Actually guys you may mention this later in the video I've only gotten about three quarters of the way through it so forgive me if you do mention it. Actually Superman doesn't kill the villains. There is a famous deleted scene where you see Superman with Lois Lane and the Arctic police for military are up there and you see General zod and his team being taken away by the police along with lex luthor. so he actually doesn't kill the super villains. The theatrical cut famously deletes the scene.

Let me tell a story about Superman IV: The Quest For Peace. It’s the summer of 1987, I was 10 years old, my parents decided to take me and my younger sister to the movies. I come from a family of 5 kids so movies were an incredibly rare treat. We get to the theater and my dad says he and I were going to see Superman while my mom took my sister to see something else. O. M. G! You guys! I get to watch an entire movie *alone* with my dad in a theater!! I am not kidding when I say this was the *only* time that ever happened. Time alone with my dad was unheard could be hard to come by here I am about to spend an hour and a half with him watching a SUPERMAN MOVIE!! It was among the greatest days of my life. So I watched the movie and I loved it. We talked about it all the way home. I talked about it at breakfast the next morning. I made a construction paper cape for a blue lego man and a black one for a yellow lego man so I could recreate the movie. It. Was. Awesome! Skip ahead 4-5 years. I hadn’t watched the movie since the theater but it was on TV. Not HBO or anything fancy, just a regular local station with commercial breaks. I was excited all over again. I was 14 or 15 by now so I watched with a different lens this time... it was awful... it was the worst... it was hard to even sit through the whole thing. I seriously couldn’t believe how bad this movie was! So bad. So, so bad! How could I have like it so much? How could my dad have liked it!? Then it hit me, he didn’t. He knew it was bad but he knew how excited I was so he just kept talking to me about it. I hugged him that afternoon because I had new view on what being a dad was really about. Superman IV is a terrible movie. If you’ve never seen it don’t bother. If you have seen it, I’m sorry you had to endure it. But it taught me about being a dad and how much my dad cared. Superman IV is an amazing movie. (But seriously, don’t watch it, it sucks).

There is more to it than the brilliance of Christopher Reeves acting that makes the Clark Disguise work in these films. It is the Daily Planet as a place to hide. He chose a hectic, chaotic place full of self absorbed people dealing with constant fast moving drama to be Clark Kent. If you watch closely there are often long times where no one even looks directly at him. This is totally lost in later versions, in Superman Returns they even had this huge long scene where the other characters gaze at Clark wondering if he could be Superman, UUUURG! The brilliance of Superman's disguise is that he chose the perfect place to hide :)
@R-Lee-3 жыл бұрын
@Gary Cashlim So you were shocked when you found out that Clark Kent was actually Superman. I kind of have the same story I was nine when I went to see Terminator 2. Of course I thought Arnold was going to be the bad guy, as I had seen the first Terminator, but when he ended up saving John at the mall I was shocked like you were. I recently had the opportunity to show my 10-year-old daughter the Terminator movies and she was shocked as I was.

That’s the same reason why the disguise doesn’t work in so many other things, where he’s like a very well known star reporter. He still has the bumbling attitude but a lot of the general public at least knows his name if not his face, and around the office he’d be a minor celebrity
@dildonius2 жыл бұрын
@@logandh2 Something that the best Superman artists are able to convey is the MASSIVELY different body-language that he displays whe disguised as Clark Kent - lots of slouching and carrying himself in a way that makes all his bulging muscles look more like lumpy fat, even giving himself almost a double-chin, in addition to the meek, bumbling demeanor, the messy hair and glasses, the stammering and constantly seemingly overwhelmed by the big city, seeming like a big lumpy farm-boy who's absurdly clumsy. And then as Superman he exudes Supreme confidence in his posture and stride and demeanor and cadence, his muscles look like rippling muscles, hair perfectly quaffed, square jaw etc etc. But yeah, making Clark Kent a celebrity TV personality really is a bad idea. It asks just a bit too much of the reader re: suspension of disbelief. But think about how many of the world's most popular PRINT JOURNALISTS whose faces you can instantly recognize. It's MUCH easier for someone in that position living in the quintessential bustling big city metropolis to be able to be Superman with out anyone noticing. Also I feel like some folks overestimate just how often Superman's face is out there in public, on TV and stuff. Like people know what he looks like....but not THAT much.

