Just moved to SanCl. Fisherman, but a newbee to this surf stuff. Generally, how far into the water are you standing making a cast, and how deep is it generally where your cast lands?
@BenjieKimFishing
@BenjieKimFishing Жыл бұрын
Hey Mike! Honestly it's hard to even generalize...it just really depends on day, tide, beach location, and tide. For this session, I was not in the water at all as there was a huge drop-off right at the edge. If you watch my previous video, I was at a different beach where I was stomach deep at some spots. As for how deep the water is....I'm looking for variations in structure. So sand to reef/rocks. Sand to eel grass. Flat to a sudden drop off. Sometimes those things are up close and you can cast from shore. Other times you need to work your way out to reach it. Negative tides are my favorite fishing days as those are the days I can walk out onto structure and cast out to places I can't normally reach. I hope that helps. Tight lines.

@@bluguy5827 -- Got turned onto line clips after watching a video about them by Tactical Advisers. Tied on a line clip, clipped on a $7 Kastmaster lure to my spinning outfit for trout, and watched the fresh line snap from a wind knot caused by line twist. The Kastmaster shot into the middle of the lake, never to be seen again. This was never a problem with classic QD swivels.

i saw in a previous video that you like to have carolina rigs for the surf. i had a question about casting with it. i seem to get alot of tangles when im casting carolina rigs and was wondering if there was a tip to make it happen less often
@BenjieKimFishing
@BenjieKimFishing Жыл бұрын
This is a tough one for me to answer with practical suggestions as I don't know how you cast and what your setup looks like. Personally, tangles from casting c-rigs have not been an issue for me. If I'm using a longer leader, I try to watch my line on the back cast, and follow thru cleanly. I don't believe the c-rig is inherently a rig that's easy to tangle on the cast...but that's just me. I've definitely had trouble with tangles when my c-rig is IN the water...the key there is to have the appropriate weight for the current and to always watch your line and keep it taut.

Experience and losing a few lures is a good teacher. But practically speaking - you have to know where your LC is in the water column. You also have to have a general idea of what the structure is where you're casting as well. The angle of my rod tip is dependent on how deep I think I need to swim the LC. So deeper water, rod tip at a 9 o clock. One of my favorite spots is heavy reef and about 3 to 5 feet deep. So my rod tip will be at a 11 to 12 o clock. Whenever I feel my LC bumping into structure, I pop my rod to get the LC to hop over. Hope that makes sense. I used to lose a lot of lures. I still lose some now but its pretty rare.

Thanks Bob! Yes agreed, I love the drag on the Certate. I feel like that's one of the biggest differences with higher end reels. I think I need to work on where I set the drag though. On this day I had it too loose. But I always err on that side seems like. We'll continue working on that tho. Tight lines!

Exactly! I can't say this is truly epic because they were all juvenile. But still rare to get into a jerk bait bite like that from the surf and just so much fun!

What lb test you running ? Is 15 flouro to big for casting lucky crafts
@BenjieKimFishing
@BenjieKimFishing Жыл бұрын
20 lb braid with 15 lb fluoro leader. It's the braid that's gonna impact your cast the most. A 2 to 3 ft leader shouldn't make a big difference for casting distance. So no, imo 15 fluoro leader is not too big. It's what I use. But the braid backing is what matters more. As well as the specs on your rod/reel matching up to the LC110

Hey Jude, I do have a decent amount of footage with Robert from my time up there recently. It was pretty tough conditions so the fishing was tough. I'm thinking he'll be on at least one episode though. He mentioned your name quite a bit during our time together and has nothing but great things to say. Tight lines!

2 to 3 arms length pulls. As long as the connections stays out of the spool, I'm happy.
