Pretty sure Lantern never had underwear unless you count Alan Scott and I'm not even to sure about that. The mainstream marvel characters mostly did not wear underwear on their tights apart from Ant Man and the X Men and others. I don't think Cap did.

You don't pull on Superman's cape, you don't piss in the wind, and you don't remove the red underwear from his costume. You just don't :D As for the "whiny" part, take that with a grain of salt. These are skits done by Stan Lee, who doesn't like Superman to begin with. And look what he did with the other DC characters in this series (especially Green Lantern). Need I say more?

Disgusted Batman No hate meant by this, but the red shorts were an iconic piece to Superman. They were a big part of his costume and character.
