Supta Konasana is the twin of Upavishta, and unless you know them well, you are likely to get them confused. They have so much in common. The same wide angle and open air. But despite these outward appearances, they are so very unique.
Supta means “reclined” and the Supta variation is all about the moment when you are lying on your back. That is where you take your breaths, and nowhere else.
To come out, of course, you have to rock up. (What else would you do?) But instead of sitting around, you breeze right through that upright moment, cresting on the inhale, then following the exhale down.
Hold your toes and lean back as you descend! Otherwise, you will slam to the floor. Also, keep the legs straight and push forward through the heels for a softer landing.
And once you land, inhale and lift the heart, then exhale to empty (don’t sigh too loudly) and let the whole thing go . . .
