Something you missed: a single object (item or block) can be placed under the doormat by clicking on the 1 pixel side with them, and retrieved by doing the same with an empty hand or by breaking the door mat. this "single object" can also be a shulker, sack, or backpack from backpack mods that let you use them as shulkers, letting you place an emergency stash under them.
