Suppressor Back Pressure Testing Part 2: 11.5" SBR vs 16" - SilencerCo, B&T, Surefire, Dead Air, KGM

In this video we follow up on our original suppressor back pressure test and ask the question, what happens if we drop down from a 16" barrel length to a 11.5" barrel? We found very interesting results, especially in some of the low back pressure suppressors such as the Huxwrx Ventum, B&T SRBS Ti and SilencerCo Velos. We use the Riflespeed gas controls to determine the proper amount of gas for each suppressor and so that we can create & observe repeatable results. @@SilencerSyndicate I will! I’ve been so torn between Rc3, HuxWrx flow556k, and the B&T. Based on the back pressure, HuxWrx wins, plus it’s almost half the cost and weight of RC3. However it has shorter life span, granted I only shoot about 2k rounds a year. Such good times to be in this market, but they make it tough. Looking to run on Geissele 11.5 super duty and 10.3 DD mk18. Suggestions?

I just made the leap into the suppress world and obviously still waiting. I've been collecting for a while and I have a vast variety of platforms. After a long thought process, I decided to go with the 7.62 Flow Ti. In my mind this is the best can to be used as a cross platform unit. The performance I've seen from this unit here and other sources as Pew Science, made it the best candidate. One of the reasons being the LBP properties which will enable me to use it on typically, already overgassed hosts, without the risk of breaking something or modifications which at times be costly and limits the hosts. I really enjoy your videos and comprehensive presentations. Keep up the great work 👍

To answer your question on which suppressor I’d want: I’d try to find the sweet spot between low back pressure and best sound suppression. Seems you can’t have one suppressor that is best at both, so you have to find one that is acceptably good at both.

Genuinely curious. What is the benefit of low back pressure cans? Is the best solution not just to get an adjustable gas block for all hosts to be able to run in any condition with any suppressor?

Mainly for avoiding modifications. LBP cans like the Huxwrx Flow have almost no back pressure so you don't have to use mitigation (adjustable gas blocks, buffers, springs, etc) such as you do with high back pressure cans. I'm surprised to see the Alaskan at a 5! I was shooting it on my modded piston CZ Bren 2 and was surprised I couldnt reliably get it to lock back every time on the suppresses setting... well now I know why! Ill try my AB warthog 5.56 next time and I bet with the higher back pressure it'll work great on the suppressor setting. Keep the videos like this coming! Love it

Can confirm my Ventum won't run either on "suppressed" settings. It just generates such little additional back pressure. Combined with HUB and removable, self-serviceable core for cleaning and it's a very interesting gem of a suppressor. Just a thicc girl tho! That looks like the B&T 556 SRBS full size, no? I wonder how the compact (also the 556k version) would do with gas. I'd imagine a significant improvement over already great results.

Interested to see what you do for the “sound performance” portion and how it will stack up to PewScience data. When you look at their results the Hux may not be the quietest overall but they’re some of the top performers to the shooter. And in my experience the 7.62 Ventum may be their best sounding all around.

I’m not sure how it sounds to people around me but my ventum sounds great to me as the shooter even compared to more “traditional” cans I have. I have it pretty much living on an X95 where the larger size doesn’t matter as much and the lack of back pressure allows it to run great. It’s honestly very pleasant on that thing.

Forward venting, low back pressure suppressors just seem to be a waste. It’s a silencer. Don’t you want it to maximize noise suppression?! If you need lower back pressure, put on an adjustable gas block (Rifle Speed being the best). You built a rifle with a silencer; why cheap out at that point?
