Totally agree that the demons getting out wasn't their fault. Jake was the one who opened the Gates to Hell so they would have been opened if they had been there or not! They are the reason the Gates got closed again and halted the damage from being worse and stopped even more from coming through.

@@ninjanibba4259 So, if a hunter is in the vicinity of a werewolf killing people, it is that hunter's fault the first person got their heart ripped out and died? I don't think any hunter could make that accusation in good faith. All they maybe know about the start of this is that Sam was near Jake a day or two before the devil's Gates opened. It is not much to throw blame around. But I get that fear of that many demons (what did Bobby said at some point? 27 possessions was a lot in his mind, so potentially 300... Whoa!) could make people try to pin the fault on somebody they can beat up or spit on.

Dean has been subject to parentification for pretty much his whole life; his father expected him to put Sam’s life before his own and even after his father is gone, he’s still stuck in that parental role. He really doesn’t see himself as being worth much, especially compared to Sam, and he doesn’t see a future for himself outside of hunting, no matter how much he clearly wants it. It makes total sense to me that Dean would see this deal as kind of inevitable, and feel a sense of initial relief and acceptance once he knows he doesn’t have much longer to live, and that his death will be protecting Sam. Of course, that’s not to say he’s processing things in a healthy way (Dean clearly needs therapy and yet is the exact sort of person who will never allow themself to go to therapy), but it absolutely makes sense for his character.

It always irritated me that people keep blaming the boys for the gate opening - they tried to stop it, but Jake opened the gate. They just couldn't stop it. I love the way you examine the character's motivation and think about the storyline. I will say (without spoilers) Dean's self-worth is an important issue that you touched on.

Dean’s situation and attitude about it reminds me of someone with a terminal cancer diagnosis, who doesn’t want to spend their final months sick and miserable from chemo treatments that aren’t working anyway. But, like you, I can see Sam reading every book, chasing every lead to try and break Dean’s deal. And, I can identify with both of them.

I do agree that the Writer’s Strike was somewhat of a blessing: it motivated them to make every episode count, never holding anything back! It’s open season now, and the Hunters are among the hunted too! Better brace yourself Seska, the Road So Far is gonna get bumpy!

That's not true. Chuck came out of the writer's strike just fine, even though it hit during the first season. And there were definitely negative impacts to the writer's strike that rippled through SPN, particularly after season 7 when they made the mistake of replacing Gamble.

Breaking Bad can be added to the list too. Vince Gilligan had a chance to change the direction of the plot in season 1 due to the strike and it benefitted the show.

Dean does have self-worth, the problem is that his self-worth is all about how 'useful' he is to others. Protect Sam, save Sam, saving people hunting things, the family business. We saw it in "What Is..." without hunting Dean believes he'd be a drunk and a screw up. He also knows he's attractive to women, but I don't think he believes he's long term material, just good for a good time.

Hi! I would like to indicate the series "The Magicians" for your next reaction. This series is adapted from the adult novels by Lev Grossman and can be described as Harry Potter meets Chronicles of Narnia, with a healthy dose of real-world problems piled into the magical ones. In the series, we see amazing and complex characters that have incredible growth during the seasons. The series features an ensemble of potential heroes, rather than a singular protagonist, besides the show features a ton of diversity, inclusion, and equality. I truly hope you enjoy this show! Sometimes you will cry your eyes out and others laugh so hard during iconic lines such as: "Hell is real, and it smells like Axe body spray" or "Alice Has Gone Full Harry Potter Part Seven/Eight Over There".

In regards to brother v brother- naturally the fans did gravitate to being a sams girl or deans girl/ sam fan or dean fan. However now 16 yrs later as a fan i realize its really season to season. I love Dean. Ill forever be a deans girl. Sammy really got on my nerves first 5 seasons. But honestly to me sam became a much better character after season 5. Especially in last 4 seasons of show. My take on the blame game is the human tendency to look for a single scapegoat coupled with a hunters' version of the game "telephone." The hunters know they're screwed and hunting is a revenge kick, so these people aren't good at regulating information or emotions.

