Some great angling in this clip. Inspiring! Can you please share what size weight are you using and how far above the weight is tied above the sandcrabs on a #8-12 mosquito hook?
@BenjieKimFishing4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Matt! I believe I was using a 1/8 oz bullet sinker and it was about 15”-18” above the hook. Keep in mind, the size of the weight should vary based on the water conditions that day. Lighter is better for calm and heavier for rough. I will range from a split shot up to 3/4 oz depending on the day in SoCal. 🤙

So good bro! You did a great job of fishing, and also producing this video. I think you were fishing some of my backyard fishing holes. I have questions about camera/microphone, for making some of my own fishing videos. What cams/mics/tripods do you use? Is that just one go-pro on chest and tripod, + your phone? Do you use a selfie stick? Or some stick for your go pro? How'd you get the underwater shot? What microphone and audio recorder are you using? Please any tips to help me get better audio/video. Thanks
@BenjieKimFishing4 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks Vincent! I use a GoPro hero black 7 mounted on my backpack strap as my primary. It’s pricey but I like the footage compared to a chest mount. You can check it out in the link in this vid description. Not an essential but it’s what I use. I also use a GoPro session with a mini tripod that I’ll set up on the ground or nearby structure when it’s safe to do so. I don’t use any sticks. The underwater shot I used my session. It’s hard when doing it all by myself but I just do the best I can. For external mic I use purple panda lavalier on amazon with a GoPro adapter. Hope that helps!
@BenjieKimFishing4 жыл бұрын
Also, I don’t know what setting u take footage with but consider using super view as it allows a better range for getting the rod and hooksets into view.

@@BenjieKimFishing Thanks boss! I made a note of your comments, and I'll be ordering a cam tonight hopefully. How about a lavelier mic? Is that what you use to get that nice isolated, close mic sound, without wind noise? I hear a "Squid" is a really good mic, what do you think?

when you fish with sand crabs are you doing a slow retrive or letting them sit
@BenjieKimFishing Жыл бұрын
A little bit of both and really depends on conditions and beach. But generally speaking, I will do a slow retrieve. If there's a nice current, I can also cast to the side and let the current move my sand crab in a natural presentation so in that case, I'm technically dead sticking..but my bait is still "moving." hope that helps and tight lines.

Benji, Great video! I see you use very light tackle (4lbs leader). Do you feel that a 10lbs test would affect your bite much? Thanks
@BenjieKimFishing4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! If you are sight fishing Corbina, 10 lb might be on the heavier side but I don't have the experience nor scientific data to prove it as viable or non-viable. While I do know several experienced sight fishermen that use even 2 lb (!!!), I also know equally experienced fishermen that prefer 6 lb, and others that exclusively use 8-15 lb straight braid with a split shot! I guess at the end of the day, everyone should go with what they are confident with and brings them results. Again, this is specific to sight fishing Corbina in 6" of water. Perch, yellowfin croaker, and other socal surf critters don't discriminate line type. With Corbina, regardless of what one believes, the big ones in super skinny water are extremely wary, and without a doubt, presentation is critical.

@bumpedhishead6364 жыл бұрын
What is the advantage of using such light line? Why are you using 4lb instead of 8lb, or even 20 lb?
@BenjieKimFishing4 жыл бұрын
Light line surf fishing is a popular, yet niche style perhaps made most popular by Bill Varney's book Surf Fishing - The Light Line Revolution. While most surf critters (perch, yellowfin croaker, etc) in socal waters are not line shy, there is a fair amount of debate whether Corbina are line shy. I don't believe they are as I know several Corbina legends who fish them on straight braid and a split shot. However, the big Corbina that we hunt in 6" of water are extremely smart and presentation is key. Regardless of line type, the best sight fishing corbina fishermen I personally know use extremely small hooks (size 8 to size 12 mosquito), which logically correlates to smaller line diameter (braid/fluoro/mono). But to reiterate, I don't claim this as the only way to fish for them, it is merely one way to do it, and it happens to be my favorite. Hope that makes sense!
