Thanks! The jerkbait is just me having fun, but the truth is if you want better quality fish, esp from shore but really any relatively shallow scenario...the light single jig outfishes everything else. Not trying to be contrarian to the most popular hi/lo jigglers out there, but we've seen that borne out over and over again through the years.
@weekendwarriorfishing2 жыл бұрын
@@CookingandFishing I completely agree and I've seen the same pattern over the years with big fish on the single light jig. If I was more patient I'd probably use the single jig all the time lol. @CookingandFishing2 жыл бұрын
Whether it's true is a moot point - how else will you land a fluke from the beach? The important thing is to keep them on wet sand, and move quickly to unhook/measure and get them back in the water asap. Breadcrumbing fish in dry sand, taking 3 minutes to measure a 15" fluke...that's the kind of shit that drives me crazy.

On the appropriate gear - more than enough. Though I'm testing out a new 9fter that absolutely launches 1/4oz + jerk shad lol. Total payload of jig+gulp is around 0.65oz, so there's a bit of weight you're slinging.

@@CookingandFishing Yeah good interesting stuff there with the Jerkbait Fishing as I have just picked up a few of the LC (100DD) Pointers but they weigh slighty more at (5/8oz) and dive to about (7ft) So do you think those (5/8oz) wts are to heavy for this type of out front surf fishing or no?.....Thx again, JD
@CookingandFishing2 жыл бұрын
@@joed2497 It's not about the weight you have to test them to see if they sink/suspend/or float. For out front I prefer a slow to mid floating JB from shore. You don't want it digging into sand all the time, and you don't want it way up over their head. It's a game of ripping/making it dive, and letting it float back up and repeat. How high off the bottom depends on the fluke's mood and water clarity. You have to play around with different baits and different tuning to get each one to work the proper zone. And you need a rod that has a fast tip with a quick recovery to properly impart that slashing action to the bait. It's a fun bait when you get it dialed in but it will never, ever outfish the 6" jerk shad on a jig head lol.

@@CookingandFishing yessir! I actually called all the stores online that showed it’s available and none of them had them in stock. Except one in Canada who only wants in store purchases no shipping. The one on Amazon had 1 left so I had to pull the trigger. Paired it with a 3k certate with 15lb test. it’s probably not as light as your setup but it should be close. I’ll be using 1/4 mostly especially with a rod that can finally cast far haha. @@scalper6922 @Cooking and Fishing I've been waiting for the regular tatula to come back in stock all summer. it just got pushed back again until September. I guess i have to stick with my older model 7'6 shimano teramar, good rod but outdated and i feel the tip is a tad noodley. still manage to catch fluke and kinfish out front, even though its rated 1/2 -1 1/2 oz ..unless i settle for the 7'3....hmmmm
@frrok12 жыл бұрын
I’ve noticed from your video and Marc’s last few videos that your cadence when popping the jig has changed. You are really only doing doing one pop and letting the jig fall on a tight line. Why did you stop the multiple “pops”. I kind of still do 2-3 pops then let it sink on a tight line. Do you also pop it on a semi-slack line? Or a tight line. Having a faster tip really helps.
@CookingandFishing2 жыл бұрын
We've found that the number of pops doesn't really matter, it's controlling the fall that's paramount. I'll still do a random sequence of pops but it depends on the fish's mood etc. And yes a crisp, fast tip with a quick recovery makes this kind of jigging a more more enjoyable.

@@JLTFishing I would look at the Zodias, Expride, Poison Adrena line of Shimano rods for that scenario. The 72m Zodias and Adrena are great mod-fast action rods that will keep treble hooks pinned but remain crisp and responsive. If you need to throw heavier than 1/2 to 3/4oz total weight the 7'6mh Expride B looks amazing on paper - mod fast taper, a little extra length too which is always a bonus from shore/wading. I'm a big fan of Shimano rods - the progression of price to value is very linear and easy to understand. Daiwa rods can be a bit all over the place but that Steez 76MML AGS you see me use in the video is top dog for a longer finesse spinning rod. Higher end than Poison Adrena in the Shimano line, you'd have to go JDM to the Poison Glorious and Ultima. At that $500+ price point other JDM rods become options too. But I think if you're throwing under 5/8oz, maybe 3/4oz in a pinch - the 72M Zodias or Adrena will make you very happy.
@JLTFishing2 жыл бұрын
@@CookingandFishing I’ll be throwing probably more than 3/4oz, so I will stick with the 7’6mh like you mentioned.
