So I know Dean erasing Lisa & Ben’s memories is controversial, but I think it was the best thing to do for Ben’s sake. Dean was worried Ben would try to track him down or follow the hunter lifestyle. And Dean didn’t want him going down that path, biological child or not.

I feel like it was all for nothing. If the demons are out to hurt Lisa and Ben to get to Dean, they’d still go after them and kill them. Dean needs HIS memories of Lisa and Ben erased, too!

I never understood why the some of the fandom hated Lisa. I thought the relationship that Dean had with her and Ben was very well written, and I enjoyed the episodes that they were in. He truly loved them and I love to see strong female characters in this show. I was sad that they got their memories whipped because you can tell that they also really loved him.

Honestly, I just found her incredibly boring and weird simultaneously. Lisa feels written as representing an idyllic life that Dean wants but can't have, a tragedy, she even comes with a child already to make it a happy little family. But she also is a woman who immediately let's a man she hardly knows into her life, when she has a son? That to me seems so incredibly rash and impulsive, selfish even for someone to do. Get to know a guy, especially the strange, possibly dangerous drifter, make sure this is for real, before you let your kid bond with the guy. It's not like Lisa couldn't find someone else. She's a hot yoga mum with her own house already, she's a catch, yet she jumps to having Dean move in when he shows up clearly a mess on her doorstep, grieving his brother. Who brings a grieving drifter into their child's life just like that? If they had really allowed Lisa to be someone with some serious issues herself to make me understand her, I might have liked her the way I like messed up characters. But she always felt like she was supposed to be something else, all the potentially interesting parts just a by-product of jamming Dean into a situation. That's why she doesn't feel like a propor character to me, but just ends up feeling like a prop for the main character. It's fair if you feel differently, but people do have actual reasons aside from shipping and misogyny for disliking Lisa. I also couldn't find Dean having their memory wiped moving at all. Lisa and Ben were put in danger because other people knew that they mattered to Dean. That is still true after the memory-wipe, they would still make just as excellent hostages, only now they wouldn't know to look out for anything supernatural, or know how to protect themselves. If anything, they are more endanger now that before. The only change is that they won't miss Dean. It's acted as if Dean is doing something self-sacrificial to protect them, despite it being problematic by not giving them the choice, but it's undercut by the writers apparently not thinking things through, again. And that's just sad, because the idea of Dean giving up his own happiness and taking away other people's agency to protect them feels both in character to me, and is interesting! It's just a poor execution of an idea in my opinion, and it made me lose all care about it, sadly. That said, I will say I think all the actors did pretty well with that they had, no hate on them!

Yes, this was a powerful episode, so many things happened. It's all coming to a head now for Season 6. Yes, the memory erasure of Lisa and Ben was one of the saddest moments in the entire show. Dr. Visyak was one of my favorite women who appeared on this show. Wait till you see the next episode. It will set the stage for Season 7. Anyhow, I wish you a Happy Thanksgivings.

I completely understand your feelings about Alzheimer’s and dementia.. my grandmother had both and my mom and I took care of her.. she lived with us and it was so hard.. so I know how you feel.. i wouldn’t wish dealing with that on my worst enemy.. 😔🥺❤️

This definitely one of the more heartbreaking episodes. Dean did love Lisa & Ben, he just had trouble adjusting to life outside of hunting. Then he got wrapped up in something big and their was no going back. Not without letting Sam and others die.

I have a different take on Lisa.. I saw the actress in another series where she played a stronger character, I could never see Lisa, only Angie. ETA.. very strong Bobby episode.. especially with the guy who lost his mom. It's a rare moment when a guest star can drag a tear or two out.. "Nobody ever said that to me before".. *sniff*

I was really upset with Dean for this decision. Not only did he make a choice that removed a big chunk of Lisa and Ben's agency, but they're not even safer because of it. They could still be targeted, and now they have no knowledge or training to fall back on to protect themselves.

i didn't really care about Deans relationship with Lisa as much, she wasn't my fav of his women but I absolutely loved his relationship with Ben and mourned that loss. I also agree its not necessarily going to protect them in fact now they don't remember to call Dean if there is trouble they are more vulnerable. but I think he was trying to take away the trauma of him in their lives and what had happened and that's why he did it. if he had ASKED I don't think they would have chosen that, especially not Ben but he didn't. But Dean believes that he's brought nothing but trouble to them and he doesn't want them to take these new memories with them so I get that part but I just don't agree that was the best course of action. He is likely the only father Ben will actually have as he is getting older and say his mom marries someone else 5 years down the line well Ben will see him as a stepdad but not a dad like he sees Dean and even though this eventually brought this much trouble to their door I don't think Ben would ever wish away the memories of having a dad for once even if it didn't last. I am not one of the people that think that Ben is biologically Deans but as this show tells us family done end in blood and where it counts Dean is his father. So anyway that part kills me.

Good penultimate episode, and the season finale is a blast. My only in this episode that they left a sloppy ending for Lisa and Ben. I would suck to lose important memories because someone want you to. They played an important part Dean's story overall and kind of bummed how it ended them.

I still believe that Ben is Dean's kid. The ending of the Ben & Lisa story arc makes no sense though. I get that Dean saw himself becoming like John had been, and hated being like that with Ben. But wiping Ben & Lisa's memories leaves them less safe, not more! 🖖

Ben is definitely not Dean's son. If he were, then Lisa lied to her son for a year when his father was living in the same house. There is no motive for that kind of betrayal.

