Except Superman's attempt to communicate with a clearly dangerous creature that might as well be an animal because it wears no clothing, uses no tools, only hisses and instantly attacks is... to talk at it in English. @@TF2CrunchyFrog To be fair, sometimes the TONE of voice is more important than the language barrier, and he might just be assuming that the Xenomorph can hear. A nice example from the novel "Artemis Fowl": ‘I must warn you,’ said Butler, straight-faced. ‘I am armed and prepared to use deadly force if necessary.’ Holly would have groaned if she could. Banter! The human was trying to engage a troll in macho repartee! Then Captain Short realized her mistake. The words weren’t important, it was the tone he employed. Calm, soothing. Like a trainer with a spooked unicorn. ‘Step away from the female. Easy now.’ The troll ballooned its cheeks and howled. Scare tactics. Testing the waters. Butler didn’t flinch. ‘Yeah, yeah. Real scary. Now just back out of the door, and I won’t have to cut you into little pieces.’ The troll snorted, miffed by this reaction. Generally his roar sent whatever creature was facing it scurrying down the tunnel. ‘One step at a time. Nice and slow. Easy there, big fellow.’ You could almost see it in the troll’s eyes. A flicker of uncertainty. Maybe this human was … And that was when Butler struck. He danced under the tusks, hammering home a devastating uppercut with his medieval weapon. The troll staggered backwards, talons flailing wildly. But it was too late: Butler had stepped out of reach, scooting across to the other side of the corridor. Colfer, Eoin. Artemis Fowl (P.236-237). Penguin Random House Children's UK. Kindle-Version. Shame what Disney did to the source material and especially that fight.

This series feels like fanfiction, and I mean that as a complement. The references to then-current DC continuity, the deeper characterization, the thematic similarities without being overly referential, it feels like someone wrote out a whole Superman v. Aliens fanfiction and somehow got the green light to get it drawn and published.

The idea of kryptonian xenomorphs is actually super terrifying. They'd seem identical to the human born variant but would get more powerful when near a yellow star and become practically untouchable. Could be a way to make use of LexCorp's anti-Superman weaponry. Maybe the blood that dripped on Supes came from a xenomorph Kara had killed recently? She had to have already been in the area.

Batman vs Predator is already good, but it has Alfred's finest hour. The continuity drops... are actually brilliant. If someone picked this up for the Alien side of the story, they may be enticed by the drops to check out more Superman stuff. I think the reason these crossovers try to be so continuity heavy may be related to how DC was doing continuity at the time. At that point, they were very focused on keeping it all very tight, to avoid confusing one timeline with another and so on. So, I imagine they would say “here’s a non-canon comic, but it still builds off of what we’ve done.”

Decided to read the first issue when Linkara said he was doing the video, three things of note 1. The book sort of implied that the Xenomorhs would gain Kryptonian powers… and they did not, which makes the book way less fun for me. 2. This was Dan Jurgens actual attempt to bring in Supergirl and hey, it’s better than whatever the hell John Byrne did. 3. Dan Jurgens may have HATED how Superman killed the pocket universe kryptonians, but he was one of the few writers to care and to progress supermans character on it, showing again why Dan Jurgens is a good writer. He took what he considered a terrible story and worked his best way to give it pathos and drama without melodrama and didn’t just retcon it or pretend it never happened. Good on Jurgens.

The question is if he is going to do just the four cases of the original game or include Rise from the Ashes in the review? Probably the latter as most versions avaliable to the US include it but I can see him choose to not cover it as it would feel tacked on as case 4 gave a satisfying conclusion (similar to his critique about the Hobbit where the battle of the five armies felt unnecessary to him) but I can see him giving it a mention along with a brief explanation of why it isn't going to be covered and maybe including brief opinions.

Another interesting aspect is the idea of Xenomorph's born form surviving Kryptonians could potentially gain superpowers due to exposure to Earth's yellow sun (while also possibly gaining a weakness to Kryptonite, Red Sun radiation, and magic)! An interesting concept that adds another element of danger should the Kryptonian Xenomorphs make it to Earth! Super Xenomorphs also makes Superman & Supergirl being present in the story less of an issue as they would possess similar powers possibly augmented by Xenomorph biology! Xenomorphs with the power of a Kryptonian is a scary concept & Superman's rejection of lethal force creates an interesting dilemma for how to deal with the Xenomorphs & Super Xenomorphs! Then there is the prospect of Lexcorp pulling a Weyland-Yutani and trying to acquire the Super Xenomorphs thus Superman & Supergirl have to work together to keep Lex and/or his company gain ahold of them!

