Indeed, I feel like that is a more natural way to have Lois or Jimmy be useful and not just damsels all the time. Especially, without making them super powerful, good at everything, or somehow more capable than Superman 🤔.
@thewerewolff72484 ай бұрын
Superman doesn’t need leverage. He generates a thin bio aura around his body that extends to things he attempts to lift up, protecting them from the strain of real life physics. This is how he is able to do things like lift the plane mid air in the first 3 parter. Edit: essentially part of the aura’s protection allows him to lift anything in any situation as if he does have leverage even when there wouldn’t be. Edit 2: the aura is also why people aren’t harmed when he moves at super speed whilst holding them. The flash has a similar aura, generated by the speed force
@PWGregory4 ай бұрын
If Superman needed leverage he wouldn't be able to fly because he's not 'pushing' against anything. Or perhaps he's just pushing against gravity.
@TheJjcczz4 ай бұрын
@@PWGregory Yeah his ability to fly was explained as him manipulating gravity through a combination of his physiology which is designed for much higher gravity and the absorption of yellow sun rays. Which is weird because it means he should be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound even without his powers and only needs the sun to actually fly. Even though that's never been the case and losing his powers has always made him either normal human or very weak

In like 87% sure none if that touch telekinesis/ bio electric field stuff didnt exist back then. But its fun that they made cool ways to explain it
@thewerewolff72484 ай бұрын
@@ryuhitsuya21 Nope it was. The concept was first hinted at in 1986’s man of steel mini series in which Martha Kent says she noticed that clothing was was right up close against Clark’s skin never tore or got dirty, which is why she’s made his costume skin tight. The aura was then explicitly acknowledged the auras in 1993’s the adventures of superman 506 in which the scientists who created superboy explained they discovered the aura when examining superman’s body. Having had trouble replicating superman’s powers, the discovering of it allowed them to translate it into superboy’s tactical telekinesis, giving him some of superman’s powers that related to the aura or that his TK could be used To mimic, though the difference between natural aura and superboy’s artificial TK causes them act differently. (Superboy can consciously manipulate his TK to bend manipulate objects he’s touching at will) Both of these instances pre date superman TAS

In the comics Metallo always starts out with a uranium heart that needs replacing every 24 hours or so, and then upgrades to kryptonite later the very first day. Here they just gave him kryptonite from the start. Metallo also always has a crush on Lois in the comics hence the kiss. His original origin story from the comics is that he ends up in a car crash and is saved by a cybernetics specialist. His beef with Luthor comes from Luthor wanting to kill Superman himself and ripping Metallo's Kryptonite right out of his chest and then dumping his body in a warehouse. Metallo usually isn't a very sympathetic villain, modern comics tried to change that by giving him a more sympathetic childhood backstory. Here they don't try to justify Metallo's actions, they just focus on how the side effects are a fucked up punishment that don't really fit the crimes he was in jail for. As a result rather than feel bad for him you end up going "yeah he was an arms trafficker, but he didn't really deserve losing 3 of his 5 senses for that"
@chaost45444 ай бұрын
Modern live action has also made the character into a more sympathetic one. I really enjoyed the character's story arc in "Smallville".

That’s really what makes the DCAU and its approach to nuance in the villains so interesting. Some are just evil like Joker, some are tragic through being sympathetic figures, and then there’s the grey area like Metallo; while John Corben was far from a likeable person, you can feel bad in a humane way for how awful it would be to have this inflicted on him…
@dupersuper19383 ай бұрын
"Always"? He was powered by kryptonite right away in his post-crisis origin. I believe he was in his Secret Origins origin as well, which are the two most recent comic book origins.
@TheJjcczz3 ай бұрын
@@dupersuper1938 Prime Earth/New 52 didn’t give him a Kryptonite heart right away. Brainiac took over his body causing his real heart to explode but the steel soldier armour kept him alive. It wasn’t until after Corbin went into a coma after holding Brainiac off for Superman and was going to die, that Sam Lane ordered he be saved. A Kryptonite heart was then given to him because it was now the only thing compatible with the alien tech

It’s possible this episode was either written, or even animated, before that episode was. Could have had some issue or just decided to not have Lex for so many episodes in a row, so they threw in the others first. Especially considering Superman used that suit at the end of the last episode, it seems like if this one was actually written after 6 that it would have at least referenced the suit.