Remove the time-reversal from 1, just don't have Lois die, edit the end so it ends with the missile he threw into space breaking the Phantom Zone. Then have him reverse time in the second film like they planned. You could even edit the sequences of them attacking the small town so that it's actually them attacking Washington. I know there are fans who have done fan edits of the individual scenes already floating on KZbin. But it'd be nice to have an official version done by the studio. Maybe for its 50'th anniversary coming up.

The canon eventually developed in the comics is that Kryptonians and Martians are the two most powerful alien races in the entire Universe, and that the Guardians deliberately moved both species to places which would nerf their powers in order to prevent them from simply ruling everything. So Kryptonians are almost unlimited in power, and Superman _is_ unlimited. As he gets older, his powers grow stronger and more numerous. It's been established that Kryptonian powers are all actually psychic in nature, though they operate unconsciously. This is why, for example, Superman can carry a building without it collapsing; he's using a form of telekinesis to lift it and hold it together.

He goes to the Daily Planet to find Clark Kent so he can get help from Superman, who realized Curt must be from Earth Prime and agrees to get him home. As they're flying, Curt starts asking Superman a bunch of questions, like "How does your curl keep its shape while you're flying?" and "How do you keep your suit from getting wrinkled when you fold it up to store in your cape?" Superman laughs and the only answer he gives to this barrage of questions is: _"I'm Superman."_

John Ratzenberger was one of a few American actors living in England doing film work in the 70’s and 80’s, including William Hootkins, who was in “Star Wars”, “Batman”, “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Superman 4” and Shane Rimmer (from “Thunderbirds”) who was Ratzenberger’s NASA counterpart in “Superman 2”. Shane also played the older water control technician at the end of “Batman Begins”. I found out how he got that role when I met him at a convention about 7 years ago in the U.K. where he still lived. His son Ben was a location supervisor for “Begins” and Nolan asked him if he was by chance related to Shane Rimmer. He told him it was his dad and Nolan got super excited as he was a massive “Thunderbirds” fan. They all went out to dinner and Nolan offered him a part. Two bonus fun facts: 1) Ratzenberger and Rimmer were still close friends until Shane’s passing in 2019. 2) Ratzenberger was also in “Superman: The Movie” as one of the nuclear missile techs (“Function negative sir!”)

The little known fact the Luthor holograms are real using the recycled tech they also used for the hologram of Superman flying out of the screen from the first one, but that was cut due to poor test audiences dying of heart attacks.

I remember hearing that the diner fight scene was highly praised when it was released, and Lester was given credit for that part in the media. Richard Donner filmed the diner scenes in '77. I also seem to remember that Donner was an extra in some of the shots.

14:34 In the fortress of solitude where they play that game where you had to guess who is real.... Back in the day I distinctly remember Superman telling Lois that this "was a game they used to play in high school," and back then I was thinking...wait you mean Smallville High? How did that work and why did no one think it was strange...or make it into the news? I guess Superman meant that he played it with his friends Pete, Chloe, and Lana (who already knew his secret).

John Ratzenberger is in Superman the Movie too. He's the guy who tries to hit the kill switch on the XK-101 missile, "function negative sir". He also does some ADR during the East Housten scene "Who's the big guy?". Also, no mention of the news anchor who speaks to Zod? He's played by Richard LeParmentier who played the dude from Star Wars who gets choked out by Vader before Tarkin saves him. He was married to Sarah Douglas.

I'm sure this has been mentioned already, but I had to get it off my mind--Gene Hackman was so upset over Donner's firing he quit--any scene with Luthor was shot during part one, and anything for part two was shot at a distance with a stand in and a voice actor.
