Love the tip about overwriting and then cutting. Personally in my college essay-writing experience, if I'm under the word limit on an essay by the time I'm done writing it, I need to scrap it and start over again with a new idea! It's much easier to cut fluff than come up with filler.
@JustAnotherLokiStan3 жыл бұрын
This is actually very convenient for me because I write a lot (professionally and for fun) and I literally don't know when to stop, so my first drafts inevitably cross the word limit 😂

Should you be overly creative with your supplemental essays? Like starting with fantasy characters and then going on to explain how they have changed your life. Would it be too creative and give a negative vibe to the admissions officer? .

Currently an Ivy law student who went from a very good but not exclusive state school to Ivy law school. I did have a near perfect gpa as an undergrad. Most students around me wrote term papers with a high school mindset. I killed every paper I wrote because I wrote to engage if not fascinate the professor. Yes, I did have to relate my understanding of the subject matter but I saw my instructors as fellow adults more than authority figures. I wrote *for* them understanding that they were bored sick of reading boring if not sub par papers. I inserted humor, items I felt might personally interest them, takes on current events and I was not afraid to state some personal opinions/editorializing, where appropriate, if I was pretty sure it was fully thought through. I wanted the instructor to enjoy my paper and be entertained by it. Their gratefulness was astounding most of the time. Yes, this influences grades. I did the same in my admission statements and all supplemental essays. Proceed with caution, but perhaps this may be useful to someone.

Hi, can you make a video about how to fill out the awards/activities section on college applications? For awards, they always ask what level of award it is, and I'm wondering if AP Scholar awards are considered national awards. Other people have said they put national level for an AP Scholar with Distinction Award, but there is also a National AP Scholar Award, so how do we list them?
@thereseanchilles74304 жыл бұрын
I listed the AP Scholar award in additional info because I ran out of room for awards but I think it would go under your Awards if you have room. I think it's a national recognition because everyone in the US can qualify? Not sure.
@francesbritton5 жыл бұрын
Hi Brooke, I'm from the UK, where we use extra Us and write realised instead of realized, and maths instead of math. Will this be an issue in essays? My school has the word MATHS in its name, and I can't just swap that, right? Thanks for the informational vid!
@rsncrllvea4 жыл бұрын
No it wont be an issue since thats grammatically corect in the UK. Just like color/colour, just an accent thing
@germangonzales20082 жыл бұрын
yup they will think your are dumb and they will tell all the other college so that none of them accept you also international college your mother will disown you and outerspace will collapse and all past present and future colleges will never ever accept because you wrote realised instead of realized.

Answers to supplemental essays can be boring because so many of the questions are downright stupid. At some point, students lose steam. There are only so many ways to be creative in an essay.

Super tutor how many times should I take the SAT
@davidmorales28595 жыл бұрын
Bleh Comedy tbh you should do it as many times as you can if you think you can get a better score. I took it 4 times
@thearchitect16015 жыл бұрын
It depends on your grade and score. For example, am currently a 11th grader, I all ready took the PSAT twice, in sophomore year. I originally got a 890, then after about 7 mouths of study, and online prep courses, when I took the second time, I got a 1210. I just took the August SAT, like a week ago, am expecting on getting a 1300-1350. Am also planning it taking it a 1 more time this year, and work my will up to 1550plus. So I would personally take the SAT twice, so you can get a super score. And the psat as many as u want.
@lexuhbee5 жыл бұрын
It depends on the schools you’re applying to. If you get above your school’s average admitted SAT score, you only have to take it once. Otherwise, take it again to improve. However, some schools require you to submit all the times that you’ve taken the test (so they would be more critical of someone who took it 4 times and got a 1500 than someone who took it once and got a 1480). So, it’s best to not take it more than two times, and that’s what SuperTutor says, as well.
@froztty35445 жыл бұрын
@@thearchitect1601 care to share your score. im curious
@thearchitect16015 жыл бұрын
Froztty I got my score a few days ago, I got a 1390, the essay score hasn’t come out yet. But am planning on taking it again in May of 2020, so I can get a least a 1450 or higher. My dream school is Cornell, and there SAT AVERAGE range is 1350-1510, with the average being a 1470. I know SAT score aren’t everything, but if me a another student have very similar backgrounds and goals, Cornell will usually pick the kid with the higher score or better GPA, but this very unlikely. There is always a factor that is different from one application to the next. Did u take the SAT, PSAT or ACT yet?
@melanyanguilar56205 жыл бұрын
I have a question about the SAT: so if I’m applying to a college that doesn’t require the SAT essay and another one that does, can I still take the SAT with the essay but I just not send it to the college that doesn’t require it? Idk if that made sense lol
@Zavendea5 жыл бұрын
Yes! You don’t have to send your essay to every school just because you took it. Anyways, you should probably still send your essay (it won’t hurt) as long as the college accepts it (even if it’s not required)
