Castiel was originally planned to die in this scene, to be replaced by Anna, but the response to Misha's performance was so overwhelming that the producers decided to keep him and kill off Anna... a lot of later episodes make more sense if you realise the dean/Cas dynamic was originally laid out for dean/Anna.

Zach Kabia that's really true. Angels had to be something "big", powerful than anything. I love Castiel, but sometimes he could use his powers like in season 4. And Lucifer? I love Lucifer and Castiel, but sometimes they could get back to their old self.

Jacob Sailer Anna was created to REPLACE Cas: I read that originally Cas was supposed to be killed by Alastair in this episode (and later during Swan Song his death was supposed to be permanent) but he was too popular with both fans and critics so they kept him. S5) Minimal powers, going off of faith, had the memory of death, had no powers by the end, blown up S6) Best powers, 2nd strongest angel, had to lead a civil war, heavy toll on his conscience, God mode S7) Taken over by leviathans, blown up, resurrected loses his memory, goes insane, purgatory S8) Abandoned his friend, saved from purgatory, mind controlled, tortured, loses his grace S9) Unknowingly casts Angels out of heaven, becomes human, homeless, burning grace, leads army S10) Almost dies from grace burning, gets a new temp grace, kept out of heaven, watches friend change He's lost himself since season five because he had a belief in God that was shattered, after season six when he became God, the stress of lying to his few friends and having to bear the burden alone without sharing the pain has taken its toll on him. He also lost his seraphim mode when metatron cast out all the angels, another thing he feels guilt for.

I've watched 8 seasons I think. I stopped , because I realized the first 5 season was complete. Adding stuff to just make more episodes is a waste of time and effort. The story was complete and needed no more. I still consider myself a fan of the show , just I belive it truly ended when the Apocalypse was averted. Dean got a happy ending , Sam got to live , Cas became a leader. Nothing more was needed.

During one of my favorite fanfictions where Dean goes back when he's 4 and relives his life to change things, killing Azazel and Lilith Uriel tricks all the hunters into assembling and tries to kill them all off to get rid of threats to his plan. However Gabriel shows up and smites Uriel after one of the humans displays inexplicable power against the angels. Cas kills another and the powered human somehow renders the other angel human and Bill Harvelle kills him with a shotgun.

Those chapters are 140-146 (its a LONG story and is not even over yet) but you'll be interested to know that the latest chapters feature Anna's return. They get warned by Pamela that Anna (who is a little girl) is under threat so Sam, Dean, Cas and their friend Scott (who's the one who removed that angel's powers, turns out he can take an angel's Grace if they are actively using it and then use it to do one thing an angel can amongst other things, damn useful ability) go to save Anna. Cas and Scott go to get her Grace while Sam and Dean go to get her. They each end up having to fight angels and in Sam and Dean's case they end up in serious trouble so they call in Cas. Eventually he and Dean manage to kill all the angels. In Scott's case after pulling Anna's Grace inside himself he faces 4 angels of his own, one of whom is the alternate timeline Castiel. He drains the Grace of two when they attack him and then shoots them (they can be killed with regular weapons at that point) and has to fight the last hand to hand as she didn't use her abilities. He's also hampered as he mastered using his powers to fight demons but not angels. Luckily Castiel saves him and kills the other angel. In the story there's a division between the angels following Michael (good guys) and Raphael (bad guys). Castiel's alliegence was unknown to them until he reveals himself to be a double agent for Michael. After the fight he alerts Michael of the threat (Raphael doesn't even suspect him ironically) who plans to send help to the Winchesters for the Anna situation. Which they need as they are stuck at Bobby's with angels coming down on them again.

That only ever happened with the angel at the begining of this episode, Uriel, Zach, Gabe and Rachel. They don't do it with the minion angels but they don't do it with the main ones either anymore: Balthazar, Raphael, Hester and Samandriel didn't get it either. Though with Sammy it was probably because he was leaning against the Impala and Dean would've killed Cas himself if he damaged it with the angel's wings.

Strange how she uses Uriel in the past to help her kill Dean and Sam's parents, yet doesn't tell him she ends up killing him later. Angels are messed up.

Actually I think he got that one from one of the dead angels Cas killed: Cas brought their blades back with him and there were two of them. Three blades were used in the episode: Cas had one, Sam had another and Dean had one too. I figure they used the dead angels blades when they killed Zachariah and tried to rescue Adam,

something isn't right. if uriel and castiel haven't met god then they shouldn't have ever met lucifer either so "you do remember him" doesn't make sense
