Did you know that the original painter started the face by layering all sorts of colors like purples and such. I learned this from a gal who owned an art studio that I took lessons with. I thought she was crazy to put all these wild colors in at first but her reasoning was this particular painter loved to add lots of layers of strange colors to get the actual color to begin with. Also the look on her face is because he was kind of a creep and had a crush on her and he used his wife’s earring to pierce her ear with. He was in love with her and she needed the money he paid her to pose for him. Anyways I’m sure you know all about this but I just wanted to share what I had learned with ya. Love your videos. Also wanted to tell you I absolutely love your makeup when you went to the dollar store

Just came across your channel, I wanna say I love the thriftyness, I constantly dumpster dive after first semester at local art collage, (all the animators and sculptors that have to take core freshman classes toss their freshman starter kits, I usually end up with a billion brushes and portfolio bags (cheapies) but if you find the right dumpster there is always that rich freshman who, even though they are interior design and will never touch a paintbrush again will have insisted on the top of the line markers, pencils, brushes, etc..(I once found a box with a set of 3 Sable tail brushes never used, I was van living at the time so I sold them, I'm fine with my synthetic rabbit hair, but since college I've found a lot of ways to recreate the quality stuff on a budget, the makeup brushes are an awesome share, no one should spend crazy amount for a watercolor bulb when a cheap blush brush will work..since you found the cornstarch and the affect it has on cheap paints, you might have realized that there are other household items that change your paints thickness and luster, not to mention the different sealers, epoxies, polys, to finish a work with.. I like egg yolk, there was a rumor that Norman Rockwell used eggs to create a glow halo effect on his figures, when you see what the yolk does to dried paint it becomes part of your final repetoire.. I used to teach at paint and drink bars, and when the pandemic hit we shut down, since then I'm all about making art for no money... if you are interested in doing a show on "free art" I would suggest charcoal and paper,.. different woods to burn to make different charcoal, and a quick visit to a recycling plant will yield a tonne, literally, of cardboard and paper, you already know about sanding down shiny paper to give it tooth, it might not be us your alley, but if you are interested I will send you my notes on wood types, making charcoal ink, making brushes and dip pens from aluminum cans, (I don't post videos, ever, so I'm happy to pass along the info to so.eone who might use it)

If you have tupperware lids that don't match a container, those lids make great palettes in a pinch. Life hack I learned from my mom. We always had rogue lids, so she'd collect them and use them as palettes. Awesome rendition of "Girl With The Pearl Earring" by the way!

I love that you show this kind of video I'm just starting to get into painting, and it's nice to hear a real artist tell you that you don't have to spend a lot of money to get started. I also think it helps to hear and see what to look out for when buying items on the cheap.

I just found your channel pop up in my recommendation and it's the best thing that happened to me! I used to love to draw and paint so much when i was a kid (i'm in my 40s now) but my parents couldn't afford to buy most art supplies for us no matter the expensive or inexpensive ones because we had little money and to be creative and art was not as important as the food on our table or school books and supplies but did i care not, i could use anything i had to draw and paint because it was fun. There was no comparison to others because we didn't have internet, so no Pinterest Instagram KZbin and such and it was the good time. I'm not talented or gifted in art but i did alright until i got to compare myself with other "artists" when i saw thier works and i felt ashamed that i can never be half as good because i can not have tools that they use, i can't afford them why i would bother continue to make art at all so i stopped drawing or painting for more than decade until i found you...you give me motivation and lesson of no matter how "cheap" the supplies are you still can do art with them because it's not just about tools but "your creativity" you made me want to start doing art again for myself. Thank you for all your informative videos. You are the greatest girl!
