Isn't this designed for towing? If you're not towing, you'd probably pull away in 2nd, then straight to 4th, then 5th and 6th. As an ex-truck driver, I drove units with up to 18 gears. You don't use all of them, even when loaded - you just pick the gear depending on the weight of the trailer and the incline (and type of road).

Here's what you do if you buy an F650 or F750. Don't put a pickup bed on it....put a ranch style hauler bed on it, or a flatbed with side mounted tool compartments. Then once you've got an actual versatile bed put on it, have a fifth wheel hitch installed and buy yourself a 20,000 lbs+ triple axle tow hauler to pull behind that big bitch. And typically these 650+ trucks are designed for hotshot, commercial and construction purposes. Like dump trucks, pulling around heavy equipment and plow trucks, hence why the suspension is so insanely beefy and beats the shit out of whoever is driving it on the slightest of bumps. It's geared lower with insanely bottom end torque for the specific reason for towing a big ass trailer all the time. If you wanted something that rode like a Cadillac.....then why didn't you buy a Cadillac and just lift it like 14' and throw 50" tires on it and then you could have the best of both worlds and just have a fugly looking vehicle......that drives & handles nicely?

I agree that it is stupid and impractical, but it is one of those unique vehicles that some people desire. You could say that a $500,000 Lambo is stupid too, it only has two seats and all you can really do with it is drive fast and turn heads. It has zero practicality, but people buy it to show off and to speed. As with this truck it is impractical but some people just like driving big trucks, and they don't get much bigger than this. You could however get more use out of this than an expensive super car.

I don't really care about the truck either way, but just to play devil's advocate I'd like to point out that a lot (not all) of people who roast dudes with big trucks sayong they are compensating or something, are the same dudes who make loud ass cars. Personally I love loud cars but realistically, there's no function to having your car be loud, it just feels badass. Same thing with big trucks, I'd assume people like the feeling of driving such a big vehichle around, maybe it feels safer, or some other reason. Anyway my point is, everyone has their own tastes, so just be respectful because you could very well have an interest that others might think is dumb, but as long as you like it that's all that matters.

What the devil is anyone towing which requires this? I'm not a truck person but I can guess any Super Duty (f250) can do what this can and it's not as complicated. Heck, a 150 can get a haul job done all the while dragging yer boat/trailer to the beach house for the weekend. This and the 650 are very overkill and as I'd imagine, reserved for hauling those concrete pipe segments for underground plumbing. O_o A family of rhinos perhaps?

That's a dump truck cab chassis with a fabbed bed on it. That's what a f650 is for. You can skip most gears in that transmission with no heavy load by the way. In this setup, it is impractical to everyone but a select few(mainly a good truck to get wrapped for a neck breaking rolling advertisement). With a real load on a trailer properly set up it would do much better it rides like crap because it's made to have 10,000 pounds of gravel in a steel bed sitting on the back end. That funny looking hook above the regular hitch is actually called a pintle hitch. They're used in heavy equipment and construction because they're stronger than a regular ball. It's actually a useful truck if you need to haul heavy equipment. Same truck you see as a dump truck, but this one has a custom pickup truck bed.

The only time I ever saw one of these in-person it was being used to drop blasting mats on a construction site. It actually made sense because a crane loaded the mats on and two guys would roll them off the back onto the blasting location. The wheelbase was short enough to make the tight turns necessary, it was tall enough to climb over most obstacles, and it could handle tons of rubber mats. But that's probably the only place this truck wouldn't be stupid.

It's an awesome truck! You know why you bought it, but here's your answers to the obvious: 1) It's a commercial truck, it's supposed to be that high. The pick up bed is still more useful than a flatbed, dump bed, or open bed. 2) Anyone towing a vehicle should own a decent drop hitch. You should know how to adjust the trailer for tongue weight and attitude. 3) It's HOT because it's sunny and 90 degrees outside, and you're 35 wearing jeans and a black jacket trying to jump in a 30ft pickup truck. 4) It has commercial tires because it's better having 4 million miles left on the tread than 4k miles left on a new set of 10 plys 5) It's geared for towing, you dont need 1st without it loaded. 5) There are still less obnoxious people driving these trucks than there are douche's driving lambo's

It certainly has a use but as a daily driver commute vehicle...No. These trucks fill the gap between what pickups can tow and what semis can tow. There are lots of truckers who don't need 18 wheels to get the medium size jobs done but need more than the 1 ton pickup can offer.

So just to start with you have 6,400 pounds of liquid all by it's self. Then you have a minimum of three tanks and pumps, The ridiculous large commercial power washer with all the hoses and accessories and at least a double axle trailer with it's own brake setup. A very conservative estimate for the equipment is 4 tons ( I know it is substantially more than that however) and then add that weight with the liquid that is constantly moving it's weight all around for a low estimate total of 14,400 pounds. Hmmm.... That would be one Bad A** Civic that of course you have setup with an electronic trailer brake controller! Yep, It sounds like a load alright.... Zero to 60 in 5.4 minutes and the sloshing water would be pulling that little car all over the place!
