I'm 305 pounds, being obese is not fun, it's a miserable life. I know because one time I went to Walmart with my sister and there was staring and whispering behind my back. I'm overweight myself, and all for "body positivity". Where I'd draw the line is being unable to walk, put on my own shoes, or get in and out of bed on my own. By all means feel good about how you look, but surely being able to perform the basic functions of a human being comes first.

It's the sugar and seed oils. Italians eat lots of carbs, olive oils, meats. Which some consider unhealthy, but really they're not. American's food culture is high fructose corn syrup fried in soybean oil. I go to the grocery store and foods you wouldn't typically think to have added sugar, does. Bread, peanut butter, oatmeal, "breakfast" foods that are basically dessert. Bacon, baked beans, canned fruit and soups, sugary yogurts and milks, sauces (like pasta sauce), dressings, crackers, smoothies, and of course, flavored coffee. Don't even consider Starbucks, everything is a sugar bomb.

"If all I had to do was lose weight.." is a statement that negates obesity as an actual disorder. People don't understand that the reasons for being obese are medical ones. If it was so easy to lose weight, obesity would not be a big issue. People are obese for various reasons but it's rarely because they wake up and decide to be 600 lbs. Usually there are deep seeded psychological issues or food addiction or an eating disorder at play. People just assume that all fat people can just change like it is so easy but when you are so obese your body and hormones change making it very difficult to overcome and many would rather just live with it than keep fighting.

I'm sorry but there is no way diane was truly as happy as she claimed. I have been morbidly obese. I wasn't even a third of her size, nor was I immobile, but the psychological damage of my relationship with food and the sheer amount of insecurity, lethargy, and mental health issues you live in when you're obese is undeniable. All this food she ate, this heavily processed non-nutritious food, has been scientifially proven to be linked with depression. That's not even delving into the anxiety and contant avoidance of any form of exercise and all the physical limitations you have. Anybody who has successfully lost weight knows that they don't realise how bad it is mentally until they are not there anymore and can look back on it. Diane never really experienced anything that keeps you mentally health - exercise, whole foods, sunlight, good sleep, good relationships etc. I find it hard to believe that she ever truly knew what it was like to feel good and happy.

When I moved from Germany to Texas, the weight was what shocked me the most. In Germany , even overweight is considered huge. I was bigger than most others while being 20lbs overweight. Then I moved to Texas and I’m one of the smallest people around me. The thing that shocks me the most is the fat children. In Germany, you almost NEVER see a fat child, and if you do it’s an American tourists kid. But here in Texas, so many kids, especially the boys are so big. It hurts my heart seeing them, knowing their parents are setting them up for a life of struggle and health issues.

I found this absolutely horrific to watch. It was like passing the scene of a devastating accident and not wanting to see dead people but not being able to look away either. My background is in psychiatry, but I don't think I have ever seen so much denial in my life. For Diane to think that her weight should just be accepted is nonsense. She must have had severe medical issues. But she just didn't see it as a problem. I think she had given up. The fellow doing competitive eating and being proud of it has just admitted he has no meaning in life apart from eating. Only Tiffany had any motivation to get to a normal weight and I hope she has been successful. But what a tragedy for everyone else.

I used to work for the police here In Australia and I dealt with all of the autopsy reports when there had been a sudden death, which was known as an 83. The thing that stayed with me the most is the pathologist’s description of the deceased before beginning the post mortem. They would describe the appearance of the body ie well nourished female, underweight male, etc. I never want to be (just in case I die unexpectedly) the obese female! It has bothered me enough for years, just that description of a body and apart from gaining 20kg while on cortisone, I have never been overweight in my life. I managed to lose that by myself. Never again, I hated being overweight, it felt awful!!

I observed a bunch of autopsies. When I was 16 I volunteered at our small community hospital. They got to know me very well bc I planned to go to med school. I was allowed to observe some autopsies on my own time. Two were memorable. One guy came in on a plane from an overseas flight and collapsed. He was brought to the ER where he died. There was concern that he had some infectious disease (because of where he had flown in from.) The next was a morbidly obese woman. She was only in her late 30’s when she came in to the ER in full arrest. I got to watch her autopsy. It was the most visually disturbing thing I had ever seen. The pathologist was forced to change his gloves multiple times bc her body fat made his gloves so greasy. There was real concern that he might cut himself with an knife because everything was greasy from adipose. It was nasty. If you want to know what this is like, there is a similar full autopsy on KZbin of an obese female. They don’t blur the images like on “Dr. G.” (Why bother filming then?) This is the real deal. Just search for “Autopsy On An Obese Woman: Obesity Post-Mortem.” (I would post the link but I learned that KZbin deletes posts containing links.) This video will open your eyes. Excess fat will destroy your internal organs. In the case of the autopsy I was present at, her liver was inundated with adipose. She had nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Such a shitty way to die! Warning: The video is really gross. I think of the autopsy I saw every time someone goes on a rant after their PCP urges them to lose weight. No - it’s not fat shaming - it’s saving your life. That’s like complaining when your PCP tells you to quit smoking. No, knucklehead, she’s not picking on you. We’re trying to keep you from dying of emphysema or COPD - another really shitty way to die.

