Cas didn't tell Dean the truth because then he would have to reveal that they went behind his back and broke Metatron out of heaven jail using Bobby, and that's a whole other can of worms.

Bringing out that leaded box isnt really a story convenience. As I recall, when the Bunker was still a new discovery for the brothers, we saw Dean digging around a storage room, opening various boxes like this with both religious and magical items inside them. One of those was the key to open the door to Oz, another was the Spear of Destiny.

Dean throwing what Sam said last season is long overdue. I’m surprised he didn’t say it when he was a demon. It always bothered me that the brothers didn’t talk about their fight from last season, about what Dean did and what Sam said, it felt too easily resolved and everything just became about the Mark and Dean’s time as a demon

Yeah, I feel the same way too. I hate that they just swept that whole argument under the rug and we never got clarification or resolution from that argument. And sadly for Sam, we all know that Sam said some things last season to Dean that he really didn’t mean to say and the way that he was acting forwards Dean about them not being brothers anymore. But in Dean’s defense, how is he supposed to know that? Sam never really made that clear that he didn’t mean the things that he said. And I know that Sam only said those things because he was hurt, and he wanted to hurt Dean the way that Dean hurt Sam. I get that. Brothers are going to fight, disagree, and argue. That’s just what brothers and siblings do. But at the same time, Sam knows that Dean was going to take that personally. He already felt bad and guilty for what he did to Sam, so why do you have to twist the knife, and say those hurtful things to him to make him feel even more guilty and upset? So, unfortunately, as much as Sam says, he didn’t mean the things that he said to Dean, Dean is never gonna forget what he said. Because sometimes words speak louder than actions. And I know that Sam is trying to make up for that by doing everything in is power to remove the Mark of Cain off of Dean’s arm and everything else, that’s going on. unfortunately that won’t take back what Sam said to his brother last season. So he knows that he’s gonna have to live with that for the rest of his life. And sometimes, you just need to watch what you say to your loved ones, even when your furious and upset with them because, you never know what could happen the next day and you won’t be able to apologize or reconcile with them.

I always views Sam arc this season as the writers getting season 3 sone right. For those who don’t know Dean wasn’t supposed to go to hell Sam was supposed to save him but he would’ve had to cross a serious line and possibly go dark, but due to the strike that didn’t happen which is a shame because there was so much build up with no pay off. Yeah back then we saw signs that Sam would do anything to save Dean, but aside from that fake time jump in mystery we didn’t see him cross any lines. Yeah he considered using a Frankenstein monster to save Dean but that was brief, plus they acted like him killing a crossroads demon was the first sign of him going dark even though they kill demons all the time.