Wow, not only is this a weird crossover between DC Superman and the Alien franchise, but this comic makes Kryptonians look like Florida Man hillbillies in 1980s Earth clothes, gives Lois Lane the most unflattering poses to stand around (at 10:20 minutes), and gives Superman an unkempt mullet and a cape that looks like a blanket draped over his shoulders.

19:40 I think they realized this, which is why they have it all tied into Krypton in general like this. This came out before the return of Kara Zor-El in the DCU. So that's the environment it was released in: the period of time where Superman was mandated as the last Kryptonian. Given that, and the general "canon-like" vibe of the book, it feeds the viewer hope that we are finally seeing Post-Crisis Kara. Of course, part 2 destroys that and it's non-canon, but I'm not sure how clear that was at the time.

18:26 Xenomorphs inherit traits of their hosts. Which means those Kryptonian xenomorphs likely have the same solar absorption as Superman and thus, same powers (except heat vision, since, you know, no eyes). And they're headed towards Earth. And because the xenomorphs usually are fully black, they can absorb much more solar radiation. Pants to be browned for Superman Vs Aliens #2.

It still weirds me out depictions of Superman with long hair. Although this looks more like a super mullet. Faster than speeding bullet in the front, more powerful than a locomotive in the back lol

First of all: Happy to see that Superman outfit make a comeback, it's a dope look! Second: Was gonna say I'm bummed we haven't gotten to the Predator crossover yet considering how bonkers its battle with Batman was, but now I'm gonna say: schedule slippage, don't you dare ruin this for us! Then again, I suppose it's only fair to finish off the Alien stuff first. Heck, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious how a xenomorph could hurt Superman considering he's... y'know... SUPERMAN. Plus I'm always down for more Aliens. (sees a poster for AVP: Requiem) Most of the time. Third: what's scarier; the alien or Superman's mullet? YOU MAKE THE CALL!

Superman talking about how he’d never kill again got me thinking about something. Do Xenomorphs count as people?? I’ve always seen them as more animal-ish. Like the Predator, that’s definitely a person, but the Xenomorph? Just a creature!

Whats more dangerous about these Xenomorphs is if they came out of Kryptonians, if they get affected by the sun as Supes has.....it would be apocalyptic. Also cannot wait to see you cover Batman vs Predator. That's my favorite batman book!

I'm pretty sure this miniseries was meant to be in-continuity at the time. I read an interview some time ago with Dan Jurgens explaining this was his attempt at introducing a more traditional Supergirl to the post-Crisis universe, though the Matrix Supergirl was already established, so a way to carry her over into the mainline titles was never found.

On the one hand, it makes sense to de-power Supes to make the story more tense. On the other hand, tell me you wouldn't read a story about a fully-powered Superman curbstomping a xenomorph (or even several)! Like, this "ultimate life form", who is used to everything it meets either being easy prey or just slightly harder to kill, going up against a being who just no-sells everything it got. Just utterly humiliating it. Give me an exhausted xenomorph who, after like 30 minutes of failing to put even a dent on this wierd flying colorful humanoid, just stands there for like half a second and does the alien-equivalent of "Oh... crap!"

Superman killed General Zod in the second Richard Donner film, Lois Killed Ursa, and Non accidentally killed himself while attempting to fly and fell to his death. Although in Donner’s original version had them getting arrested and taken off to jail along w/Luther instead of just leaving Luther to freeze to death. What’s interesting is that in the Donner cut he spares the villains. But has Zod kill a preteen boy for running away, to which Ursa coldly states, “he would have just grown up to be a man.”

With her saying that this isn't a "M*A*S*H* Unit", my biggest shock was she wasn't Hot Lips. 😉 Also, the 1980s Supergirl movie, it's a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine, so the moment I heard Argo City, I knew where this was going. Anyways, thank you, Linkara, enjoyed the video.