I always loved the little detail of the shoes being green and the saying "Green with envy" since she was touched by Envy. Isaac's death by Gluttony is the worst death and I can barely watching it. I’m 46, so yeah I was definitely around during the writers strike. Sucked. I love Bobby. Period. I forgot how graphic this one gets. Demons are nasty. To me they got tricked into going to that graveyard. They had no idea what all was going down. It was very personal for them so it’s good they weren’t alone. Thankfully Bobby and Ellen were there to put more level heads in the mix. It could have been much worse.

I'd say the fans span many age ranges and generations, for reference I myself am a 21 year old millennial and I began watching the show when it first aired in 2005 (when I was 5 years old) so I put in the full 15 years of dedication to the fandom during the runtime of the show and I've never been to one in person, unfortunately, but I watch a lot of SPN conventions and interviews etc so I see that there are fans of all ages and walks of life and I think that's a really great thing. Everyone can just come together in a way and appreciate what a masterpiece this show is, regardless of age and things like that. Your reactions are always amazing and I love your after episode reviews or ''ramblings'' as you say, keep up the great work and I'm so glad to have another addition to the SPN family!

The writer's strike introduced elements in season 4 that weren't supposed to be there and ultimately damaged the later seasons because those elements became a crutch that future showrunners insisted on falling back on rather than trying to introduce anything new. Edit: Also, no, Dean at this point has no self worth.

@@odile8701 and once that certain character and others like him were introduced, it became too easy for the later showrunners who didn't know what to do to focus on the place that character called home battling the "opposite place" instead of exploring anything new. There are entire systems of mythology that could have been explored but weren't because they kept falling back on group A and group B politicking with Earth and the Winchesters hanging in the balance.

I think they did an amazing job with those new elements back in seasons 4 and 5, but after that everything slowy started to fall apart, and I agree that those new elements are mostly to blame. Eric Kripke was truly the one and only Supernatural showrunner who handled the show they it deserved to be handled (well, he was the creator after all, so it makes sense)

You're kind of hilarious in your post episode discussions. lol The fandom crosses all demographics. Seriously. And has a worldwide fandom. The people that tend to watch Reactions videos is diverse too, but may be a smaller subset. Only a percentage are regularly active in the fandom and interacting on Social Media platforms about the show. The writer's strike did cause changes to be made, but that only affected the last few episodes. There was a time there, during the strike, that we weren't even sure it would come back at all. They had to redo how they were going to present the story arc that had originally been planned for this season. There just wasn't time to have things happen the way they had planned. I hope people don't spoil too many of the details about all of that though. It's best to find all that out after you've seen the season. If at all. I think Dean truly does feel relief. There's something definite that will happen, that he can count on. Plus, he already feels crappy about everything, and this will be a solution to that. His life kind of sucks, so why not. He's not going to have to worry about the future anymore. About Sammy. He's not going to have the weight of the world on his shoulders anymore. Doesn't matter that he shouldn't feel like it all rests on his shoulders. He just does. That's who he is. He's tired. I can relate to that. And ,I think he figures he'd be going to hell anyway, so might as well get something out of it - like bringing Sam back. They feel guilty about letting demons out, because that's who they are. They are supposed to stop things like that from happening. It's their job. They may have been able to stop it if they'd just killed Jake right away, instead of talking to him. But that's not who they are. They're not straight up murderers - Jake was human. Bobby is really stepping up for the boys. They need a father figure like him. Sam and Dean may have had a relatively isolated life up till now. Just with their dad. We don't know much about their past. I agree with you about Sam and Dean. Sam was dead, and who knows where he would really go. We think he'd obviously go to heaven, if there is one in this world. But, we also know that Dean doesn't actually believe in all of that. At least not from what he's said - season 2 ghost priest episode. So they really don't know for sure.

it wasnt their fault it all happened just that they didn't stop it MAYBE. weather the winchesters were there or not Azazel was going to have his 'hunger games' and send the winner to open the gate. without the winchesters the gate would have stayed open and even more would have escaped.
