Could pain in sural be a result of a sciatic nerve impingement in the hip? If so, what can of exercises do you recommend? I have practised quite a few convential core strengthening exercises but nothing seems to help this case. I am also doing the nerve gliding that you demonstrated but that shows limited improvement.

Hi, I was wondering if this can present as more like vibrating/tingling in the Outer ankle and occasional pain? It’s not there constantly but after walking, when my foot is in a certain position etc. It came after a workout followed by a walk in wellies in a very uneven woodland! thanks :)

Some patients describe tingling, Pins and needles or numbness if the nerve is affected.

I am experiencing that as well. It almost feels as though something is moving inside of the outer foot and outer ankle.

Hi James, Very interesting subject and explanation. I have excruciating pain in middle lateral part of calf down to lateral ankle.. sometimes lateral foot. Throbbing, sharp, radiating pain. Very painful at rest and trying to sleep. But when I tap the different areas around ankle there is no reproduction. I have been diagnosed with l5/s1 foraminal stenosis and retrolisthesis. Had decompression in 2022 and now spinal fusion l5/6 +s1. Alot of scar tissue glued to s1 nerve. Helped alot with upper leg pain..but now this lower leg and ankle pain is too much. Does it sound like sural nerve issue or still something to do with my s1? Just your thoughts about would be very much appreciated

I have acute pain when weight bearing on outer underside of heel Could the sural nerve be the cause? If not then any other suggestions would be appreciated . Many thanks. Evelyn

I'm a distance runner and I started feeling a dull pain along the outside of my ankle and next to the achilles tendon whenever I applied pressure to it. I did not feel it while running, except for some tingling in the foot. My athletic trainer says that it is a tight muscle around the nerve, but after i raced a few days ago I feel it more as a pinpoint pain. I'm really scared of it being a stress fracture, should i request an MRI or X-ray?

I tore my plantaris muscle and it irritated this nerve almost 2 months ago now . Now it feels like from the inside of my foot like if you’re putting on a sock and you keep pulling but from the inside of my foot . I’m going to PT . To me feels like I strained or sprained the nerve the way I can move sometimes . I’m open for any advice or anything . I’m a new runner and really would like to run but scared it will aggravate it , but I need to do it to help with my weight .

@@ForeverMPH literally took at step/turn to the right I had a med ball and was about to do a trot not a run and I felt like a pinch . This was early March. I finally started back running last week . So far so good . Ran a mile this morning and this evening . I’m slow as everything so while it’s taxing it’s not like I’m doing world record paces . I did ask my Doc and Pt first prior to running .

I have symptoms very similar to what you describe. (Already 6 months after an ankle sprain). Especially the car driving I recognize. What do you think of compression boots, compression socks and or insoles for this injury?

I would recommend seeking medical advice before attempting treatment. In general this is an condition caused by entrapment or irritation so further compression is unlikely to beneficial.

Thank you for this video. I am experiencing this extreme pain in the outer side of heel whenever my calf muscle is stretched. This pain is soo bad that it leaves a burning sensation under my skin of back side heel. I do feel numbness too all the time compared to my other foot. It’s been more than two weeks and it’s not healing. Can it heal 😢?

Did you find relief? I have exactly the same symptoms as you have described. I had a very acute version a couple of years ago and nerve flossing worked. This time it is significantly worse. I notice my calf muscle is very stiff, so I have started giving it heat and massage and I just started flossing the nerve.

@ yes it’s better now. Same, my calf muscles were too stiff and knees too (I don’t bend knees while doing most exercises and maybe that caused it). After stretching and massage and little strength training it’s much better. I wish you a speedy recovery too!!!!

I'm suffering from 1 month and taking medicine properly but not working Dr doing x-ray giving medicine according to them but I'm traumatized in day and night i want to pull my hair out and mu body because of this pain and I can't sleep anymore my face becomes dull sometimes feels i have to cut my legs with any weapon just because of pain 😭😭😭 Please give me some suggestion

Did you try steroid injections? First, begin with a good doctors and physical therapist. If medicines are not working, get a steroid injection. By the way you're describing, it sounds like a sciatica nerve damage sending shooting pain down the feet.
