@jonathanhenderson94224 жыл бұрын
@@B3tabyt3 I'm an atheist. I don't doubt religious believers when they say they were once skeptics, but I'd doubt anyone who claimed they were skeptical for sound epistemic reasons (which most don't claim). Most people who aren't raised to believe are just "skeptical" because they haven't experienced anything they'd categorize as supernatural/religious, and then they have some profound personal experience they can't explain naturally and that convinces them to believe. That's an extremely shallow form of skepticism, and is nothing like the disciplined, rigorous, learned skepticism of atheists who've thought about these epistemic issues philosophically. I don't think there's an analog to religious belief. Everyone who is religious is so because they believe there's a God/supernatural element behind life and/or their personal experiences, and whether they believe that because they were raised to believe that, or because they had some experience that lead them to believe that, doesn't make much difference.

This is simply because the modern definition of atheism only came about within the last 150, or so, years. The whole concept of the Universe having a natural explanation arose with the advancement of science, which started in the late 1800's. Before then, an atheist was simply someone who didn't believe in a particular god, for example; a muslim was an "atheist" from a christian's perspective.

I know it's super uncomfortable to entertain that idea, and I am certainly not making any definitive claims, and Freud was a cocaine addict for many years who got a lot of things wrong. The non-believer went to church and started to talk to the pastor.. ok. That’s normal non-believers behavior .

It takes some hubris to call the show and pronounce you have evidence of a god. This guy just wanted to give his testimony, which was very long, wandering and tiresome. I agree he will have spoken of this previously, but in the company of believers who moaned amens and confirming bleats. I suppose, standing with those affirming murmurations could make someone think their 'story' has some value as 'evidence', or holds some persuasive power. It simply doesn't. Its a sad reflection on people just how low they set the bar when considering something worthy of the title evidence and unfortunately we see the results of that throughout the world again and again. Quite depressing to hear 'testimony' in that context.

After watching loads of these clips one thing that stands out among almost every theist caller is that when a question is asked of them, their reply is almost never a response to the question. It’s either some deepity dressed up in flowery language that is void of any actual content, or, and this is more common, they avoid the question completely and ramble about something unrelated in hopes that it will distract the host from the topic at hand. Once you notice it you can’t unsee it, and it starts to get frustrating.

If what we just heard from Lloyd is his version of a "better man", then I'm really glad we didn't have to hear from him before he hit that very low mark. Because Lloyd isn't the sharpest tool on the workbench and it sounds like his fantasy deity wasn't working with very good material.

"I come here every week"??? To be a non-believer he sure went to Church more often than many believers. I wonder if he also visited Synagogues and Mosques and Hindu temples every week and asked for advice there too... we'll never know 😜

“I watched too much porn, I knew it was ruining my life, so I made a change, but that was actually God!” When I accidentally put salt on my pancakes and I take a bite, I know then that it’s disgusting, so I spit it out. Is that God too? How about when I cried myself to sleep because of the fear of hell that was ruining my life? When I gave up the belief in gods and afterlives, was that God too?!?

I had a supernatural experience once, too. I drank a lot and then passed out. When I regained consciousness, I was naked. Boom. God! I mean I had clothes on before & then the miracle happened. What else could it be? Thanks and praise be to one who removed my garments. I wonder how hard that was for Him. Man his power knows no bounds.
