Why is nobody talking about the fact Martin has one of the clearest displays of an eating disorder I’ve ever seen on this shown. He also possibly has body dysmorphia, which would explain why he was so shocked about his measurements and his attitude to facing reality.

I find this comment way off tbh. There is literally zero difference between this guy and ALL those women everywhere in the world, yet you think he has body dysmorphia ? I don't think you understand what that actually means. He was a jockey and was led to believe that being underweight is good for you. Culture does this to all women as well and they grow up into it, it's not their personal psychiatric disorder but a societal disorder ! As for eating disorders absolutely. Look at most sports or literally any sport where they have a weigh in and you'll find eating disorders everywhere ! And now more men have eating disorders than ever because these fake and idealised body images affect men as well, so you develop all kinds of food disorders, or you might start taking stereoids or what have you. But this is ALL a cultural problem..

My dude Martin had Anorexia. Fear of fat and carbohydrates which resulted in him cutting out an entire food group. Getting irritated around mealtimes, body dysmorphia and low weight. Enough to get clinically diagnosed with Anorexia nervosa. I hope he‘s better now, male sufferers are even more likely to die from the illness because they don’t get treated properly.

When this episode was recorded, the DSM 5 had not come out, so nobody was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa unless they were under 17.5 BMI, instead of under 18.5 as it is now with the new criteria. I am quite sure that is the only reason several participants on this show were allowed on. Same with binge eating disorder, it was not diagnosed until the DSM 5 came out but at least one participant I remember clearly met what would become the criteria. I am very suspicious of Martin being sick just happening to pass by a bucket as he claimed, and explaining to the camera why he decided to eat as much as he could "to prove a point". I think he just couldn't tolerate the thought of eating so much and so induced vomiting deliberately into that bucket he already knew was there, very common in eating disorder clinics even in people who have never purged in that way before, because suddenly they are being pressured to eat more than they are happy with.

It’s an eating disorder thing
@jbbruti73545 жыл бұрын
It’s just an ed thing. For example, I can eat a serving of mini pretzels for 110 calories but not grapes for 35. Sometimes you find out the calories of something and it just spooks you out of eating it. Or you make a rule “no carbs” and suddenly you live by it. You could give a person two options, 140 calories of bread or 250 calories of chocolate, and if they have a rule against bread but not chocolate there is a good chance they will go for the chocolate. Having an eating disorder is mostly about ritual and pattern and rules, not just micronutrients.

It always shockes me how fast the supersizers eat. Also why doesn't he use his fork properly he uses it like a shovel cramming it in. Proper table manners should be taught to kids to make sure they don't eat too much too quickly! Parents are doing kids no favours not being sensible with children from a young age.

Maybe tensions ran a little high, but I'm actually really impressed that both guys were as polite and patient with the whole thing as they were, considering that both of them were dealing with not having (or severely cutting back on, in Martin's case? i wasn't sure about that) the addictive substances they'd previously relied on having in huge regular doses. Alcohol and cigarettes are both so hard to give up, even when you're not eating things you hate while a camera's stuck in your face. They're tough.

Ana Richardson's segment is SO toxic, it doesn't matter if it's supposed to be ironic humor. She calls eating cake or chips a "crime" and has literally *exact* measurements for the amount of time to work out to burn each calorie off. The program is disgusting, women are learning to develop eating disorder tendencies.

I dont consider weight loss as losing an X amount in X months or weeks. If it is sustained for over an year, then it is considered as a weight loss. It is never about dropping those pounds, it is about attaining a balanced and a healthy lifestyle, and that my friends, takes a lot more time than dropping those pounds.