@@ailleananaithnid2566 I have seen the same. We used to describe it as like the custard in a vanilla slice (if you know what that is). That greasy yellowy fat layer. I mean, we all have some fat. But I used to pity any pathologist who had to deal with their bodies I felt second hand shame on their behalf! Imagine being described and having some poor person have to deal with the enormous amount of fat! Just disgusting!!

It is really hard to maintain your weight when you retire from a physical job. My weight was so easy to maintain as a nurse on a really busy ward & then in memory support aged care, but once I finished up I was really surprised by how quickly I started to gain weight simply because my activity level dropped. I imagine being a police officer is the same if you go from a busy cop making sure dumb bogans are behaving to a more sedentary life.

GageyyBoyy Family history in health is often given exaggerated importance. Most health problems, like weight, cancer, etc. are behavior/environmental, not genetic, but people tend not to ignore this, maybe out of fear or guilt. The hardest problems to face are self-inflicted. I work in medicine, and one time a patient with severe COPD, from smoking, was extremely tearful about their diagnosis and hospitalization. The next day, they were upbeat, and mentioned that they remembered that in their early 20s they worked in a factory with strong smells, and THAT must of damaged their lungs (not the subsequent 40 years of hard smoking).

I'm from Houston. We are NO LONGER the fattest city in America! This video was made in the early 2000s. A lot of these restaurants no longer exist (even before COVID). There are still a lot of overweight people here, but it has gotten better. Houston is EXTREMELY spread out; from one side of the city to the other is over an hour (without traffic). And if it's 90 degrees NOW, you can just imagine what our summers are like!

Now I weigh less than I did in highschool though I'm much older I really am happier about myself. I’m sure everyone has heard that obesity renders you more susceptible to the corona virus. It puts you in the higher risk group, along with several other factors. It’s just that this is something each individual has control of. Wishing everyone Good Health for the upcoming future.

Go to ALL YOU CAN EAT buffets at any Golden Corral in San Antonio, Houston, Dallas/ Ft Worth or Corpus Christi on any weekend and you will see what this is all about. Its called GLUTTONY. This video is no joke. I moved to Colorado not long ago and so far havent seen anywhere near the morbid obesity here that I did in Texas! The active outdoor life is much more of a thing here than it ever was in Texas Try being a NURSE in ANY health care facility there and you will see that it really is a problem no matter how often the obese ones desperately stay in denial. I have met Them....lots of them. Try being an EMT trying to load a desperately and emergently ill 600 lb person into a bariatric ambulance after taking them down a flight of stairs. Or try being a surgeon contemplating doing vital emergency surgery on the same patient knowing as he/she does the huge risks involved with a supersized morbidly obese patient....that is, if your OR Suite even has a surgical table large enough to accommodate an individual of this size

That's when they found advanced untreated Diabetes, advancing heart disease & a condition called Myasthenia Gravis. I had to lose the weight or really suffer with high chance of death from heart attack. Today i have lost 43kgs & watch what i eat. Amazed how i can now move around & enjoy exercise for the 1st time in decades. Being fat you will soon 100% arrive at that point you go to hospital!

I'm a born & raised Texan. I have struggled with weight since I was 6 yrs old. I have always had hormonal issues. As a child, my mom didn't believe in wasting food. I was forced to eat everything on my plate. I have always loved food. However, it wasn't until my 30s that I began to understand the importance of nutrition and health. I am now in my late 40s and have lost over 70 lbs and completely changed my diet and I feel better. I have NEVER been comfortable being overweight or obese. I wasn't even comfortable in my own skin when I was at healthy weights. Of course now I would give anything to be those sizes again. At least now I am working towards that. It's difficult because America is the worst with poisonous, toxic & bioengineered foods. I have eliminated that stuff from my diet. It leaves me very little selection, but I would rather have satisfactory health than satisfied taste buds and poor health. Being fat is NOT acceptable for ANYONE. PERIOD. Texans need to stop with "there's nothing wrong with being fat". It's a disgusting mindset.
