You know for sin 20, Steven did the same thing back in SUF in the episode Little Homeschool, where he accepted to fight Jasper is similar to here, so I don't really have a problem with that especially he trying to prove that Amethyst is stronger than him. The only problem that I had with this episode was Garnet and Pearl ignoring Amethyst's feelings and the fact that Garnet was completely absent for the rest of the episode.

I'm not a big fighting game fan, but I've still played a fighting game that had a human-sized wooden doll as an unlockable character. What it did? It was practically the random option, and you had to GUESS based on the intro cutscene which character it actually is (then again, only 1 character held a sword, making it pretty obvious it's them if they got chosen). Worst part? You're not supposed to chose that character unless you're familiar with all combos of all characters, because while almost every character has their combos available as a list in the pause menu, this one doesn't. Still, nice to see that reference (not to mention a bear was also an unlockable in that game, I believe the first one you get in normal mode, you'd get a small dragon if you played the volleyball mode instead)

I'd tweak the plot to make it so that Amethyst is the one to get the fighting idea, and Steven gones along with it, just to please Amethyst, intentionally going easy on her, which would upset Amethyst even more. Also, Pearl *would* notice Amethyst being upset, but wouldn't know what to do, and so, Steven and her talk, which leads to Steven accepting to fight Amethyst.
