Love the common sense you use in your everyday driving, Dan. Like your speed, route selection, planning, load checking, etc. You never do stupid and/or foolish things. If everyone followed your example, there would be 80% fewer accidents. And you understand the business side of it, too. Knowing how to manage all aspects of an operation is vital. You got your ducks in a row.

My father drove 36 years for Consolidated Freightways, so I was taught to respect semi trucks...... but I hate to say, the era of the professional truck driver is long over, here on the west coast (I-5), I have witnessed semi trucks doing 80+ mph just feet (sometimes less than 10 feet) from the backend of a vehicle, I just cringe thinking what could happen......... okay, enough of my rant.....

It will be nice when Arkansas gets their part of I 49 done. My wife and I was going to Little Rock one time and we got to the Conway exit and the GPS said to get off at the Conway exit to 64 and we didn't do it and got about two miles down I 40 and the traffic was stopped when we got up to what had stopped the traffic a truck had turned over with a load of cabbage on it it was all over the road. They had a big front end loader out there scooping it up. I told my wife the next time that thing said to get off we was over to do what it said and not think it had got crazy. I have noticed a difference in professional drivers and the ones that do not plan and push the clocks trying to get to a facilities dock hours. Mfgs I believe are part of the problem wanting to get 16 hours of dock time in 8 hours. I used to have to ask and arrange for deliveries to be allowed after the 2pm receiving hours working maintenance and getting at risk spares in on time. I would have to do all the companies receiving and financial procedures before I could release the truck from the dock.

When I had a cattle ranch down in Grapevine, AR I used to go up to Conway, every week, for the auction. I-30 is never good, I'd use US 79 to get down to Texarkana. On the uptick, all of the roads you need to get to Jasper are pretty good from Shreveport. Probably not so much fun with the truck but on a motorcycle the trip from Ft. Smith, south to Texas, is very pleasant. Haha, did you see Toad Suck on your way to Little Rock? What a hoot!

Didn't notice any speed limits displayed through the construction site. In the UK we have a set speed limit in motorway (freeway) usually 50 mph HGV, s are limited to 56mph Max and in some areas they will be directed to stay in the inside lane only no overtaking with speed and traffic cameras in operation 24Hrs. It can be a pain because some sites are 25 miles long. Great vlog.

It’ll be fought by environmental groups & lawsuits. Best bet would be to four lane & bring to Interstate standards of the current road.

If you drive the speed limit in that construction zone for 10 miles, it will take 10 minutes to get through it. But if you absolutely have to drive the hammer lane at 65mph, you'll get through a 10 mile construction zone in 9:14. A whole 46 seconds of savings in 10 miles.
@okay52672 жыл бұрын
Say you drove 500 mile today.... Leave Buffalo at noon going 55mph & you will park at 9pm... OR.... you leave at noon going 65 & park at 7:45.... right? ........... let me look at something different & let’s say half of the 2250 miles a week you drive is at highway speeds going 74 instead of 65... you were parked and relaxing instead of driving for an extra 109 hours that year from driving 9 over. Or 160 hours a year if you go from 55 to 65 Running 1200miles a week at those speeds

See it more and more everyday Dan. Trucks in a big hurry, speeding in a construction zone. It is needless and pointless. You are not saving any time. I agree, I too have to navigate lots of construction zones in and around Chicago, there's always someone in a big hurry, sad, as when we get the snow up here, these are sadly the same guys in the ditch. I'll take it slow and careful and get where I'm going. As a former heavy wrecker driver in a previous life, I have personal experience getting them out, and they always have some story. Yeah, it's their own fault sadly, but sometimes they take us with them, and that's even worse.
