You really gotta admire Coppola's willingness to grab a paycheck. He moved the intro credits to the end, added a 2nd zero G sex scene, removed the cool mutant kid who was a giant fetus-thing, and moved some scenes to after the jump so things make no damn sense.

I think its funny how the one thing I really like about this movie is that theme that plays when James and Angela are drinking the pear brandy (and the zero-g bumping of uglies afterwards) but no one has that exact theme as an isolated track, not even the soundtrack itself. It's such a smooth, almost sultry track that I desperately wish I had.

It’s actually a great film. Every time I see it it gets better. Spader was already massive so that’s bs and Angela Bassett’s character wasn’t a former addict. It was her ex boyfriend who came on board who had been the addict, he was violent, hence she hated Spader’s character so much at the start after finding out he was a former addict!

Its a terrible film. I like all the actors but, TERRIBLE.
@flyingteeshirts
@flyingteeshirts Жыл бұрын
It's pretty bad. I felt like the camera was always way to close to people and it was always at weird angles. There wasn't really a chance to just let the set and place breathe or even let the characters be in the setting. The plot really fell apart and the bad guy goes from toying with people setting up a subtle betrayal/attack to just icing everyone. A lot of aspects of the characters are set up then killed before there's any pay off. The AI becoming self-aware is just dropped when it's becoming relevant. The guy staring at the alien artefact is just killed. He's not turned evil or mutated or anything, just beat up randomly and thrown out an airlock. The ending is an absolute disaster with so many loose threads. Like, the supernova that will apparently strike earth in 50 years they caused, or like wtf is with the random announcement that she's pregnant at the end. The two people in the pod was cool-ish but looked really goofy with both of them getting a bright blue contact lens in one eye. Like, it's meant to represent that they got one of each other's eyes but neither of them had blue eyes lol. It's a fascinating film but also incredibly bad. Lots of random sex in zero G, like that scene with the pear brandy right after the dimension jump that crippled the ship and killed the captain. Like, it felt like it was a scene that was way out of place, but then it was apparently needed because of the whole bad guy is her former lover angle... Terrible plot design lol. The film is a testament to the fact that movies are miracles (it's a miracle it was ever released) and what can go wrong in film-making. There's a lot of cool ideas in the film, but the execution was terrible

@@zacharyjochumsen9677when you listen to the Commentary for Sunshine they were limited by both time and a lower budget than most Sci-Fi movies at the time. Danny Boyle said that it was his first proper Science Fiction movie and he was nervous about the special effects, which he had to wait for before starting to cut the film, hoping they would turn out okay, if not then it would even longer to get them redone. It did make its money back on home media, but had a bad time at the box office.

This is one of two films I remember reading about in the early 90's, in either Fangoria or Cinefantastique, under their original titles (Dead Star) with their original directors and concepts intact, and thinking "that sounds pretty cool actually," then never hearing anything about them again for several years. The other one was Richard Stanley's famously doomed remake of The Island of Dr Moreau (1996).

It’s a shame what happened because you could see the potential there - especially with the whole notion of extradimensional matter being placed as a kind of civilisation bomb. Not something you often see in scifi and certainly much better than the “portal to hell” idea, which frankly had just been done in Event Horizon

I remember catching this on cable a few years back and being curious enough at the beginning that I wound up sitting through the entire thing really hoping that there would eventually be a good payoff to the plot or at least start to make a bit more sense. Between the somewhat decent (for its time) visuals and the amount of talent in the cast, this easily could have been a respectable film in the sci-fi genre, but it seemed like they just didn't want to take the time to improve the script and settled for a generic psycho/slasher movie set in space. Always felt like a lot of squandered potential with this one.

Lol it is literally only 90 minutes. But it’s true- the actuon scenes are truly awful and feel like the go for an interminable amount of time. Also have to love little vignettes like the captain at the start watching Tom and Jerry whilst taking an audio log in which he describes it as an emotional outlet for the 20th century before violent cartoons were banned in the 21st century. I’m guessing they were never show 80s ultra violent anime if that was their bar - let alone the violence in modern animated series 😂.

This movieis strangely fascinating to me. The effects and sets are pretty good and have a unique look to them, the characters honestly all have good setups, and the concept of the ninth-dimensional bomb and its evolutionary effects is remarkably pulpy for a film that takes itself so seriously. It's just the editing and script that completely fall apart in the second half. MGM might as well have caved to another 5 million. With someone at the helm to put the film back on the rails, they might have at least broke even.

Tbf it’s not exactly nuclear fission. It’s a simple premise to hatch from the pop culture consciousness of the late 80’s and early 90’s. They just replaced aliens with demons. Shit, as a game premise alone there’s countless iterations on it. Fucking Dead Space is this - in a nutshell. No concept is truly original. Just have to put a novel twist on things. Fucking Halo, too come to think of it. It’s all just Doom - and it’s only Doom because they were the first to take from film and literature and make it playable. System Shock. Marathon. Icky things in space never gets old, no matter the medium.

You know a movie is bad when they get their director and editor to walk away ... oh, and the editor was FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA

AB’s character in this movie was not a Hazen addict-Carl Larson was. That detail you can’t get wrong. Especially since it is implied that he was abusive and that led to the Dr. Evers character losing her baby and leaving him.

New Line Cinema gave Jack Sholder who had just completed A Nightmare On Elm street Part 2 the job of re-editing Dario Argento's Phenomena into what became Creepers.

I don't even remember if I watched this movie :-o . . . . . . No wait (now at the end of the video) now I remember, I watched it! I remember liking the end when they (last two survivors) had to go into a pod for only one person but they both went in. Well I guess, at least the End is ok ;-)

When I saw this with my friends in high school we laughed our asses off, this movie is far below the dungeons and dragons movie , the girl straight up sleeps with ( every ) crew member except the ( robot ) , also does any of this plot sound like event horizon .

Yes indeed. Sci-fi/horror are my favourite films. This particular film, didn't do much for me though. The other one, (that it reminds me of and came earlier...) titled, Event Horizon is much, MUCH BETTER!!!! I still enjoy watching that particular film! It's exciting and it's terrifying, it's got great special effects...I could go on...Event Horizon is incredibly watchable and captivating! This one? Supernova? Not so much. In fact, I've tried to watch it twice now and I just can't bring myself to finish it. It's boring.

I watched this at home and though I can’t remember the movie as a whole, I remember the feeling I felt when the movie was over and I felt so disappointed. I remember feeling like the movie was super lame.

I saw this in the theater when it came out. I remember nothing about it except that James Spader and Angela Bassett have sex while the Supernova explodes, which somehow mixes their DNA together. What was more memorable about my experience was that I bought a big garlic pickle at the concession stand, and it was so gross, I left the half-eaten pickle in its open bag of juices in the popcorn box on the floor. I felt a little bad about making the poor slob who had to clean the floors deal with it, but my guilt was assuaged by the fact that they sold it to me in the first place.

Loved the vid, guys, but you forgot to mention the original concept of this film seems to have turned into the now cult classic Event Horizon (which you might wanna cover later). Also, please consider all the factual errors pointed in the comments. Thanx!!!
