Agreed, “You’re not one of them” is one of my favorite tracks from this film and the scene with Superman floating over the Earth hearing everything encompasses everything that makes him a good character without saying a single word. I think this film is underrated although it’s not perfect.
@charlieweston82844 жыл бұрын
I’ve never known anyone who’s agreed the music in this is amazing! This scene particularly though I almost feel like (maybe even intentionally) the kids piano kind of like syncs with the background music and foreshadows the bit where they’re sinking in the boat (as the melody there’s similar)😄🤷♂️

Probably my fave scene of any superhero movie. The music and the way he hears the rejection. Its heartbreaking , knowing he has lost it all. Truly the best since Reeve. The music, the camera work, writing. Everything about this scene is perfection and just hurts every time. The way he tears up flying away. Damn it!

Brandon Routh did really well as Clark/Supes. Kate played her part very maturely, despite her age. The only problem I have is the way the relationship between Clark and Lois was portrayed. Lois was very very distant. It's like their friendship totally dissolved. Unlike in the Superman movies with Christopher Reeve and Margott Kidder, where they were really friends. In Superman Returns, it's like Lois didn't care at all about Clark.

I know a lot of people hated this particular Superman movie, but I loved it. I think all of the performances were amazing, the cinematography was beautiful and the musical score was lovely as well. It moved slowly and was mainly about character development in lieu of constant, over-the-top, ridiculous explosions, so I think most ADD-aflicted audiences found it "not exciting enough."
@jeks9454 жыл бұрын
I agree with your praise of the film- I like it too, but ADD audiences can sit through this film just fine if they wished too. I am one and I certainly did. I wouldn’t make the assumption that everyone with ADD or ADHD can’t sit through a slower-paced film regardless of its genre. I think the audiences your referring to are the superhero action fans or in general the blockbuster movie lovers. On a different note, Superman is a timeless, classic character. I won’t say I have loved all the adaptations of him that have been made, but I do enjoy seeing new interpretations of Superman.

Yeah I dunno why she got so much hate for this movie, I thought she did an ok job, you wouldn’t think she’s 23 you’d just think she takes good care of herself
@John-ct9zs3 жыл бұрын
@@mattysquared2 You had to be old enough to remember the 2000s, and probably at least around Bosworth's age or older. Bosworth had done a bunch of teen movies at the time, and now she was 23 and trying to play Lois Lane who by this movie's logic should be at least 35 or even 40. Brandon Routh got flak too for looking way too young. Yes people realized that the movie wasn't following the Chris Reeve timeline exactly, the previous events didn't happen in 1978 and 1981, but still you got this sense that it probably happened in 1998 and 2001 in this universe and Supes and Lois would have been early 30s in 1998 and later 30s or even early 40s by Superman Returns. Neither Bosworth or Routh conveyed that, though the actor who played Richard (I forget his name, same guy from X-Men) did a reasonably good job of playing 30ish, probably because he was.
@AlexGonzalez-gf4oz2 жыл бұрын

And her answer is yes she was & still is in love with Superman but she didn't want Richard to get jealous which is what would've happened. He was the nice sweet ho hum guy (Except James Mardsen is anything but a Mr. Pointdexter he's really hot) who would've spent the next part of their relationship comparing himself to a guy who can fly faster than the speed of light, lift a building, & bend steel bars. Kal-El should know by now that earth women lie frequently and on a regular basis and her obvious reaction just gave her away. The other guy is actually a decent dude and she didn't want to hurt his feelings, start a drama, and create a rift in her marriage, unintentionally and predictably and routinely ends up only hurting Kal-El's/Clark's feelings instead (the outsider and underdog who is perpetually isolated who just wants to be loved). Cuts away as he flies away defeated into the night sky seething with sadness, anger, loneliness, and frustration as he remembers warnings from his dead father's voice (Marlon Brando as Jor-El ) reminding him that even though he was raised as a human being he is not one of them and never will be.

Bullshit. Clark was raised as a human just as anyone else. Why should he be able to predict earth women if he was the exact viewpoint of a human man? He is technically Kryptonian, but it’s not like he has some weird intellectual superiority to humans. He was raised as human, he grew up among humans, he makes the same personal errors humans do. He just has extraordinary powers. Clark wouldn’t have a social high ground with humans if he has the same social flaws as humans.

