Just a quick tip to remember. Any item with markings crossing out the brand like the colored pencils you have, almost always come from the dumpster. Stores have to “destroy” trash items or mark out the package/brand to prevent resell. The person you bought the colored pencils from on Amazon, most likely work at target and “damaged” the packages in a way that can resell later after they sneak them out the trash. Illegal and kinda 🤢

Oof im surprised that you gave the watercolours a 3/5. That “dust” is the chalkiness of the paint. The reason is that it is mostly filler rather than pigment. If you want to get into watercolour DO NOT buy these kinds of watercolours. Maybe for your kids but even that’s a stretch. @@Littlewings1211 probably misleading on purpose, even the photo's since i know tiny sketchbooks like that exist. but we were trying to make a positive out of a negative of the situation. so if you knew beforehand it was gonna be that small but bought it anyway. i saw the size in the video and thought "oh hey this might be a good size for a child."
@Littlewings12113 жыл бұрын
@@ghoulchan7525 I never said anything negative, I wondered whether it could be a typo, which is actually giving the benefit of the doubt and being positive rather than assuming the negative that the listing was deliberately misleading. The images could just be generic ones they have taken off the Internet showing a clear acrylic palette because they don't want to/can't set up and take their own photos of the item (a lot of listings do this to save time or because they don't have the skills to do it themselves). I also continued to find a positive alternative use for it by reiterating the comment from the other reviewer who said that they bought it to use as a makeup palette, although I wonder if they bought it thinking that they were buying a 17" palette for mixing makeup on? Either way I said nothing negative at all.

That argument is so weak. If they don't have access to a Target, they'll have a similar (or better) item nearby. Like Walmart or Dollar General. Or any number of local shops. Most of the time, if they don't have it available, you probably don't need it.
@CrystalDragen3 жыл бұрын
@@chatboulon743 It honestly depends where you live. I've been to towns where their "local shops" were essentially a half baked grocery store inside a gas station with just the basics regarding art supplies(notebooks/pens/pencils), a supply store, and 1-3 bars. The closest walmart was a 1-2 hour drive, and just to get to school was a 30-45 minute bus drive to a different county(if you're lucky). This is especially true in farm areas. Its more time/cost effective to just find some art/school supplies for your kids online have them shipped to your house. Not to mention these areas don't have any public transport, so buying online is how most people make do. As to the ethics of reselling, it depends. If they're like the people who bought a shit ton of cleaning products or gaming consoles to cause a shortage and then upcharging people by $50-$300 they're trash. If its an item that theres multiple options to buy at an affordable price, then its fine.

That was my first watercolor set, it was kinda bad, but in the end I learned to deal with it and even made some artworks I liked. Still, after a few months I bought 16 full pan set of Sonnet and then expanded it with some White Nights and Roman Szmal paints

Don't feel bad. I'd rather start with cheap, crappy supplies to work on my technique than waste hundreds of dollars to "get good" on quality product.

Really fun video!! I only read through a few comments so I don't know if someone already mentioned this but I think the flaky stuff you had on the small brush is probably watered down animal glue that brush makers use to keep hairs neatly in shape before the first use. I live in Japan and all Japanese calligraphy brushes are shaped with thin glue for visual purposes. After you use the brush the glue dissolves and the hairs spread out when dry.

The two dislikes are the people who bought stuff from Target , and selling it on Amazon for double the price.

I actually love the pallette, I use small amounts of paint so it would be so useful to me. They seller should've just marketed it as a mini pallette though lol

I've become a little obsessed with Rae lol, I will go on KZbin at night to look up a tutorial on something completely different and instead I end up watching her videos and oops it's 4am. I find them so relaxing and interesting, I'm always like just one more, just one more.... New rule, no going on KZbin before bed. 🤣

Any tips for coloring with colored pencils
@zenandfun3 жыл бұрын
Sure! (IDK if you were asking Rae or anyone here but still) move your pencils in a circular motion for blending, make sure you erase the lines before you color over them (so they don't show), layer them very lightly so you can erase it, and if you want to do very fine details, take a toothpick, scratch our your details on the paper, and then color over them.

This goes for any medium: Make mistakes. Don't be afraid if it's not perfect. If you don't like it now, put it away for a few days then come back to it. And, most importantly, have fun. ❤

Considering what you were working with, you still managed to make something that wasn’t completely awful - but - in the hands of a total beginner, I think they would really struggle.

The stiff stuff in the fine line brush is soap. You do this after washing your brushes after a project. It saves your brush from getting all “out of shape.”

I liked the end where you used all the art supplies at once! You used the watercolors and colored pencils in the art journal and used the clear palette 🎨

I love your videos! And your makeup is always just *chef's kiss*. How about the best rated supplies that are under, IDK, $5? Or maybe the worst rated items over, say, $25? 🤔 Not necessarily from Amazon, any store or site would be interesting. 😊

About the packaging immediately breaking off of the watercolor, I had one that's similar and so you can use it as a palette :)

I'd recommend reporting that seller to Target, as well as Amazon. That's theft. 99% guarentee 1 of 3 things happened: 1. the colored pencils were damaged off in stock, and an employee "tossed them out" 2. they were a return, and either written off/damaged out and pocketed, or the customer got an exchange and the employee took the pencils. 3. Just straight up the employee took them. All 3 of those, without explicit company permission, is theft, and 95% of the time, the defective/damaged product is returned to the manufacturer for recycling (they can strip the paint off the outside and re-use the wood by shaving it down and incorporating it into other things like the packaging, or even the leads (as some places use a super thin wood-based glue to hold the lead in the pencil) So please tell me you reported them.

10:05 I wonder if it's glue. I don't remember where but I have this memory of glue being used on brushes so they keep their shape? foggy memory though.

TEA: I worked at a Goodwill for 3 years. GW buys overstock hauls from Target, Sharpies out the name brand, and resells them at a price cut. Whoever is selling these Up & Up pencils via Amazon probably brought them from a Goodwill (or some other outlet location) for 99cents a box, if not less!
@splendidcolors11 ай бұрын
The Goodwill in Sunnyvale sells stuff the local Target couldn't sell on clearance, leaves the tags on with all the markdowns, and tries to charge the full original retail price. Example: hipster vase for $9.99, marked down multiple times to $2.49 and still didn't sell--and Goodwill's label said $9.99. Whyyyyy? If Target couldn't sell it for full price, why would people shopping at a thrift store who are looking for cheap bargains want to pay the original Target price?

Old video but that gunk on the brush is just glue. Either that one has too much, or the other too little. It's to protect the bristles in shipping. Most brands do it, which is why you should always give a new brush a quick little wash, hopefully in warm or hot water. It only takes about 10-30s of washing.
