Dan, I'm curious why you went I-40 to Santa Rose and then down, rather than I-30, 20, and 10 into El Paso. OOIDA mileage shows it 65 to 70 miles closer. Fantastic music!

Just an FYI, Kartchner Caverns was discovered back in the early 80’s, then made public in the late 80’s. I only remember this because my dad was the mayor of Benson in the 80’s. The big farm you pass on your way home after the RR tracks? A Kartchner family farm ( big trees lining the north property, black angus cows grazing). I went to HS with a bunch of Kartchners, think my bro took one to Prom early 90’s.

Another little tidbit the interstates also have strait seconds of at least 1 mile every so many miles so airplanes can land in an emergency

Hi Dan. Yes I agree. I love the desert. I was born in Phoenix and I loved in Standfield until I was 9 or 10 that was in 67 then we moved to LA. But I've never forgot Arizona. I'm 63 and I can still close my eyes and smell the dessert a lot of people say you can't smell the dessert..but I disagree early morning it smells beautiful. Stay safe my friend thanks for taking me on your trip. Hi Bailey. Y'all have a great week.

Great to see that desert footage i visited Fort Sumner and Vaughan New Mexico about 12 years ago a lot of history including Billy the Kids grave and museum run by the Sweet family at Fort Sumner I came across a trucker from Utah in a 379 Pete and he had an Experimental Paccar engine under the hood a 6 cylinder about 475 Hp . They were doing tests on them and he told me the were quiet and economical but had no guts. I have always remembered that no substitute for a CAT.

I knew about how highway mile markers worked. The east/west north/south numbering system, but didn’t know about the even/odd 4 digit numbers! That’s actually interesting! Thanks!
@Krieghandt3 жыл бұрын
The US Highway system works the opposite way, which is why I-50 is missing, because US 50 already existed, and they didn't want ppl to get confused. There is quite a bit of interstate history on Wikipedia, just type "wiki I-X" and get ready to go down a rabbit hole :)

I think the guy who used to take people to Juarez was named “Papa Smurf” I remember hearing him over the CB too. “$10 will get you a ride to Juarez and a bucket of ice cold Cerversas”. Lol . I never tried it either, but remember hearing it

swift had me drop our flatbeds off there and they came back with old, bad, flat bald tires and used bad chains and binders . I told my dispatch that i will not drop any more trailers until we get back all of our own equipment. a few weeks later they had us document all our equipment. Any thing missing, they had to pay for new equipment. That stopped almost all of the thrives..

It's been about 15 years since I've been to the El Paso, TX. Petro. There used to be a old guy named Papa Smurf and another guy that you would hear all the time on the radio advertising to go across the border to go shopping and to the whore houses. I heard the same about it being a rough place but I think it had been cleaned up by the time I had started running west. Good video, have a safe trip.
