Oh I know it. Even back to the dialog in the movie Hackers. Before jumping into the X-Elite, I would research as multiple issues are now popping up. My deal-breakers, for now, include VPN apps not working, old accessory hardware (e.g. printers) having no ARM drivers and Google Drive not working (not as good using the website), no native app and emulation not being possible. These bumps in the road happened with Apple Silicon, but of course, they are now four years into the game, so they have a distinct advantage. So, if you want ARM, buy a Mac or wait for a few months. If I were a Windows fan, I would wait for the upcoming Intel and AMD ultrabook chips that look equal to or better than the X-Elite in every regard and hopefully have more exciting designs.

I actually got this same model. 64GB of RAM, 15inch. Been loving it so far. Pricey, yeah, but I'm hoping to use this laptop to get some extra video editing done outside my workstation at home (and also, do more color grading and motion gfx, which I read up that I'd need at least 32GBs, 64GBs min to handle serious color work). So far so good in terms of editing performance, while the fans go anywhere between tame to decently loudish (but not insane). This is awesome. My comic script writing software works, and I mostly just use Microsoft apps from there, so pretty good on the app front on my end. The only thing I wish, is that Blackmagic resolve some bugs and gets Resolve 19 out of beta soon. I didn't know about the depth map issue, but I have an issue where switching over to Fusion to work on a clip, the clip just isn't visible in Fusion (I'd have to render out the timeline, place the play head at frame 0, go to Fusion, hit play on the keyboard to get the images to EVENTUALLY show up). As someone who prefers Resolve to be my primary editing software, I'd love for everything to work. At least the software mostly runs well, otherwise.

@SacrificiaLamb.The.Gixxerator Others can chime in, but I think 16GB of RAM is a good start. 8... You'd probably be stretching it, but I think that's the minimum requirements for Premiere? Still, 16 would be better. Resolve I think is recommended to have 16GB as well. But see what others think, and do some more research online when able. Just to be sure the amount of RAM fits for how much you wish to do (on top of cpu/gpu tech you may need, which is important as well). 👍 😊

The SSD was 142 CAD so overall great pricing. This machine was the same value as the M3 MacBook Air which was in the running, but I like to try out the latest toys. Oh man finally an actual review AND it's as good one that covers everything including GPU performance. Almost pre-ordered but very happy i didnt lol thank you

There are a few takeaways here. 1. Finally Windows on arm, or ARM on Windows, has proper OS, hardware and app support. I'll like to see a trip down the memory lane and comparisons of previous attempts (like Surface RT, SP9/X, and now SPSXE). I'll like to see the comparisons. 2. I think the conversation about RAM will gradually change. It already is a talking point in Steam Deck users, and I suspect the moment the GPU and NPU starts to fully utilise (I don't see the GPU and NPU will use their own memory banks, because I think they'll all use the same pool of RAM accessible) all the hardware power available to them, eventually no matter what optimization is done, consumers and manufacturers will arrive at the precipice of 8GB RAM conversation, and maybe even 16GB RAM conversations, for day to day use and even gaming. 3. The pricing from the OEMS will decide how the future lays out for potential buyers. Microsoft's pricing seems to me, really going for the jugular against some non Microsoft competition, so it will be interesting to see what is going to happen on the software front. 4. Intel and AMD, who are the champions and bastions of x86, will need to work very hard. ARM is really eating into their lunch (power per watt). AMD cannot rely on gaming, and Intel cannot rely on being the "old reliable". Both should have seen the serious threat from miles away, but for low end PC and low end pricing ARM will really eat into both Intel and AMD's lunch if the the pricing for specs is great for sub 1000 USD market. 5. Great takeaway, as usual. Like hearing you approach the device on "What's it about, who's its for" vs going spec for spec reading then commentary.
@SomeGadgetGuy3 ай бұрын
1. I'm going to do a comparison against last gen Snapdragons first, but I want to try and get my OLD RT tablet up and running again. 2. It already is. This laptop will assign up to 32GB of RAM from the system pool depending on application. That SHOULD help Resolve edit larger phone files like 8K clips. Resolve still needs a LOT of polish though. 3. It's pricey yeah. I get they want to have a prestige product, and leave plenty of room for their other partners, but it's a tough recommend. It's tight when this was literally the ONLY system offering this much RAM. I have to believe that when MediaTek and AMD also make their ARM options, we'll see system pricing get even more competitive. 4. It's exciting to see Intel HAS been taking this more seriously, and Lunar Lake looks like it'll be REALLY good. We just wouldn't be getting there if Apple hadnt embarrassed Intel first, and if Microsoft hadn't shoved Intel out of the way to work with Qualcomm. That's why real competition is so critical in this space. 5. Glad you enjoyed it. This video has been A LONG time coming 😊