She could have told Ben that because, though she wanted it to work with Dean, once Sam was back in the picture she knew it was doomed ("could" is a supposition too). 🖖

While I do think Castiel loves Sam and Dean, he's still a "multidimensional wavelength of celestial intent," whose perception of reality is so far beyond theirs that the character is unable to see them as equals. And I feel that's a trend for the character starting in season 4 and really made more and more prevalent during this season where the response to someone threatening to kill Sam and Dean is regularly, "I'll just bring them back." For Castiel the boys have become more akin to his pets.

I've never been comfortable with this decision by Dean. Very Journey's End. I think 'let it bleed' refers to Dean allowing his emotional wounds to fester by cutting out Lisa and Ben. Characteristically unhealthy, which is a shame because I relate to him the most.

Here is my two cents he did not wipe his memory he wipe him from out of their memories, after him watching Ben taking a life do you know how much trauma Ben would have to go through, I understand safety wise the writers don't make sense with it when it comes to how is that going to protect them like did they put a protection spell on them.

While Crowley is the only one who knows how important they are to Dean, that won't do anything to stop him or any potential future enemies from threatening Dean again with killing them if he gets in his way. The only way that tactic would work is if Cas also wiped Dean's memories of Lisa and Ben, permanently destroying any link between them and Dean.

I really don't like the Lisa and Ben resolution because it's kinda poorly thought out IMO, both by the writers, and Dean himself. Just because their memories of Dean are gone doesn't mean that the same can be said for Dean's enemies. There's still a number of people that can target them, only now, they don't have any of the knowledge they would need to fight off any supernatural attackers or know to call Dean if something like this happens again. I like this season overall, but the way this plot thread was tied up really bothers me, and not just because I feel like writing off Lisa and Ben like this squanders their potential as characters. Edit: I think the people whom don't like Lisa don't like her because it kinda doesn't make much sense that SHE was the woman Dean returned to at the end of Season 5. Earlier in the show, we were introduced to another character in the episode with the racist truck who was established as "The love of Dean's life", because she's the only woman Dean was ever honest about being a hunter with. Whereas with Lisa, she was originally a booty call that Dean came back to only to discover that he might've had a kid with her, but she later denied this. So it's really odd that Lisa was the one Dean chose to return to after thinking he lost Sam.

I didn't like Lisa because of her attitude towards Sam. The year that he died and Dean was in misery about it, was "the best year of her life". She thought that Sam should've stayed dead, and that Dean would never be happy if Sam was in his life. The memory wipe makes Lisa even more vulnerable to monsters and bad things happening to her and Ben, and they won't be able to call Dean for help. Also, it makes no sense. Other people remember that Dean was in her life, plus she probably has pictures of him or other things to remember him by. Sam and Dean already knew that bad things happen to people who get close to them, so Dean and Lisa was never a good idea.

I'm really struggling to understand Lisa. This deeply grieving mess, a drifter leading a dangerous life, a guy you hardly know, shows up on your doorstep, and you immediately have him move in, despite the fact that you have a child to think of. Imagine being Ben, just one day having to have this grieving near-stranger in your home every day. And how do you even trust that this is for real with such a guy, and not just him acting out of immediate grief? How can you trust so quickly that the won't just go back to the life he had before once the worst of the grief-fog passes? And even if you do, don't you want to vet the guy before making him a step-dad to you kid? You know, make sure he wouldn't be an awful influence on your child? If a year dealing with all of that was the "best year of your life", hot yoga mum with a sweet kid and her own home in a white picket fence neighbourhood, then what is wrong with Lisa's life? Why is she so unhappy? Do we ever get a clue to that?

@@ancatdal It was all a lot of plot convenience. Sam sends Dean to live with Lisa, who just happens to be "free" with no boyfriend at the time and she just lets him in to live with her. So she doesn't hesitate, even though it would've logical for her to do so. It being the "best year of her life" had to do with finding a father figure for Ben. I think she was pretty much happy before Dean showed up, and afterwards it was all about having an instant dad for her son.

@@caseyanne967 I think Lisa COULD make sense, if she was allowed to be more of a mess. If she was someone craving an emotional high from romantic and/or sexual relationships. Someone falling fast in and out of love. Someone drawn to the ideas of relationships rather than the reality of them. Someone who struggles to maintain relationships because they turn "boring", but at the same time, she has had a kid now, so she feels she kinda has to find a long-term partner. Then when Dean turns up, Lisa envisions a romantic scenario; she will fix this broken man who has just enough mystery and danger about him to be interesting to her, and enough sweetness to be a dad, and it won't be turn boring and stale because Dean is so different. Only Dean WANTS stale and boring, that's what he promised he would seek out, the ideal apple pie life of peace and conformity. THAT would be interesting to me, and make more sense for what happens; two messed up people with many unresolved issues seeking something different and opposing in each other, in a way where they both have expectations they don't communicate, they just assume that's what the relationship would give them, leading both to be unsatisfied. But Lisa ACTUALLY being what Dean seeks is absolutely non-sensical. The Apple Pie Life Woman, hot family-focused yoga mum with her own home in pleasant neighbourhood, wouldn't be single AND instantly ready take in a near stranger to play dad to her kid. That's the act of a delightfully deranged and impulsive woman who is single for a reason, and I would have loved to have seen that woman.

​@@ancatdal Dean saved Ben back in season 2 and I think that this is a basis for the trust that Lisa has in Dean, even though she doesn't know him very well. She is all about her son and so she dives in to having a relationship with Dean, even though it's not very realistic. Yes, it would've been interesting if Lisa had more issues. Instead, she's mostly there to support Dean's storyline instead of being a character they were interested in exploring.

I think I could see how some writers might think that would be enough, Dean proved he'd risk his own life to save her kid, why should she not trust him to be a parent for her kid? It's obviously not enough, but I can see why someone would think it would be.
