That looks like the same reel I use, a Daiwa Tournament Surf QDA and it has braid mainline with a heavier shock leader, so I also use the British Breakaway Tackle Casting Cannon. Works well, but its placement position on the rod is important for best release timing results

After some research these are called "casting triggers". Apparently used a lot in asia and very cheap. I got some other brand from ebay called hyper something and have been using it for a year without any problems. These things really do help cast a mile!

@@Deviliciouslittledevil no? They've been around since forever, they are generic casting triggers that are manufactured in china. breakaway only rebranded it for the US market. @@tsungtsai7789 Breakaway UK before they have the US market as most in UK focus in UKSF, spinning reels are not that popular there they mainly use multipliers either low mount or high mount so this kind of triggers are not in demand or popular there but seriously they would like to use bicycle tire tube as thumb guard,some in asia doesnt use them either,usually good quality finger guard made from joey's skin(baby kangaroo) for spinning reels & the old tire tube for multiplier,i dont see japanese casters using those triggers too,who else can manufactured it other than china,if made in UK,the price would be crazy

@@Deviliciouslittledevil What im saying is the product wasn't developed by breakaway, nor is this thing called a "breakaway cannon". Its a generic casting trigger that was simply rebranded and which they are selling at insane prices. $30 for a trigger is stupid. No one should have to pay that price. Im from china we can get them here for less than $5. Not some copy, literally the exact same thing. How do I know? Because I have both.

You will need a heavy line backer when using these or you will break off your rig on those hard throws.
@Jaak_the_Belgian7 жыл бұрын
That's absolutely true. The shockleader should be 60 to 70 Lbs test when you use a Breakaway Cannon (10Lbs per ounce of casting weight). The cannon facilitates stronger casts, because even a protected finger (with finger-stall or glove) will have the tendency to let go just that little bit too soon.

Got one. Practiced with it on the bank. 12ft. Rod, 50lb. Braid main line, 4,6&8 oz.. stinkers. Was able to get 70 to 80 yard casts regularly. This is great for me, I need to be able to get out to where the stripers and big cats are. I haven't tried casting with 2 to 3oz cut bait on the end of a slip sinker rig, but if I drop my poundage on my braided main line I think I can get 70 - 80 yrd casts with the slip sinker rig. Breakaway cannon is very forgiving on your index finger when casting. I would practice a few casts with it before actually trying to fish with it. It's not hard to use at all. SAFETY FIRST.

$25...I have 3 surf rods. I will improvise. I am thinking of either cut the milk jug and tape a strip on the rod where the index finger hold the line again the rod, or tape it on the index finger of the glove. This will slip and won't cut the index finger. May be the right size of the PVC pipe over the glove index finger will do the trick. Bend the PVC with head gun so it has the curvature and cut it to length, then drill small holes on one end so that it can be stiched to the glove index finger. do the same to other end of the PVC piece but leave the area where the line slip off untouched. This way you can use one glove for all the rods.

breakaway is such a rip off. $20-30 for a piece of plastic. We use this in asia all the time so I know it is cheap. They are actually called "casting triggers". There is a brand on ebay called hypertackle or something which sells the EXACT same thing but for like, half the price. but yea these things work brilliantly you can heave your bait really far without getting finger cuts.

Not all asian casters uses the triggers,it depends on their reels,multiplier or spinning reel

@@nengow i can agree that Breakaway UK is a rip off usually for us here in singapore we simply ignore some of their products but we sure like their bait clips,impact shield when we found out that the same products can be bought from China at a cheap rate & shipping cost we are pissed,there was a forum about the trigger & a lot are arguing about it so far i'm happy with the long distance fishing just by using a good quality finger guard fishing at 160-180m is good enough for me,that is why most will focus to make their snood streamlined using the baitclips or impact shield