Please, please test battery life with a comparably specced laptop. I've seen other benchmarks and if battery life only just beats Intel and AMD, then I'm not getting one. I'm not comfortable trading price and compatibility for just a little over average battery life.
@SomeGadgetGuy3 ай бұрын
I mean, those are comparable laptops though LOL. That's like 70-80% of the computer market.
@Contredanse3 ай бұрын
To clarify, this is a request for the future. Your coverage of the battery life in this video was fairly short and that's understandable given it's an early overview only. May I request detailed battery life testing against AMD and Intel laptops at all performance profiles, on and off the wall charger? Bonus points if you can show efficiency as well (performance per watt).

Good video. For some reason I think the new LUNAR LAKE from Intel is going to destroy these ELITE chips when they come out later this year. They'll definitely perform much better GPU wise. Great time to be in computers now.
@SomeGadgetGuy3 ай бұрын
I hope so. Intel wouldn't be on this track if Apple and Qualcomm hadn't completely embarrassed them. This is why we need competition. If folks only stan for intel, these things never get better.
@williamcopeland26173 ай бұрын
@@SomeGadgetGuy They only embarrassed them on battery life, not performance. Remember, that MSI with the I9 and 4090 laptop will destroy all others brotha.
@SomeGadgetGuy3 ай бұрын
LOL Sure. Until you unplug that i9 and then what? You can't really separate the embarrassment of "only beat them on battery" from "Intel performance TANKS because the batteries can literally NOT feed the CPU". Ditto Putting a 4090 in a "portable". You have a mobile desktop, not REALLY a laptop.
@williamcopeland26173 ай бұрын
@@SomeGadgetGuy True. However, no one is doing real work unplugged brotha. You know that. Intels Lunar Lake is going to be a beast compared to these Elite CPU's because the GPU is going to be so much more powerful and all programs will work unlike Arm chips.

I already am brotha. I can sit this on my lap, and I'm cutting up 4K video clips, on battery, and the fans are BARELY on, and it's really nice NOT being in my office with my massive workstation sucking all the air out of the room. Might be good after a couple generations when support is decent, the x86 emulation isn't just barely functional, and there's dedicated GPU support. I don't trust microsoft to handle any kind of AI or data collection responsibly given their record so I'm not in the market for newer PCs anyway.

I have the 15", 16GB version that I received yesterday. Initially I had issues with the Windows 11 setup where it was giving me errors with the EULA and would not let me get past. It was initially frustrated and contacted Microsoft Support. They were very quick in responding. They had me do a hard reset (pressing the power button for 20 seconds) and restart the process. It did work. After, they did want me to go to the MS Store and install surface diagnostic tools, but it would not run and it is because of the ARM processor. They included that in their notes :) Now I am trying to find out how to incorporate CoPilot+ into my work like Word and other tasks. But I am LOVING this laptop.

I'm still not SUPER bullish on copilot+, but everything else about this lappy is EXACTLY where I felt Windows needed to go for the last five years. It's quiet, powerful, gets great battery life. We're heading in a MUCH better direction.

I heard that part of the deals behind MS ploughing so much marketing, advertising and deals (pricing and freebies) was that the bootloader is locked to Windows. Is this true? Has anyone managed to partition the drive and put Linux on? If true, we must wait for Qualcomm to strike a deal with MS to allow them to use other OSes. Maybe MS has insisted on an exclusive period. We know Qualcomm and MS have struck these types of deals before, where they prevent other chipmakers from putting Windows on ARM. If true, and this was Apple, then there would be uproar. I suspect creators will not even confirm this and will make excuses if correct. We know they have not mentioned the security issues of MS Pluton, which Qualcomm uses. If this exploit was an Apple problem, there would be many flexes by creators.

( X Elite performance better than Intel Core Ultra 9 185H / Long Battery Life for one day use / 3K OLED 90hz batter than MacBook Air M3 IPS Panel / Super Thin 12.9mm & Light 1.28kg) PS. not really expensive, only cost $1200 (betten than most X86 laptop).
