Things to keep in mind: 1. This road is very bumpy with frequent bottom out zones in or before turns, so the supermoto is at a huge advantage with its softer suspension setup to suck up the bumps and 15/40 gearing allowing it to maintain higher speeds. 2. The R1 can go faster...YOU CAN ALWAYS GO FASTER, but is it worth the risk of flying off the road when you bottom out while trying to brake late? Absolutely not. 3. (For the keyboard riders) Both riders in the video are "slow", so hopefully with some practice they can be as "fast" as you someday.😎 Anyway stay safe out there🛵🏍🚀

Yeah the R1 is definitely faster in the straights, but the supermoto makes up for it in the turns.

i think the r1 could've pulled the second but as he stated: One bumb in the wrong spot and you're gone. An thats not really worth it on the street

@@ruv3n406 hmm the sumo is much lighter and more flickable..but R1 has better suspension and brakes..and of course shit ton of power..sumo has torque instead which is better for lower speeds..so in the end it all comes to the rider. these guys looked like both can ride very well so it seems those machines are really on par in terms of speed on the street (with turns of course)

The other thing to consider is on the way back down the mountain a supermoto would have even more of an advantage. Being able to brake later, carry more corner speed, more agile etc due to the lower weight!

As someone with time on both styles I can say without a doubt I feel much more confident on the super moto if the road is anything other than a fast smooth track. The bike is just so much more confidence inspiring in the nasty “real life” bits like slower turns and over bumps.

A lighter bike always can carry more corner speed. More slower corners, more advantage for a lighter bike. The supermoto is much lighter then the R1. For example, on a gokart track a 20HP racing scooter can effortlessly beat a 200HP superbike into oblivion...

The people saying oh I can't believe the r1 didn't pull on the sm. Your not looking at setup. The r1 is very powerfull but still fairly heavy and needs to slowdown and lean the accelerate again. Where the super moto would be geared up to carry speed and have no real power and torque left to use he would be wound up and just reefing into corners and carrying his speed. If there were any long straights the r1 would just simply walk of into the distance.

to be fair on the really few straighter sections the R1 didnt even try to accelerate, which is a bit weird in a comparison regarding that the route favors the supermoto.

@@mvthmoto8781 he did say that the road was a bit bumpy and that limited the "safe" top speed for the r1. Is one of the nice things about sumos and duel sports is you can push hard on shifty road surfaces.

Just a few sharper turns more and the supermoto would do bye bye R1 and any other track bike 😈 Of course, the speeder will hit the straight, but the turns are a different story. Sometimes I am at home in the city on a karting track and still and still guys using ultra-modern equipment of 200 or more horsepower cannot understand that I do them as I want and I have 70KM. You can't fool the laws of physics! Added to this is the beautiful fact that when the asphalt ends, I go further into the world and they turn back 🤣

super moto corners much faster in tight turns, sports bike accelerate faster corner exits. i ride both of those stuff, so i could say. long straight out road is easily done on sports bike, but for doing tight corners, id prepare

Schönes Video. Aber das ist wie ein Vergleich von Äpfeln mit Birnen. Bei so einer Sumo ist bei ca. 150 km/h schluss. Da schaltest du bei der R1 gerade mal in den 2. Gang. So eine Sumo ist auch viel Wartungsintensiver als die R1 (Ölwechsel, Ventilspiel, Kolben usw.). Ich kenne niemanden, der bei der R1 jemals einen Kolben wechseln musste. 17 L Tank vs. 6 L. Bei annähernd gleichem Verbrauch. Also muss die Sumo 3x so viel Tankstopps einlegen. Versteht mich bitte nicht falsch. Ich liebe beide Bikes. Habe selber eine Rmz 450, eine 600er Ninja und eine SC60. Alle 3 komplett unterschiedliche Bikes mit unterschiedlicher Charakteristik (Leistungsentfaltung, Sound, Komfort).

My friend, as a rider yourself, this comparison isn't meant to be taken so literally. Most of us are aware of the many different characteristics of the two bikes, which is why there is not a single bike that can do it all. Top speed of the bikes is irrelevant on a road like this...and yes you can go 100 mph in 1st gear on a liter bike, but there is no point in stressing the engine like that. My supermoto gets about 25 mpg more than my R1 does, so fuel consumption is not the same. The point of this video is just to show that it doesn't really matter which bike is "faster", but more so how they can be equally as fun on a decent road and average the same pace when the road isn't as open. Since I am the rider in both videos I am aware of the maintenance intervals of a supermoto vs a sportbike, but they are still equally as fun to zip down the road on. Anyway stay safe out there 🏍🛵🚀
