A general freight set up would have a gross weight of 80,000lbs where the steering wheels can have no more than 12000, the 8 drives have no more than 34000, and trailer tandem can have no more than 34000

guys the weigh station is to make sure you're not hauling over the legal limit. Excessive weights damage roads and are extremely dangerous, breaks don't function and an oversized load can cause a lot of destruction.

They usually weigh trucks to see if it’s over the limit for the state. If it is they’ll fine you and you have to stay there and wait to get some product removed. Or to make sure your load is evenly distributed across the axles.

The weight stations are actually to check if the trailer is overweight and the driver isn’t taking more than they say they are.

Weigh stations are to check the amount of weight on each axle so that the freight isn't over stressing the tires and highway's weight capacity. Weigh stations don't have a clue what a trucker carries unless they pull them over and check their bill of lading. This is how weigh stations work in Kansas/ Colorado/ Oklahoma.
