This tutorial looks at the surface backroll transition, explaining the kite and board control required. Because you turn the nose (or leading tip) of the board upwind during this turn, you could also call this a tack.

One thing that is worth noting here: the way that rotation is done, 1st 180 degrees done just by carving, but the 2nd 180 degrees are done via rotating board on it's nose. Perhaps this is just the way the rider does. But doing this as a backroll (just giving a fast spin) seems to lead to a bit different result.

Great video as always! A question, would you say this is good practice to learn basic backrolls?
@kitesurfcollege3 жыл бұрын
Hi SlaqR. The twintip tack is not a great way to learn the beginner backroll. This surface backroll is a transition, the kite control is different to a beginner backroll and it uses far more speed. Here's the beginner backroll tutorial: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJy0gXqbiJZ9arM

Your videos are simply the best ! greetings from Italy. Would you mind doing a tutorial on the barrel roll? (Riding toeside and then doing a backloop with the body) I am not sure about the name

For me the key to making this trick look smooth is to focus on killing all your speed when you lean back into the backroll. Otherwise you'll shoot off to the side with your arms flailing.

Great video as always! A question, would you say this is good practice to learn roll tacks on hydrofoil?
@kitesurfcollege3 жыл бұрын
Definitely. In fact, that's the main reason I'm uploading this now. Learning this twintip tack will help you master the kite control required for most kite foil tacks.

Ohh that looks fun! Been doing jybes, but this seems like it would lose less ground downwind!

Great video, would this be a first progression before a backroll?
@kitesurfcollege3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kyle, I see what you're thinking, but I'd say the beginner backroll is easier than this surface backroll.

This is sooooo smooth when you do it....but sooo ugly when I try ;-) For now I'm focussing on backroll transition which needs more vertical traction.Anyway thanks for the tips, I find this trick quite "elegant" and will definitely work it. Also this sounds a good intro to strapless or foiling transitions maybe. Thanks
