Alimony Laws In India | Supreme Court's Big Alimony Order For Muslim Women: 'Not Charity, Right'

A divorced Muslim woman can seek alimony from her husband under Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure - the law related to maintenance for wives - the Supreme Court ruled today. The big judgment came as a bench of Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice Augustine George Masih dismissed a Muslim man's petition challenging a direction to pay his wife maintenance after divorce.

Am against to any alimony in any religion. There is a biggest threat to the society if we enforce these alimony laws favoring women, people don't commit to relationships ever. What, if women divorced a men, will he get alimony from women until he gets remarried, no. Then, how can we call men and women are equal ?

@@mohdshariq5814 u misunderstood the judgement so i am clarifying that maintenance under section 125 is payable by the husbnd to the ex wife only until she is not remarried. If she remarries than maintenance is not payable. That is applicable to all women including muslim woman.

The problem is 1. Many Muslim women are forbidden to work . So they are reliant on Husbands. After divorce, no one gives them work 2. There is no evidence of Talak in writing. So to remarry they find it hard to prove their divorce 3. There is increased abandoning of women , as Islam supports many legal marriages upto 4