This was the moment in the theater when I realized that this was not going to be the film I expected it to be. My disappointment began right around this spot. I was SOOOOO disappointed. I had confidence in Singer. I enjoyed the film whole-heartedly right up until the elevator scene. When you realize nothing exciting is going to happen after this point. Superman just returned and saved an entire plane of passengers, and Lex is pissed, and Clark goes to the Daily Planet to catch up with Lois, then it gets to the elevator scene...then Clark following Lois out of the DP building and Lois asking Clark for love advice...I'm like...shouldn't Superman confront, or say, visit an old friend at this point? And I mean Lex Luthor...like visit him at the LexCorp tower. Then the melodramatic music starts to play when Superman slowly flies over Metropolis in the evening (when he follows Lois home), that's when I realize this is going to be a mediocre film and a very, very, very very SIMPLE story and BORING, DEPRESSING...I mean it's Superman for fuck's sake. We see Superman stun the city again (like the original) not that the scenes are bad in itself, but for a 21st century movie, in order to have Superman be taken seriously, it needs to have depth, and it can't just be Superman saving random people like it's some Saturday morning cartoon, and Superman not have anything to do with himself, because that's too simple, or should I say boring? "Are you alright ma'm?" then flies off. I mean just compare this to the first Spider-Man movie, in comparison, Spider-Man was a more mature movie that adults could watch and enjoy. I don't blame others for thinking Superman was lame because of those rescue scenes alone. As a Superman fan, I was embarrassed. The central core of this movie is the Clark/Superman/Lois love triangle again. I liked it in other versions, but never liked it in this film. This film was depressing and boring. Lois was shallow. Superman just...he didn't speak, and it was nearly impossible for audiences to relate to him. He had two lines with Lex Luthor and they only had one scene together. I thought this movie would be so much more. Still disappointed to this day. Man of Steel is so divisive with the disaster porn, but it beats the hell out of Superman Returns for me. I was glad for that.
@roberts37416 жыл бұрын
I was really excited about Bryan Singer leaving the X man series to do this movie. But the problem with Superman is that everyone has their own idea about who he is. And Singer thinks of Superman as this lonely outsider that never found his place among human beings. Not too much unlike an X men character. But he's not. He's a person that represents something. He's something to aspire to. He wouldn't tell the president he'll never let the world down again, and then leave that world entirely. I honestly think Singer used this movie to work out some personal issues he had. It must have been a cathartic experience for him. But it did a disservice to the character and the movie. Routh and Spacey would have been so fun to watch. But we weren't going to get it anyway, because Singer's Superman is morally ambiguous.

@DarthVader "The problem is that you assumed his Xrays are the same as what we call Xrays on earth." Uhh, isn't that exactly why we call the thing we call Xray... Xray? Or do you think the word "Xray" means something else in Kryptonian language? And yes, if Supes used xray visions, then all the citizens would indeed receive lethal dosage of radiation. The reason they're not? Because it's comicbook. Kinda like how bullets can penetrate Flash's skin, even though Flash's body (skin + organ) can withstand the force of something several million times the speed of light. Doesn't make sense. I'm simply indicating that that's not how real Xrays work. I'm not saying it doesn't make sense in the comicbook world, since pretty much anything is possible in the comicbook world. And yes, Supes can see the entire electromagnetic spectrum. He has many many visions. I don't know what he sees in his default vision though.

Not much of a problem, but this movie looks like it's set in the 2000s when superman iv is clearly set in the 1980s, despite Lois Lane looking older in the latter.

I think Cavill had his moments in bad camera shots of his face, and Routh. Did anyone think Routh's face looked incredibly awkward in this shot?: 0:01 This was probably due to the fact that some people weren't sued to this guy not being Christopher Reeve, but in that shot, I think Routh looks terrible. May have been the lighting and shadows on his face. But I was still thinking...they decided to just leave that shot in there?

Personally, I hated Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, or at least the portrayal of Lex. If they had portrayed Lex as a real villain like in the comics, it would've been better. One of the other problems with the film was that the whole crystal in water and everything goes crazy concept was quite lame.
