I remember stumbling upon this as a kid in 2005-ish. We first found the air vent that had a chimney pot randomly sticking out of the ground... imagine our excitement when we found the door way on the bank side 😂. Explored the whole thing with a flip phone flash light. I forget what spooked us while in there but one of the lads literally jumped up out through the entrance like a salmon swimming up stream. Would like to know more about this place. I would also guess who ever dug the second room back filled the floor of the original ice house.

I would have loved to see how deep the ice room went. looking at old photos they were huge. :)

The hollow wall was an air gap, it would naturally insulate the cold inner brick from the outer warmer brick, preventing faster ice melt.

There’s documentation on secret bunkers in the area, they would hold a dozen men armed to the teeth incase of German attacks on teeside. But it doesn’t look like a bunker for men.

Cool video! What camera were you using as you approached the site, the picture looked a bit fuzzy and low quality?

@MineExplorerUK they arnt far from yerby bank. Think it has all been blocked up now. Used to be able to walk through them to get to upleatham. I know some friends would go in them as kids, apparently there are cars in there to.

Yeah I think they are closed up now. Was a massive entrance at upleatham but got closed up. Maybe in the future something will open up 👍👍woukd be cool to know where the drifts were located. I've seen a couple of holes in the woods (errington).. But all blocked up just inside. Might be worth a closer look now whilst the bracken is down. See what the next few days bring haha

@MineExplorerUK I know there used to b a entrance at the top of pontac Rd and turn left on the bottom path of the Woods. Friend dug it out when I was a kid. A friend who's dad was the school headmaster back in the 30s said she would go through them.

I'm gonna do a little research on the place. I do know where 2 entrances are. Maybe need a closer look 🤔😁😁😁😁
