The HSB area works a lot better when S is about 50% and B as well. You'll notice that S and B can't rotate completely. Then use the H and rotate freely. Microsoft Employee.

Could You write if it is possible with the dial to scroll the screen left-right and top-buttom? Is there an option to swipe with finger on top of the dial to scroll in 4 directions of the world? I am asking because I am curious if this small device would be usefull for me while playing RTS games like Warcraft 3 or Age of Empires 3 on Surface Pro 4 or Surface book with the dial and surface pen giving commands on the touchscreen and not using a touchpad. Thanks for the answer.

I think $99 is too high for this functionality. Conceptually, this is another Apple Watch. I would like to see this work with AV non-linear editing software, though.

non-rechargeable gadget in 2016: only microsoft can pull this off
@WindowsCentral7 жыл бұрын
This criticism assumes some things such as poor battery life. Microsoft claims 12 months typical (4-hour daily use), which seems accurate. It's BT 4.0 LE, after all. Changing batteries once a year is hardly a chore especially when so many peripherals in our life are the same. Having to charge/recharge everything with adapters and dongles is the Apple way of life, not necessarily Microsoft's.

@KenHeslip7 жыл бұрын
I prefer a replaceable battery. If the battery dies you don't lose the whole device.
@EspHack7 жыл бұрын
Windows Central I'm not criticizing this, I'm glad they still do this, same as xbox controller and "all-in-one media kb" I bought, they give you the option to use whatever batteries you want, and that's truly remarkable in this sea of sealed up gadgets we have nowadays
@BW0227 жыл бұрын
They have rechargeable batteries. Wireless mice and keyboards also use batteries. As do gaming controllers and other devices. This is a *GOOD* thing. You just use rechargeable AA or AAA batteries also. This means: a) You can still use rechargeable batteries. b) The batteries last an insanely long time. c) If the battery runs out of charge... you can replace it immediately with a spare (either rechargeable or a non-rechargeable). You don't have to wait hours for the device to recharge itself. d) Traveling, you don't need to worry about power, charging stations, power-bricks, etc. e) If the battery ever fails (outright), I'm not out a $99 device, just a $2.50 battery. I have batteries in lots of devices. I have a $19 battery charger (with 4 AAA and 4 AA batteries). Every 6 months or so, a keyboard or mouse runs out of power -- always in the middle of something. I take up a couple of Duracell's (from the shelf), take out the , put the rechargables in the charger overnight, and then switch them out the next morning. Far better than not having the device available while it charges for several hours. Rechargeable batteries are far more flexible than internal rechargeable -- baring really tight on space.

Other companies like Wacom, Fujitsu, and Cintiq also offer similar accessory for closer to $250 so the Surface Dial at $99 is actually a low-cost tool :)

Not worth it! You could do all those faster and more efficiently with your touchpad or touch screen. Absolutely not worth the price even for graphics professionals.
