The two oldest look sooo uncomfortable with the sudden love they get from their parents. To me it shows just how much they are being neglected, they probably only get ordered around or yelled at

exactly. You and I see the hurt in their eyes and their evasive body language but the parents are OBLIVIOUS to the pain they create in all these kids. As each next oldest kid runs away from that home -it’s the next one in line who will be yelled at…

I'm gonna be honest...it's not your oldest children's responsibility to watch the younger ones. You wanted the kids they didn't. It is your responsibility and yours only. Your oldest kids should not have to grow up fast because you can't handle your own life decisions.

The mom honestly concerns me. The fact she knew this dark secret of the husband's and knew it was due to stress of the kids, and yet she STILL didn't want to give up her dream of 12 kids? Not until jo said something to her. I mean, your dream isn't more important than the life or death of someone you love.

As the oldest, it is the responsibility to watch out for the little ones. However, it's not the oldest kids responsibility to raise the kids. I am the oldest one and I never had to do half of what these kids did thanks to the responsibility of my parents

Exactly. We have 5 kids and I made it my priority to make sure the older ones never felt like they couldn't be kids. Other than the occasional hey can you just keep an eye on the youngest while I finish dinner or I really need to use the bathroom. Typically I don't even ask for that if I can help it.

I never stated that parents are exempt from looking out for their oldest kids, I simply stated that the older sibilings should help with the younger sibilings, not only training themselves for future kids but also making their parents lives easier. I totally agree... I am the first kid and my parents used to leave me home alone with my baby sister when I was 6.... And we have other responibilities also rather than taking care of our younger siblings.... But we can definetly help our parents if they need some.

I had 10 kids plus one foster kid. My kids were always told how well mannered they were. When they were all teenagers it got wobbley from time to time but nothing major. I was blessed. ❤️

It was so heartbreaking to hear the young son and daughter talking to each other. It shows how aware the children are of how stressful their situation is and how their parents created it. “What’s going to happen when she’s gone?” 💔💔 I’m glad to see the parents seemed to want to change.

In each episode, I appreciate how Jo Frost conducts her observations on each family and then asks the children and parents open ended questions to get to the heart of what is truly going on the bad behavior of the children. Her extensive knowledge and experience of families and child development is astonishing and refreshingly honest. I especially love the table talk with the parents where Jo lays everything out in front of them uncensored while still being firm and compassionate. 🥰

I was an only child, my mother was the youngest of 11. It was awesome to have so many cousins, aunts and uncles, however in years past, it was common to have lots of children, not only due to lack of birth control, but the children were expected to help on the farm and with the younger kids. The more children, the more people to work the farm.
