movie: As you probably noticed, some of the things set up in this film (like Superman and Lois not kissing and everything with the villains on Krypton) wasn't paid off. Superman I was filmed back-to-back with Superman II and Richard Donner had hoped they'd form a complete story. Unfortunately, he had a falling out with the studio over financial decisions (such as the studio being unwilling to pay for Brando to be in the second film). That said, I'd recommend seeing the "Donner Cut" of Superman II. (IIRC, the Donner Cut was available to stream on Max.) It was released somewhat recently and uses footage Donner had shot, some test footage, and parts of the theatrical release to create as much of Donner's original story as possible. The theatrical release isn't bad by any means, I just prefer the more cohesive whole the Donner Cut creates with both parts.

I watched Christopher Reeve fly in to rescue Lois Lane from the helicopter as an 8-year old and he's always been my Superman. Only Henry Cavill came close. Sadly, he was saddled with Snyder and then Gunn 'not-fire' him. Had Gunn kept him on, then I would be cautiously optimistic. None of the DC films have been worth anything, especially since it seems Warner / DC have no idea what to do with them. Superman has been rebooted 3 times in the last decade. So, Gunn's ideas for the new DCMU? Have me not interested at all. I'm glad you've enjoyed the teaser trailer and I don't begrudge anyone their optimism. Personally, I'm not interested at all to watch a discount-Henry Cavill, directed by Gunn, who, btw, claimed that The Flash was the best Superhero movie ever.

Christopher Reeve is totally my Superman, but I’ve never been as hopeful of a new take on Superman in film than James Gunn’s upcoming “Superman”. That said, credit where credit is due, Tom Welling was a great young Clark and I really liked Tyler Horchlin’s version on Superman on TV. Henry Cavill was the perfect image of Superman, but I wasn’t thrilled by the way his performance was used story-wise by Zack Snyder . . . just a dark and weirdly messianic interpretation (though I fault Bryan Singer for first doing the heavy imagery of Superman as kind of Christ-like in film).

*I wasn't really looking forward to this new Superman movie, but... The teaser did intrigue me:* *Love the possibility that Gunn made Superman less "invulnerable" than previous movie Supermans (It might still be just that Kryptonite is involved, but somehow the way that the trailer starts seems to indicated to me that Superman is more vulnerable in this one: And I am here for that because Superman being invulnerable is what makes the character boring; to me at least!). The shot of Superman protecting a kid from flying gas canisters and pushing her head down with his hand was **_sick AF!_** Hoult as Lex Luther looks good but being Lex is more about attitude; so I'll hold off judgement on that when we hear him speak... The one thing that doesn't work for me is : Krypto! 🤦♂ Stop making CGI animals in movies, people! It looks SO FAKE! He moves like a Looney Toons' cartoon dog and looks like it has no weight (Cosmo, in **_Guardians 3_** looked a lot better than that!). It's a teaser trailer, so maybe the CGI will look better in the finished product, but most of my beef with it has to do more with attitude, movements and interactions between the dog's paws and the snow look; and it just looks fake! (Go back to using REAL animals for movies, people: Just CGI facial features and maybe an arm/paws in a few shots that require specific movements that a trained animal could not deliver otherwise and your movies will be a lot better for it!)*
