Correction: Paramount and Plan B secured the rights to the title of a Max Brooks book and threw the story away.

This was the first movie I heavily followed the production for as a kid. I was obsessed with the source material and a bit disappointed with the final product. All they had to do was make a Ken Burns-style documentary and they would have been perfect. Hell, they could have still cast Brad Pitt as the lead and it would have worked.

I love zombie movies, when i heard there will be a movie about world war z (my favorite book) i was so exited...and then the movie was a mess Great video
@YoDz-1173 жыл бұрын
The biggest issue with the movie I had was the director holding your hand to show you how the main character learned about the zombies. Like the counting time till turning and such. Felt it should have been a little more subtle
@Sonofdonald20243 жыл бұрын
The audiobook of world war z was brilliant. puts the movie to shame. as everyone has pointed out movie bore no resemblance to the book. the movie had a good box office because people went to see it hoping it would be a good adaption of the book
@thelittlebosniaexperience81814 жыл бұрын
I don't care how much you like the movie on its own, it is the single biggest middle finger to the source material since Dragonball Evolution. The book spends a considerable amount of lines explaining how fast zombies are impossible and stupid.....what kind of zombies did they choose to use?
@dnysgrl224 жыл бұрын
100% my friend. Even I Am Legend followed its source material more, and it had a different location, backstory, disease story, post-event story, dog story, and ending.
@batesBeckham2 жыл бұрын
its probably because slow moving zombies can take over countries. The source material is extremely flawed as slow shambling morons will not defeat first world militaries. Thats why the walking dead and damn near every other slow walking zombie film never shows the outbreak. Because tactically, it cant happen. Its beyond suspension of disbelief. Thats why movies/shows, start after the outbreaks because theres no way to show slow zombies beating tanks etc... Slow moving zombies are only good in rural country sides with no phones and a single house with 5 occupants boarding windows.

The expectation for a on screen adaption of the awesome book. But they failed at that about as much as possible.

BOOK'S format is unfilmable as direct adaptation; perhaps Netflix SERIES etc but 2 hours? no way.

@@1badjesus We've had longer movies, look at End Game for an example. I'm sure they could have come in under 3 hours and with the fan base made money or they could have split it into 2 movies.

I don't mind the idea of exploring another aspect of the zombie-genre, or seeing it from another point of view, but think the"Bourne Identity"-approach was probably a bad direction to take it.

I remember when I heard about this movie being made. I was a huge fan of the novel at the time and was really excited to see that amazing story adapted to film. I had heard about the production issues but hey... as long as the story I loved made it onto the big screen faithfully I didn’t care. Then I started to see trailers, trailers that were filled with action. Even at the time I tried to convince myself they were just filling the trailers with the few action pieces from the novel and the movie would still have the framing of interviews from people who lived through a zombie apocalypse. Sadly it wasn’t, World War Z just took the name and the most basic elements from the novel, it truly was World War Z in name only. Now had it been a slower paced political drama with zombies like the novel would it have had the same success as the final product? Probably not. I get that the horror action genre is an easier sell with a larger demographic but if it had no intention to follow the novel it just feels like a bait-and-switch to just use the name alone.

Yeah... the Asian market... they really love trash like this. I don't think that the movie would have a chance on western markets alone. And the PG13... yeah, fnck that. This was like a guarantee that this Film would be bad. The book is about serious stuff. You can't make aa faithful adaptation and give it a PG13.
@Runningdeering3 жыл бұрын
I feel the same way. For the longest time I stubbornly called it Untitled Zombie Movie because it had almost no connection to the source material besides the name. I still think they could have made Max Brooks’ vision into something for the screen but at this point the zombie genre is overdone, so maybe it’s best to let it rest as just a fantastic read.
@xspendable14 жыл бұрын
I generally don't comment on the actors (because they're douchebags mostly...mostly) but for this movie, Pitt saved it, being so far off the source material, he really made it worth a watch with his portrayal of Lane.

Also, this movie is PG-13 for profit. They didn’t want to make an R-rated film when _The Walking Dead,_ a basic cable TV show was more violent.

You know. I hated World war Z. I loved the book. Normally I can separate media, I know you can't put a book on screen, its logistically impossible, and when they attempt it people complain it didn't change enough to draw them in. Its a loose loose attempt to even try it. I went to the MLP movie, Equestria girls then did WWZ as a double feature. The MLP movie got a stading ovation. When WWZ let out the crowd was quiet, no one was excited, I started talking to people in the hall who had just seen it, telling them about the book and stories from it and they were just so enthralled, while I was talking to a couple I noticed that I had gathered a small crowd while talking about the Russian decimation and the battle of Yonkers. Then they kinda got upset that the story I was spinning, from the book was better than what was shown to them. So.... yeah. Its bad.

I still haven't seen this movie, having read the book and loving it and seeing that it isn't following the format of the book made me lose interest. I don't see why they couldnt have it made like the book, you could have even made it into 2 movies or more.

"too reliant on Hollywood-driven spectacle". LOL that's the ONLY reason folks came out to see this mess. I hope someone with real vision shoots as a miniseries that actually follows the book: each episode focuses on a different character in a different location across the globe instead of a middling protagonist that can somehow survive (with his family) various zombie hoards, military wars, plane crashes, and still keep his fabulous blonde locks flowing whilst getting life-saving medicine for his kid.

@@AshCampbell2206 Call it how ever you want, this was a really disrespectful handling with a book that deserves more, much more. Rich man buys the rights to a book for a mature audience because he wanna make a Zombie film his kids are able to watch?!? WtF?🤦♂️ This is the worst reason ever... If we allow people to use culture in this way we are fnckəd! Imagine a Millionaire buys the rights for RDR2, The last of us or The Witcher to butcher it in this way like it just happened with stephen Kings The Dark Tower. They butchered it to make it PG13. So, call it how you want, it's a very bad thing for culture. And yes, video games, Zombie themed books and even Stephen King books are culture.

World war z made a ton of money proving you do not have to be faithful to the source material to be profitable if it’s obscure enough. World war z did that an almost no one complained except Alex joseky host of sadly now discounted podcast radio drone. We can’t make the zombie war already over have the whole movie be some guy interviewing survivors and victims of the zombie war that won’t be a finical success .
