My favorite part was the case of birds eye maple and if you ever seen a piece of furniture made from it is like the shiny way you showed us the pencil case❤️❤️ thanks for your dedication to get these pencils.

Honestly I think even if an art supply is expensive, I feel like the overall design and vibe of them can inspire some sort of confidence and determination in your work, whether it's "these are expensive and I don't want to waste them so I'll take as much time as I need on this piece using these expensive materials" or "the aesthetic of these are one-of-a-kind and working with them is a privilege," etc. Or even role playing some extravagant fine artist using expensive supplies that eases anxiety through the process.

When things are actually of quality I don’t mind dropping a lot of money on things. I’m not shocked since Japan is the same country that has fruit growing down to an exact art form
@ladyinblack33983 жыл бұрын
Japan has some of the finest art supplies besides Europe. They did make back in the 80 some very nice school supplies which were sold in Europe in the gift shops. It was not only cute but also functional. Yes what a contrast. Japan with high end school and art supplies and then there is China with all the low quality plastic junk runining the earth with one-way unrefillable and non recicable supplies.
@DoveJS3 жыл бұрын
@@ladyinblack3398 Several major companies moved their factories to China decades ago to save money. Then when China got rich, because they were now a major supplier for the entire First World, these same companies turned to others in Asia, hunting for more cheap labor to exploit. China is at fault for a lot of the damage, but they aren't the only culprit. It's a global chain of indifference. Also, not every company in Japan produces their own goods... many of them still outsource to China, so Japan isn't entirely guilt free.
@Grigeral3 жыл бұрын
I don't mind paying for quality, but arguably, this is 99% paying for presentation. In what way is the end result going to differ from say, a set of Faber-Castell pencils? It's still graphite at the end of the day. Most of the gushing over them is to do with the wood that confines the lead. If that's your thing then it's perfect, but for me personally, I wouldn't consider these paying for quality in terms of an art product, but it is paying for quality in terms of presentation. It's there to look pretty.

Sounds to me like none of the sellers -- regardless of what they said -- actually had the pencils in stock. Sounds to me like they were all waiting to get an order, then ordering from whatever the higher-up source was, and were all finding out that it was out of stock or way backordered or whatever. I suppose it makes sense that a smaller seller wouldn't tie up whatever the wholesale price is on a set of $150 pencils. Having that, and other similar $$$ items just lying around can put you out of business unless you have a *lot* of capital lying around, which isn't economically smart for a small retailer. But it's still annoying that they'd be all, "Oh, yeah, I totally have this!" and take your money when they don't have it and turns out they can't get it. :/ ETA: I'm massively impressed by the intense *black* you were able to get in the background of the drawing you did. Most graphite can't get that black. Maybe it's an artifact of the video, but it looks damned impressive from here.

Hey guys!! I’m a woodworker and I couldn’t help but geek out about the pencils 🥺👉👈 I can’t afford the pencils but if I could I would get them simply bc they seem cool. So, 10 pencils at $154 gives you $15.4 per pencil. Apparently they are 17.4cm, 88 cents per cm. After breaking the tip of all my pencils I find that, on average, sharpening them to point will shave 0.7cm off the pencil That means (88 cents/cm)*(0.7cm), and each sharpening costs 61 cents. Merely sharpening the 10 pencils costed Rae $6.16 And judging the lenght of the pencil at 16:41... Well...

To each his own. She is excited for the pencils. They are almost art themselves. She is probably proud of getting pencils she has dreamed about. The pinnacle of her desires 😁. Everyone has a passion, and an aspiration to get/have the best, specific crochet needles, paints, wools.. this is their love, their life. Even if you are a connoisseur of beer, experiencing the best makes you feel you can’t get any happier than where you are at right now. Trust me 😁🥰😍

I can easily see why this would be a waste of money for some people but the thought of using pencils with a beautiful history and incredible design is to die for. The fact that they each are different types of wood with different weights is deeply desirable for me. Add to that they apply with a matte look rather than the shiny gunmetal of other pencils is just, yes.

If you end up loving the whole experience, Caran d'Ache puts out special sets of pencils every year or so, each made from a different kind of wood. The sets are also perfumed by a perfume house in France, with each set having its own unique fragrance. Best part is that they're not $15+ a pencil -- the sets of six are about $40-ish, which is still super expensive, but you don't get the polished wood box to go with them, so...there's that. I've had one of the sets (5? 6 maybe?) for a couple years and the scent's still there, even. (Plus, it's Caran d'Ache, and they know how to make a good lead.) edited to add: On a whim, I just checked Amazon, and the Les Maisons sets are there -- the most recent three, at least -- and range between 27 and 32 USD. They did go to just four pencils per container, though. And one of the new ones has a couple of the same woods as this set. :)

I guess the first pencil was rosewood, rosewood is known for having a distinct floral note(like that of a rose). So yes, it is pretty distinguishable.

Definetly a super novelty item more in line for art decoration. I would personally not buy them because I don't think the price ratio to the output is not given. I think the Blackwing pencils, Holbein pencils and Luminance are expensive enough. All good art supplies are expensive for that matter I feel that artists don't get a lot off really good deals even from the biggest art shops in the US. Not when I compare it with the sales that contractors and crafters get at a Home Depot- like shop. By the way Rae. You mentioned the only art store near you is Hobby Lobby so you have the same fate as I in that aspect, and the bad thing about that is that Hobby Lobby discontinued all the true name brand art papers and now only sells their Artists' Touch brand paper. That sucks, cause I really like the Strathmore toned tanned paper which was the main reason for going to the store anyway. Michaels is too expensive. If anyone knows anything about the art materials they sell of Europe at 3 to 4 times the price of Europe. Michaels markup is outrageous. So even if you get to use a 40% coupon I can tell you for sure you are still getting ripped off. So I go to Blick, Jerry's Artarama or Cheap Joes Art Supply. You are still better off even if you order from Jackson's Art Supply instead of Michael's .

If it was me, I'd take the drawing and the pencils and put them in a shadow box on the wall of the art studio. You'd pay $150 for a nice piece of wall art so turn your really nice $150 pencils into wall art.

You know it's expensive when you hear rosewood from India. It's illegal to cut a rosewood tree in India. A trunk of rosewood is like 25 lakhs ( $ 35000)
