I remember watching Proton Jon's LP of this game and some of the information he dug up on it alluded to something very interesting. Supposedly, the game that was published wasn't actually the final product, but was the unfinished beta build, and they didn't realize it until it was too late. It was apparently such a disaster that they just wanted to pretend it never happened and that this game never existed, because they placed everyone involved in the project under contract to never speak of the development process. This includes the CO Founder of Titus, Eric Caen who when asked about what was removed from the game, said, "I'm not allowed to say what was cut. But it was a lot." He also says something about DC and WB causing them a lot of trouble and states that there were "Political reasons" for why the game is the way it is and that, curiously enough, the rings only show up in the tutorial levels. The contract was still legally binding in 2011 and may still be so today.

Same with Sonic 06. The released game was of that of a more 'Stable' build, from earlier on in development. Only difference here being, that the Producers knew what was coming out, whereas Eric Cann didn't with Superman 64.

I read an interview with the producer of this game agreed this was a terrible game and was not even 10% of what they fully wanted and were going for. They were really wanting to make this an open world game, but the fault of being terrible was because DC bitching too much causing production to be slow and missing marketing dates, along with being rushed. Sad how DC were the one's at fault for ruining what would of been a good game of the designers had more leeway. I guess in an alternate universe Superman is an N64 classic and innovative in the sandbox genre.

Its like imagine of Rare was forced to rush GoldenEye because of MGM complaining and we got a game like superman 64? The exception being collecting 007 logos throughout the level in a short time limit. Plus it has to be collected in a certain way. Once you collected the 007 logos you get to shoot 6 henchmen with an on rails fashion, rinse and repeat.
